- "Picture the Clark that we met. Focus on what the universe knows he's meant to be."
- "There's only room in this world for one of us."
- —Lois Lane and Superman[src]
Earth-96 was one of the many universes in the original multiverse.
History[]
At some point in the past, a Gotham individual known as the Joker who felt he wasn't covered enough by the Daily Planet, gassed the building in Metropolis which killed at least 48 employees. Eventually, Clark Kent was recruited to help during the Anti-Monitor Crisis.[1]

The universe was destroyed by antimatter during that crisis, while Superman himself was also killed from the effects of the Book of Destiny;[2] however, he and the universe were restored almost as before in a new multiverse; only without the Joker causing the tragedy at the Daily Planet.[3]
