- "What you judged to be right? You sent the Ring of Power into Mordor, in the hands of a witless halfling!"
- —Denethor[src]
Denethor is a fictional character, a ruler of Men in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings books. In the movie adaptations made by Peter Jackson, he was portrayed by John Noble.
Overview[]
In the movie adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, Denethor was depicted as a confident and angry ruler of men, who was seen scolding another character about betraying their city. The character's portrayal also involved eating chickens, as John Noble grumbled about.
Mick Rory was sitting alone watching The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, specifically the extended edition when the scene showing Denethor was noticed by the rest of the Legends due to Denethor's voice bearing a striking similarity to that of Mallus. After Gideon revealed John Noble as the actor playing Denethor in the movie, Ray Palmer traveled back to New Zealand 1999 disguised as a Lord of the Rings crew member and had Noble portray Denethor as if he was speaking to Nora Darhk. His voice clips were used to emulate Mallus.[1]
