"My tricks. My treat. But I'll give you something good to eat. Today's special: a city, in ashes. The Trickster proudly welcomes you all to the new... disorder."
—Axel Walker as the second Trickster[src]

Axel Walker (born 1990)[1] is a psychotic terrorist and the son of James Jesse and Zoey Clark. After corresponding with Jesse, who was imprisoned at Iron Heights Prison for over 10 years, Axel followed in his father's footsteps and took up the mantle of The Trickster, also known as Trickster II by Central City Picture News.[1]

Early life[]

Trickster family

Axel as a baby with his family.

Axel Walker was born in 1990 to two notorious criminals, James Jesse/Trickster and Zoey Clark/Prank. By the time of his birth, his father was incarcerated, and Zoey raised her son as a single mother under a fake name. Axel thus grew up unaware of his true heritage, yet became fascinated with the Trickster and followed his exploits. At some point in time, James figured out his son's identity and reached out.[1] Prior to 2005, Axel began corresponding via letters with his father, unaware of their relationship. For the following 10 years, they continued to talk and grew close.[2]

In 2015, Axel began acting as a new version of The Trickster. He sent parachute bombs over a park in Central City, but no children were killed thanks to the Flash. He announced via a blog that The Trickster had re-emerged. The Trickster announced in another one, his plans to go bigger than the parachute bombings because he thought that, 'they deserved something much bigger.' He misled the public to believe that he had hidden a giant bomb to destroy the city so both the police and The Flash were distracted.

In the meantime, Axel helped James Jesse escape from prison, with Henry Allen as a hostage. They took him to a safehouse, where the two Tricksters discussed their plans. Asking why he'd been chosen, James revealed that he was Axel's father.

The Tricksters son and father

The Tricksters, father and son, wait for their hostages to transfer all their money to them.

That night, they headed to an event held by Mayor Anthony Bellows, poisoning all of the guests by pretending to be waiters. In doing so, they were able to threaten the guests to electronically transfer all of their money to the two Tricksters. The Flash arrived, though he was given a bomb strapped to his wrist, connected to a speedometer. However, the Flash was able to get rid of it and came back, giving everyone an antidote and stopping James and Axel. Afterwards, the duo was taken by Central City Police Department for incarceration.[2]

Imprisoned in the Iron Heights, Axel was left behind when his father managed to escape in 2016. However, Axel did not give up hope that his father would one day seek him out again for another chance to "trick" Central City.

In 2018, Axel met with another prisoner: Barry Allen himself, who was sentenced for "killing" Clifford DeVoe. In prison Axel tried reaching out to the newcomer, questioning how he could kill DeVoe at all. Eating a pudding that "did not agree with him", he ended up drugged. It was revealed that this was part of an escape plan organized by his mother, who wanted both of them to get away from the crime life. Axel, however, refused her intentions, and exclaimed his desire to maintain his father's pride by pulling off a big crime as the Trickster, convincing his mother to remember her old days as the Prank. The two managed to trap their victims in an acid trap, getting an upper hand over even Vibe and Killer Frost, but were, in the end, defeated by the Elongated Man and sent to prison.[1]

Anti-Monitor Crisis[]

During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, Axel as well as everyone in the multiverse except for the seven Paragons, was killed in an antimatter wave by the Anti-Monitor on December 10, 2019,[3] only to be restored a month later, after the Paragons and the Spectre created a new universe.[4]

New multiverse[]

Axel is labeled "The Trickster" in Cisco's Who's Who? Binder.[5] At some point in the future he would invade Tibet.[6]

Trivia[]

Meta-human wearing Axel Walker's Trickster outfit

A meta-human wearing a suit similar to Axel's.

  • Axel was also referred to as "Trickster II" during his exploits.
  • Axel Walker doesn't have the same surname as any of his parents; his father's surname is "Jesse" while his mother's is "Clark".
    • Given how Axel was raised by his mother, it's possible the fake name Zoey used "Walker" as her last name.
  • Among the dozens of meta-humans that constituted Zoom's army, a meta-human wearing a costume identical to the one worn by Axel was briefly seen in the crowd.[7]
  • Axel presumably remains locked up in Iron Heights, unlike the rest of the villains; due to lacking connections and resources.

Behind the scenes[]

  • In the DC comics, Axel Walker is not James Jesse's son, but a boy who stole all of Jesse's gadgets and shoes and became the new Trickster.
