"Kara" is the twentieth and final episode of the sixth season of Supergirl, and the one-hundred-twenty-sixth and final episode overall. It aired on November 9, 2021.

Synopsis

In the epic series finale, Supergirl is joined by familiar faces from the past to help her stop Lex and Nyxly for good. Meanwhile, Alex and Kelly prepare to walk down the aisle.[src]

Plot

After being mortally wounded, Lillian Luthor tells Lena to fully own her power and dies. Kara Danvers / Supergirl reassures the people of humanity and they reclaim their power, weakening Lex Luthor and Nyxly. The Superfriends, joined by Acrata, Orlando Davis, Mitch, Eliza Danvers, Mon-El, Winn Schott, and Jimmy Olsen, fight Lex, Nyxly, and manifestations of Overgirl, Red Tornado, Metallo, Parasite, the Hell Dragon, and the Nightmare Monster. Lex opens a portal to the Phantom Zone. Since they feed on fear and their supposed victims stand strong, the Phantoms drag Lex and Nyxly in. Days later, the Superfriends attend William Dey's funeral and reestablish the DEO. Mon-El tells Kara that he will no longer be able to return to the past to see her, due to his responsibility with The Legion. Three weeks later, Cat Grant re-buys CatCo and offers Kara a job as her editor-in-chief. Alex Danvers and Kelly Olsen get married, and Brainy decides to stay in the present with Nia. Winn hints that J'onn and M'gann have a son in the future. Cat and Lena convince Kara to accept the job and end her double life by revealing her identity as Supergirl to the world so she can live a more full life as one person.

• Overgirl and Metallo are the only members of the New Reich and two of three antagonists to be resurrected by Lex in the final battle against Supergirl and her team, the others being Red Tornado and Parasite.
• When Supergirl and Overgirl fight in the sky, the leitmotif that played in "Crisis on Earth-X, Part 4" during the pair's fight then can be heard in a different key.
• Brainy notes hubris is a cover for fear, which was Lex's undoing. Lena acknowledges this, having warned Lex in "Phantom Menaces" that it would end him.
• Alex and Eliza reference Helen Slater's previous role as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in the 1984 film Supergirl.
• Excluding a flashback in "Man of Steel", this is the first episode since "Girl of Steel" in which Calista Flockhart (Cat Grant) appears.
• During the vows, Kelly references when Alex held her in "Blind Spots".
• The defeat of Lex Luthor and Nyxly somehow made the 31st century hospitable for artificial intelligence beings like Brainy once again in the current timeline. However, by not returning to the future the Big Brain would be threatened for unknown reasons; strongly inferred to be caused by Querl Dox's distant relative who was responsible for the A.I. plague in a prior timeline.
• When leaving for the future, Brainy confirms that this episode takes place in 2021.
  • This is further supported by Kara saying that she has been Supergirl for six years; presumably covering the time period of late 2015 to late 2021.
• When Kara, James, and Winn reminisce about the past, they mention the events of "Worlds Finest", where Barry Allen/The Flash traveled to Earth-38, informing the trio about the existence of the multiverse.
• When encouraging Kara, Cat uses the quote "Secrecy is the badge of fraud", which she claims is from an old English Lord who she doesn't name, but refers to him in the past tense, implying that he's dead. The quote is actually attributed to a retired English Judge named Sir John Chadwick, who isn't a Lord, and still alive upon the airing of this episode.
  • This is excusable as Cat usually gets things unrelated to her work mixed up; having compared Guardian to Darth Vader, since she never watched Star Wars.

  • It's the first of these episodes to have someone willingly tell the public their secret identity. Although Kara was the second person overall to do so, with Oliver Queen in "Life Sentence" being first.
• In Smallville, which takes place on Earth-167, "Kara" was the title of the second episode of the seventh season, though it is Kara Kent's (Laura Vandervoort) second appearance in the series after "Bizarro", the previous episode.
• Nia plans for her and Brainy to get married.
• Winn says "Easy-peasy, fresh and squeezy" after showing up from the future, referencing his line to Kara in season 1 of Supergirl.
• Kara revealing her identity to the world is a REALLY bad idea, at least legally. Now she can be properly sued for property damage and aggravated assault while acting as Supergirl.
