"Far From the Tree" is the third episode of the third season of Supergirl, and the forty-fifth episode overall. It aired on October 23, 2017.

Synopsis

Eliza throws Alex and Maggie a wedding shower, which causes Maggie to reach out to her estranged father. Supergirl joins J'onn on a personal mission.

Trivia

• This is the first episode of the series to not feature Chris Wood (Mon-El) and Odette Annable (Samantha Arias) after signing on as series regulars. This is also the first episode of the series to not feature Katie McGrath (Lena Luthor) after being promoted to a series regular.
• In Martian mythology, there were two deities mentioned, Phobos and Deimos. These are the names of the two moons that orbit Mars.
  • Phobos and Deimos are also gods from Greek mythology. They are Ares' children and charioteers, being the gods of fear and dread, respectively.
• This is the first Supergirl episode that does not feature the D.E.O..
• The title of this episode is from the saying "The apple doesn't fall from the tree," which refers to child-and-parent similarities.
• As of this episode, Erica Durance and Izabela Vidovic officially replaced Laura Benanti and Malina Weissman on the "Previously on Supergirl" segment due to recasting.
• Kara references Looney Tunes character Bugs Bunny when she mentions having taken a wrong turn at Albuquerque. Bugs Bunny frequently mentions having mistakenly not made a left turn at the city.
