- "But angels here? I mean... I have so many questions I want to ask them."
- "Good luck with that, luv. They're real cagey types."
- —Zed Martin and John Constantine[src]
Angels are winged celestial beings created by God. They are generally benevolent spirits that live in Heaven and are bound to keep the free will of humans intact as part of a "plan". They also serve as God's messengers and soldiers against the demons of Hell.
Overview[]
Angels can also be exiled or fall from Heaven if their wings get damaged or if they commit any indiscretions. The former makes them tangible and weak in the physical world and can also lead them to cease from existing if they stay in that state for too long. The latter condemns them to Hell, changing their white wings to black. A fallen angel can also have demon like wings, presumably from being in Hell for a long period of time or from being fallen for a long time. It is also possible to clip an angel's wings off as stated by John Constantine, presumably making them mortal. An angel feather acts as a magical artifact, connecting its user to the angel's magic.[1]
History[]
Angels and Archangels were created by God in the beginning of time, before Earth and humanity. They all grew up together in Heaven.
Satan was thought to be God's favorite until he rebelled and corrupted some of his siblings. God cast him out of Heaven, condemning him to rule Hell for all eternity.[2]
In 2014, when the angel Imogen fell, she was found by John Constantine and Zed and Manny aided her, though Imogen attempted to corrupt him, her true identity is revealed as being a fallen angel, leading Manny to tear out her heart.[1]
In 2020, Gabriel did not accept a deal brought to him by Constantine.[3]
