"Some wounds are so deep, they never truly heal."
—Gary Green[src]

Gary Green[1] (formerly designated Agent 1066[2]) is a Necrian who is a former agent of the Time Bureau, a member of the Legends, the former assistant and the ex-lover/good friend of John Constantine, the ex-fiancé of Kayla, and the boyfriend of Gideon.

Gary defected from the Bureau after Neron manipulated him into reattaching his severed nipple, which had been cursed following its time in Hell. Motivated by his frustrations that the Legends and the Time Bureau did not treat him equally or with any respect, even after all he did for them, Gary joined Neron willingly, despite Constantine's protests.[3] As no one apart from Constantine (who Neron had kidnapped) was aware of Gary's betrayal, he was able to return to the Bureau and instigate a takeover of the organization, partly in revenge for how he was treated by them.[4] When his nipple was eaten off by Wolfie, Neron made him host of the Fairy Godmother instead.[3]

However, he later felt bad for how he treated the Legends, so he betrayed Neron and was made an official member of the team by Sara Lance. After the Time Bureau was shut down due to the Neron incident, Gary became the apprentice of John Constantine (against the warlock's will due to using a Fairy Godmother wish) and started helping him with his cases. This continued into the Earth-Prime reality, where Gary was taking care of Constantine's affairs in the present while John was on the Waverider.[5]

After the Loomworld incident, Gary's true identity as an alien was revealed, as he unwillingly assisted in the kidnapping of Sara Lance, and later helped with her rescue from Bishop, alongside Mick Rory. He was welcomed back to the Legends alongside Sara after this, now helping the team identify and capture different species of aliens lost in the timeline. After stopping the Zaguron invasion and defeating Bishop, the Legends headed back to the Waverider when another Waverider appeared out of nowhere and destroyed their Waverider.

The team got ready to board the other Waverider and take out the ship's crew, but Nate revealed that his Time courier had no juice left in it, leaving them stranded in 1925. The Legends later learned about Dr. Gwyn Davies, who laid the foundation for all of time travel, and travelled to New York to find him. After gaining Gwyn Davies' help, Gary started catching feelings for Gideon, and started being hunted by "evil Gideon". After defeating their robotic versions, Gary and the Legends retreated, but came back together to save Alun Thomas, and Gary resumed his relationship with Gideon, although they would be arrested by the Time Police for their "crimes" by altering time.

Biography[]

Original multiverse[]

Early life[]

In high school, Gary had excessive acne and braces, consequently being bullied a lot.[6]

Time Bureau agent[]

Between 2012 and 2017, Gary was employed by the Time Bureau. In late 2017, after Julius Caesar was displaced in time, Gary was one of the two agents that were sent to retrieve him. Once they got there, they were knocked over by Mick Rory, who was chasing Caesar. Rory tackled what appeared to be Caesar, and the time agents brought them back to the Time Bureau. However, they quickly realized that Caesar was simply a partier. Gary showed them out, validating their parking.[7]

Gary in Waverider

Gary in the Waverider.

Following that, after the Legends stole the Waverider, Agent Ava Sharpe had Gary follow them to Wisconsin in 1870. They quickly caught on and took Gary as a prisoner aboard their ship, admitting that he had been sent as a spy. When Agent Sharpe checked in with Gary, he attempted to convince her that everything was fine, while in fact, being held at gunpoint by Sara. Sharpe soon came aboard, and, following a brief altercation with the Legends, freed Gary.[2]

Shortly after, Gary was sent to fix an anachronism in Seattle in 2042. He watched as Kuasa used hydrokinesis to stop an A.R.G.U.S. transport vehicle, nearly catching its prisoner, Zari Tomaz. Green sent a distress call to the Time Bureau. The call was intercepted by the Legends, who sought out Gary. They attempted to find out what had happened, but Gary refused to tell them, until Mick intervened and threatened him, so he opened up. He followed them back to the Waverider, staying there until they brought Zari aboard. Having not technically prevented the anachronism, as was Agent Green's initial mission, he scolded them. Soon after, the Time Bureau caught up with the Legends, allowing Gary to transport himself aboard their ship, assisting Agent Sharpe with talking with the Legends.[1]

