- "I want to make sure we stay on point, uproot the city’s confidence in the Crows, and let chaos reign."
- —Dodgson to Alice[src]
At first he was extremely idealistic an attached to his role, however, over time, he began to resent Commander Jacob Kane, considering him too soft for the job, thus leading him to join the Wonderland gang becoming second-in-command and lover of its leader Alice eventually being entrusted with the secret that she was actually Jacob's presumed dead daughter Beth.
Mole in Crows Security
Secretly working with Alice, Dodgson began to work as her mole inside of Crows Security. In 2018, the Crows worked on an event at which they were shutting off the Bat-Signal, the Wonderland gang ambushed the event, kidnapping Sophie Moore in the process. Following that, they worked security at the city's Movie in the Park event. Dodgson was assigned to watch from an undeveloped skyscraper by Robinson Park.
Due to this, he allowed Alice and her gang to bring Sophie in, hanging her on a plank of wood off the side of the building, he left the gang to their devices, driving a truck full of explosives to beside the park, before fleeing.
Later, at a briefing, Jacob Kane calls Dodgson a traitor and refers to him as a former Crow turned second-in-command of the Wonderland gang. Jacob goes onto say the duo want to terrorize the citizens of Gotham City by undermining the people actually protecting them (i.e. the Crows) thus, he wants them stopped; dead or alive.
After Alice and her gang took refuge at the former Kane house at 1472 of Norman Drive, Dodgson reported that he couldn't find Alice's knife, and asked how Kate fit into her plan. Alice said that Dodgson was jealous and kissed him, prompting him to reply that all he wanted was for them to stay on point: uprooting the city's confidence in The Crows, and subsequently letting chaos reign. He warned Alice to not let it get personal, to which Alice insisted that it is in fact personal because her own father gave up on her.
Later, Alice sent Dodgon at Mary Hamilton clinic with the order to kill her as she was jealous of her role as Kate's "new sister". Mary managed to defend herself by injuring Dodgson in the leg with a scalpel and locking herself in a closet, then Batwoman intervened knocking down the man.
That night, Batwoman beat him up telling him she wanted to know everything he knew about Alice. Dodgson was left in Batwoman's captivity for over a week, then he developed an infection and was brought to Mary's clinic, where the vigilante asked her to deal with his wound with the maximum discretion.
That evening, while he was handcuffed to the bed and drugged with morphine, Dodgson began hallucinating, calling for his boss and lover Alice. Hearing that, Mary decided to impersonate Alice in an attempt to extort him as part of the latter's villainous plan and prompting him to reveal her that a key component to it was a mysterious figure named "Mouse". Later, Batwoman came back to the clinic asking Mary for Dodgson conditions and after she was made aware of what Mary had discovered, Batwoman plant a subdermal transmitter on Dodgson in order to track him after he returned to Alice.
Ambush at Dusty's Roadside Diner
Dodgson was then let free and went back to the Wonderland gang hideout, sure that nobody had followed him and he simply managed to escape Batwoman. As Alice patched him up, she told him how, "forgetting pain is convenient. Remembering it is agonizing. But recovering the truth is worth the suffering." warning him that if he had told Batwoman anything of value, it would be off with his head. Shortly after though, the vigilante ambushed the rest of her Wonderland Gang, kidnapping Alice.
However Dodgson managed to escape and, following his leader/lover plan, he went to Dusty's Roadside Diner with a handful of men so that, while Mouse drugged Kate to take her to the old Cartwright house and set Alice free, Dodgson engaged Jacob Kane and Sophie Moore in a crossfire outside the club.
After Sophie distracted the Wonderland gang members, Jacob managed to shoot a propane tank making it explode and scattering the criminals in the process. Dodgson then told Jacob that he joined the Crows to make Gotham a better place for all, but instead Jacob divided the city as due to his deeds only the wealthy are safe, despite Jacob being too blind to see that. Dodgson then taunted Jacob by telling how he was also too blind to see his own daughter, prompting Jacob to angrily slam Dodgson to the ground and beat him to a pulp until Sophie pulled him away. Dodgson was subsequently arrested by Crows Security, and sent to Blackgate Penitentiary.
During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, Dodgson as well as everyone in the multiverse except for the seven Paragons, was killed in an antimatter wave by the Anti-Monitor on December 10, 2019, only to be restored a month later, after the Paragons and the Spectre created a new universe.
Assaulting Jacob Kane in Blackgate
Around a year after Dodgson was incarcerated, Commander Jacob Kane was arrested for the alleged murder of his wife, Catherine Hamilton and imprisoned at Blackgate. Seeing it as an opportunity to get his revenge on him, Dodgson ambushed his former commander in the showers, stabbed him with an improvised knife and started a violent fight with him, however, before Dodgson could kill him, Jacob was saved by another inmate, Reggie Harris, who managed to knock Dodgson out.
Dodgson is a serious, gruff, rude and no-nonsense man as well as a pragmatic soldier, albeit disillusioned regarding Gotham's corruption and more than willing to let it fall into ruin. however he is way more connected to reality than Alice, to the point of being the one who remainded her not to be too focused on her vendetta against Jacob Kane since it could affect their plan negatively.
He was once a more honorable and idealistic individual, however he lost faith in both the military and the Crows, growing resentful over Commander Kane due to considering him too soft for protecting Gotham and responsible of having weakened it.
- Peak of human physical condition: As a former member of Crows Security, Dodgson is likely in top physical condition, given most of their agents are ex-Navy SEALs or Green Berets.
- Expert hand-to-hand combatant/Martial artist: As a former member of Crows Security and former second-in-command of the Wonderland gang, Dodgson is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant and martial artist.
- High tolerance for pain: Dodgson has a high tolerance for pain, he was able to keep going after being stabbed in the quadriceps by Mary Hamilton and andure a week of torture.
Behind the scenes
- Given his association with the Wonderland gang, Dodgson's name is a reference to the real name of author Lewis Carroll, Charles Dodgson.
- Also, although he was never called that on-screen, in the credits his full name is revealed to be "Chuck Dodgson", which is usually short for Charles.
