"Episode 3" is the third episode of the second season of Vixen, and the ninth episode overall. It was released on October 28, 2016.

Plot

Eshu launches a fiery attack towards Vixen, but she swiftly evades it and counterattacks with a slashing move. However, Eshu quickly recovers and blasts her out of a window. Utilizing her animal abilities, Vixen manages to land safely. Eshu descends nearby and boasts about possessing two of the Totems. He continues to unleash fire blasts at Vixen, who skillfully dodges the attacks and drops down into a restaurant below. Vixen prioritizes the safety of the guests, instructing them to evacuate. Eshu descends into the restaurant and offers her a peaceful departure if she surrenders the Totem.

Vixen pounces on Eshu, overpowering him with the strength of a boa constrictor. However, Eshu retaliates by blasting her into a nearby pool. Vixen taps into her aquatic powers, assuming the abilities of a fish to remain underwater until Eshu departs. Once he is gone, Vixen emerges from the water.

The following day, Mari meets with Macalester and recounts the events to him. Macalester explains the concept of each Totem harnessing a different yet equal force to maintain balance. Determined to defeat Eshu, Mari demands information that can help her accomplish that. Macalester suggests finding someone who possesses knowledge of magic, and Mari realizes that she knows such a person.

Mari and Macalester embark on a journey to Africa and arrive at a hospital. They find Kuasa there, greatly weakened, and Mari questions her presence. Kuasa points out that Mari abandoned their shared ancestry, but Mari argues that she only distanced herself from a sister who attacked her. Without the power of the Totem, Kuasa feels hollow inside. They inquire about Eshu and his mention of their mother's resemblance to Mari. Kuasa reveals that Eshu is a murderer who led the raid that devastated their village, taking the lives of everyone, including their father.

In a flashback, their mother confronts General Eshu, setting baby Mari down. She manages to incapacitate Eshu with the Totem but sustains severe injuries in the process. As Eshu's men recover, she flees to save Mari, prioritizing her daughter's safety over engaging in a futile battle.

Kuasa explains that Detroit will burn until Eshu possesses both Totems. Mari inquires about a spell to sever Eshu's connection to the Totem, similar to the one Kuasa used against her. Kuasa admits that much of their ancestral knowledge has been lost. Macalester mentions an archive of indigenous lore in the archives, but Kuasa points out that there are three more Totems, with the water Totem being the most effective against fire. She knows its whereabouts and insists on joining forces with them, promising to provide the information they seek.