When Zari had to be put under sedation to heal herself from being coated with volatile time fluid, Gary appeared in a mental simulation that had him transport to the Waverider to warn the Legends about a bomb being planted on their ship. He tried to teleport to the ship but ended up stuck inside the trash compactor. He couldn't warn the team so he used a chrono repeater to make the final hour before the bomb's detonation repeat constantly to give the team the time they needed to save themselves.

When he was found, Mick Rory took the repeater from him and destroyed it as he thought it was the bomb. He explained what happened and found that there were only five minutes left before the bomb exploded and it was their final chance. They found the bomb that was planted by Damien Darhk and Zari took it and isolated herself to save the team and the simulation ended when the bomb was supposed to blow. When Zari woke up and learned the truth, she wondered why Gideon had put Gary in the trash compactor the whole time, to which Gideon replied that she thought it would be funny.[8]

When a fellow employee named McNeil, who Gary didn't like, had been given top honors, Gary called him and told him that he deserved it and that the bureau was lucky to have him. After he hung up, Gary vowed that he would 'come for him'. A moment later, Wally West had sped over to him and took his time courier and pants, leaving him out in the middle of the street. Gary quickly moved to get away and inform Ava Sharpe, who was on a date with Sara Lance. When he got there, he quickly told Ava what happened and also told her that there was a report that Rip's brown trench coat had been stolen from the bureau's vault. He then commented that Ava looked amazing but she told him to back off as she went to alert Sara. However, they came back to find that Sara had left, just as dessert came. Gary said that what she did was harsh and asked if Ava wanted him to have the dessert boxed for her but Ava told him to be quiet.[9] Gary had been at the Time Bureau when a Palmer tech smart watch appeared with a message from Ray Palmer. He had alerted the Waverider and was surprised to see that Ava Sharpe was there with them. He played the message which had Ray tell them that he was a prisoner of Damien and Nora Darhk and to not look for him as they would kill him if they tried.[10]

Constantine Ava and Gary

Gary, Constantine, and Ava.

Gary had gone with Ava Sharpe to New York in order to find John Constantine when Sara Lance had been taken by Mallus and the Death Totem. After going through his file, Gary realized that Constantine was a warlock and told Ava that he himself was a Level 9 warlock but she told him that Dungeons & Dragons didn't count. They found him trying to give a ritual service to a woman that wanted her son to be married. They revealed the situation and Constantine told them that the Death Totem was linked to Mallus as the lost tribe of Zambesi to which it belonged had sided with Mallus during his war against the other five tribes. He revealed that he could get to Sara through Mallus' realm because they had a metaphysical connection, and Ava revealed that she also shared a strong connection with Sara and Gary realized that the both of them had slept with Sara. Constantine tried to bring both himself and Ava into Mallus' realm but the demon blocked him and released a burst that sent all three of them flying.[11]

After they had failed to get to Sara, Gary proposed a different approach. He first told the story of reclaiming a lost weapon in his Dungeons & Dragons quest and Constantine realized that they didn't have to get to Sara but get to the Death Totem. The warlock excitedly kissed Gary and set out to take them to the totem itself which would bring them to the Waverider and to Sara. They succeeded and Gary watched as Constantine tried to subdue Mallus and exorcise him from Sara. However, the demon went and used Astra's voice to weaken his resolve before sending both Gary and Ava flying off to keep them from interfering. After Sara had been saved, Gary went with Constantine back to New York where he got him to become a fellow Dungeons & Dragons player by swearing on a twenty-sided die.

