"Woah! What kind of treadmill is that?"
"Cosmic."
Jefferson Jackson and Cisco Ramon[src]

The Cosmic Treadmill[1] is a special type of treadmill that was designed and invented by Cisco Ramon at S.T.A.R. Labs, to withstand Barry Allen's superhuman speed. It's so powerful, that it can withstand speeds above mach two.[2]

History[]

When Barry Allen was starting to have dizzy spells, Cisco Ramon introduced Barry to the treadmill. Cisco told Barry most home treadmills go about 12 mph; he told him this one had been "Cisco-ed". While Barry was running, the team discovered his glucose levels were dropping. Barry fainted and smashed into a padded wall behind the treadmill.[3]

Barry was showing Felicity Smoak his speed and then decided he wanted to show the team how he can run backwards. He met the wall again.[4] After his fight with Blackout, Barry wanted to see how fast he could go and wanted to show Eobard Thawne.[5]

The treadmill was used by Hunter Zolomon (disguised as Jay Garrick) during his physical tests supervised by Caitlin Snow.[6]

When Jefferson Jackson saw the treadmill, he asked Cisco what kind it was and Cisco said it was "Cosmic".[7]

After racing around the city to increase his speed, he hightailed it to S.T.A.R. Labs and hopped on the treadmill, while Harry and Caitlin scored his speed. Harry said that Barry, even moving at mach 2, is still no match for Zoom currently.[2]

When Zoom kidnaps Wally, the Team Flash make a deal to get Wally back, and Zoom's price is Barry's speed. So, Barry wore the Speed Force Draining device and uses the treadmill so that his speed can be extracted. All of his speed is taken and Zoom injects it to himself.[8] Later, Barry manages to regain his speed.[9]

After Barry traveled back in time to fix the timeline, the treadmill was moved into another room in S.T.A.R. Labs called the "speed lab".[10] However, it's unknown when exactly the speed lab was created, as when Barry and Nora West-Allen traveled back in time from 2018 to 2016, it appeared Zoom stole Barry's speed in the room that had housed the treadmill in the previous timeline.[11]
