"Fadeout"[1] is the tenth and final episode of the eighth season of Arrow, and the one-hundred-seventieth and final episode overall. It aired on January 28, 2020[1].


After eight seasons, and the launch of countless superheroes, the series wraps up the story of the Green Arrow. Emily Bett Rickards returns as Felicity.[1]

  • Stephen Amell and David Ramsey got the ending they wanted for their respective characters.[2]
  • The final scene is a brand new scene Marc Guggenheim came up with after he just finished meditation class one morning at the time the ending had not been written. Guggenheim tweeted that he planned on posting script pages on the night of the finale if the scene is cut from the broadcast airing.[9]
    • Stephen Amell cried when Guggenheim told him about it at the Entertainment Weekly cover shoot. But there were a lot of hurdles to get the scene over.[10]
  • Guggenheim posted a picture to clarify viewers on where the title came from. In it, the fadeout is the area on a longbow where the grip tapers into the risers and limbs of the bow.[11]
  • This is Emily Bett Rickards's first appearance since her departure in "You Have Saved This City".
  • It is the first and only Arrow episode to have a 2-hour run, beginning with a preview of the finale.[12]
  • According to Guggenheim, the last piece of dialogue in the finale is "... tell it to you".[13]
  • James Bamford directed his third and last Arrow finale.
  • This episode will have a TV special airing prior to it, titled Arrow: Hitting the Bullseye.
  • The true version of Laurel Lance will be revealed.
  • Due to scheduling conflicts, Madison McLaughlin was unable to make an appearance.


Preparation began on October 22 to October 30, 2019. The shooting for this episode ran from October 31 and concluded on November 13, 2019.[14]