When Ava hadn't appeared at work in days, Gary became worried and went to the Legends to try to find her. He came upon Sara Lance and Ray Palmer and he informed them about Ava and he also learned that she and Sara had broken up, to his disappointment. He brought them to the Time Bureau where they went into her office to find some clue about where she had gone. To his surprise, they learned that Ava's personnel file had been erased. However, they found postcards in the trash that were from her parents and they lived in Fresno. They believed that she might have gone there to try and get over her and Sara's breakup. When they got there, Sara quickly deduced something was wrong and it was revealed that Ava's parents were in fact actors that were hired to be a convincing backstory.[12]

They returned to the Time Bureau and found that Ava had returned though she said that she had taken the time to visit her parents in Fresno, which they knew to be untrue. Sara then stole her time courier and they hacked its history when they found that Ava's first mission had been to Vancouver in 2213, which Gary had informed them was a no-fly zone. He explained that time couriers and the Waverider couldn't fly there and only a Time Bureau director could make that kind of authorization, or the Mother Ship could take them there. He explained that he failed his flight test but Sara told him that she would be flying. They arrived in 2213 and quickly found themselves surrounded in Ava Sharpe look-alikes. They found out that they were clones that were created at the AVA Corporation. Gary was amazed by all the Ava's running around while Sara Lance was horrified.[12]

He followed Sara and Ray to the AVA Corporation where they found that the Ava clones were made from the best genes gathered in the attempt to create the perfect woman. They believed that Ava had made the time a no-fly zone to keep people from finding out the truth about her but when Ava appeared, after tracking the stolen mothership down, she fainted at the sight of the clones. It was then that they realized that Ava had no idea of the truth behind her origin and Gary offered to mind wipe her but Sara told him that she deserved to know the truth. However, the clones found them and declared them trespassers and tried to execute them but they all fought them off, while the one that Gary did try to fight turned out to be the real Ava, who twisted his arm. Back on the Waverider, Gary became depressed after everything that happened and Ray took him aside as he offered to mind wipe him of what he had seen in 2213.[12]

After Mallus was cuddled to death by Beebo, Gary was charged with cleaning up the leftover fur on his own. An encored Damien Darhk ambushed him and stole his Time courier, leaving Gary tied to train tracks. Gary was rescued by the Ava and Sara of 2020, who noticed his future self fizzling out of existence. Though rescued, Gary developed a phobia for trains.[13]

Hunting magical creatures[]

Due to the Legends' latest blunder, Gary teamed up with the warlock Constantine to take down mystical creatures. During this time Gary and Constantine did "a thing" that Gary thought made him lose his virginity. This wasn't the case.

Legends on vacation

Gary visits the Legends.

Gary later approached the Legends dressed as Constantine, before the real Constantine showed up, carrying a dragon's head. The demonologist demanded to know whose idea it was to release Mallus, in which everyone points to Sara. Constantine then reveals that Mallus wasn't the only evil locked away in the time prison.[14]

Legends pull Gary from the unicorn

Legends pull Gary from the unicorn.

Despite the Legends spending months monitoring for magical creatures in addition to the aberrations, nothing else besides the dragon popped up. Gary had returned to the Time Bureau, disappointed. After the final aberration of Paul Revere was corrected, Gary was tasked with bringing the Legends to the Bureau for a celebratory party. Shortly afterwards, he was contacted by Constantine and the Legends to help lure in a unicorn that was at Woodstock. Unknown to Gary, the unicorn was a killer that preferred virgins as prey; he was tricked into believing unicorns loved pomegranates, being told to offer the treat to the creature to lure it in. After seeing the blood on its mouth and its disguise removed, Gary fought against being eaten by the beast as Constantine attempted to send it to hell. Despite the creature letting go, it bit off Gary's nipple in revenge before being sent to hell. Sara offered to have Gideon replace the nipple, but Constantine told Gary to accept the wound as a badge of honor - a symbol of winning against evil. Gary told Ava about the adventure, quite proud of his scar; unintentionally angering Ava that Sara kept the existence of magical creatures attacking the timeline a secret.[15]

Gary was "let down easy" by Constantine, who explained that the dangers of the magical world made having a relationship impossible. However, Gary did agree to water John's plants while he lived on the Waverider; Gary took the time to read up on the books Constantine did not pack, fancying himself an "intern of the dark arts".

