Akins is the former mayor of Gotham City and the father of Bryan Akins. After the riots incited by Black Mask, Akins was succeeded by Mayor Hartley.

Biography[]

Original multiverse[]

Early life[]

At some point, Akins had a son named Bryan.[1] Prior to 2018, he became the mayor of Gotham City.[2]

The bat's return[]

Akins made an appearance at an event held at the Gotham Art Museum, where the city planned to turn off the Bat-Signal. He listened to Catherine Hamilton-Kane's speech about how Batman had left Gotham for good before going to turn off the signal. Just then, the event was attacked by Alice and her Wonderland gang which ended with the abduction of Crows Security agent Sophie Moore.

In the aftermath, Akins called Commander Jacob Kane to confirm whether they were going ahead with Gotham's Movie in the Park. Indeed going ahead, Kane assured Akins of the event's safety. Alice's possible attack was thwarted by the debut of Batwoman, who also rescued Sophie.[2]

Anti-Monitor Crisis[]

During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, Akins as well as everyone in the multiverse except for the seven Paragons, was killed in an antimatter wave by the Anti-Monitor on December 10, 2019,[3] only to be restored a month later, after the Paragons and the Spectre created a new universe.[4]

Gotham City News (Earth-Prime)

Akins' press conference on Terrier.

At a press conference, Akins tried to quiet the population of Gotham City's worries about the threats of a cyberterrorist, Terrier. However, the transmission was hijacked by Terrier, with Akins' face covered by the hacker's avatar and his credit card number leaked.

Later, Akins was convinced by Sophie that Alice should be her prisoner to interrogate for the location of Mouse.[5]

Akins' son, Bryan, was kidnapped by Mouse in order to bargain the freedom of Alice, though he was eventually rescued by Kate Kane and reunited with his father.[1]

During the bomb crisis on Bennet Ave., Akins ordered that anyone within a 1-mile radius of Bobby Reeves should be evacuated.[6]

The blackout[]

During the riots incited by Black Mask, Akins was in his van when he got wounded by a bullet. Ryan Wilder and Sophie found Akins and got him out of the van. He told them that they cannot let Black Mask take over the city. As Ryan went to go confront Black Mask, Sophie stayed by Akins' side until the paramedics arrived.[7] After this, he was succeeded by Mayor Hartley.[8]
