The Eobard’s Speedster Weapon or the Speed Force rifle is a special kind of anti-speedster weapon that can be used on a speedster to temporarily cut off their connection to the Speed Force, rendering them powerless but only temporary. These weapons are in the form of rifles that can fire a pulse of energy which disables a speedster and stuns them, as well as keeps them from using their speed for a short moment. These weapons were invented by Eobard Thawne sometime in the 22nd century.

Rip Hunter has a number of these weapons kept in the armory of the Waverider. When the Legends began to engage Eobard Thawne, they brought these weapons from the armory and have used them on occasion against the villainous speedster.

History

At some point in the 22nd century, Eobard Thawne invented these weapons, which were soon acquired by Rip Hunter.

When Sara Lance and Martin Stein were kidnapped by the Legion of Doom, Jefferson Jackson went to the Waverider's armory and brought out a case that contained a speedster rifle to use against their unknown speedster enemy. When Eobard Thawne boarded the Waverider, Jax used the weapon to disable him, though he quickly learned that the effect was only temporary, as Thawne quickly recovered his stamina and speed. Amaya Jiwe and Mick Rory laid a trap for Thawne and she used the weapon to stun him. When she saw the effect of the weapon wearing off, Amaya quickly tried to shoot him again but Thawne threw the weapon aside before she could fire another shot.

When the Legends picked up Ray Palmer and Thawne from the Apollo 13 shuttle, they all had speedster weapons ready and aimed for the latter. Using them, the Legends imprisoned Thawne in the brig. Later, Thawne phased out of his cell but was met with Ray, who was waiting for him with a speedster weapon handy. Thawne couldn't help but laugh at the irony as he stated that he was the one who invented them in the first place. Ray kept his weapon on him but let Thawne go as the latter wouldn't have time to search the ship for the fragment of the Spear of Destiny due to the speedster being hunted by something.

When Sara was possessed by Mallus and confronted Wally West with an illusion of his ex-girlfriend, Jesse Wells, Sara saw that Wally wasn't being intimidated. She then used a speedster weapon to negate his speed before rendering Wally unconscious with telekinesis.

• Energy pulse/Speed Force dampening: The weapon fires a force of pure energy that can stun a speedster as well as keep them from accessing the power of the Speed Force and the Negative Speed Force, and keep them from moving as fast as they normally do. However, the effect of the pulse only lasts for a short time.