Prehistoric jungle

Gary in a prehistoric jungle.

When Hank Heywood demanded proof of magical creatures, Gary showed him the scar he got from the unicorn.[16] Gary helped get Mona Wu hired as the caretaker for the magical creatures that the Time Bureau was keeping in containment. It was a win-win, since Mona was well-versed in legends; Gary on the other hand was happy that he didn't have to keep erasing Mona's memory every time she started asking about the Time Bureau.[17]

He and Nate were temporarily in charge of the bureau while Ava was on a mission with the Legends.[18] Gary and Mona had to work together to recapture Baba Yaga, Chupacabra, and Kaupe. Gary asked Nate for help and with Mona's idea of feeding the critters, the trio managed to knock out the critters and put them back in lockdown.[19] Determined, Gary asked Nate to tell Mona how he feels about her. Gary got excited, believing that Mona liked him and prepared to confess his feelings.[20]

When Charlie and Constantine began altering the timeline since the Woodstock incident, Gary had his memories altered again and again. He ran into Charlie, disguised as himself; being gullible, Gary believed Charlie's story of being himself from the future. Warning his "future self" that the Custodians of the Chronology were rampaging in the Time Bureau to catch a shape-shifter, Gary was told to run interference. During another alteration to the timeline, Gary died; Charlie almost didn't want to change it to save his life. However, the changes were erased and Gary was restored to life.[21]

Gary took it upon himself to take Mike the Spike to his cell. Gary visited Mona in the hospital to fire him even though he didn't want to., but was knocked out by Mona, who put him on her gurney.[22] Upon hearing that Ava was in a magical coma, Gary rushed to her side as support; Sara was busy pulling Ava's soul out of purgatory. Gary's desire to help them allowed a manifestation of himself to appear in purgatory, trying to help them escape through subtle means.[23]

Redemption[]
Gary joins Neron

Gary joins Neron.

During an average day at work, Gary received a call for help from the Waverider sent by Ray Palmer. Despite Ray's insistence to call Constantine, Gary arrived on the time ship to offer his limited magical knowledge. Noticing Ray acting off, Gary began listing off things that could be wrong; he unknowingly correctly guessed that Ray was under demonic possession, which prevented the victim from speaking the demon's name. After dodging a knife attack from Ray's Neron-possessed hand, Gary locked himself into the containment cell as protection; he knew that if Neron forced Ray to kill a loved one, he could take over his body without resistance. However, Ray sadly admitted that while he was fond of Gary, he didn't consider him a loved one, making Gary feel a bit hurt. Neron appeared on a screen, telling Gary that he has not been appreciated by the Legends or his boss; he tells Gary that if he makes a deal with him, as a demon, Neron has to keep his end of the bargain, unlike humans.[3]

Shortly after Ray agrees to give Neron his body in exchange for sparing Nate, Gary exits the cell to find Constantine trying to exorcise Neron again. After being scolded for foolishness, Gary had finally reached his lowest point; Neron offered him back his nipple, which had become filled with demonic power. Gary accepted and went back to the Time Bureau, planning to take it over and finally get the respect he deserved. Confronting Ava in her office, Gary used his demonic nipple to hypnotize her into obeying him; he then conducted "performance reviews" on the rest of the staff, slowly preventing any help from reaching the Legends. After even getting Nora Darhk under his control, Gary was defeated by Mona's new Kaupe alter-ego Wolfie, who bit off his nipple. Neron arrived shortly afterwards with Tabitha, whom become his new Fairy Godmother.[4]

Gary used his wishes to fulfill desires he had longed had, including restoring his nipple; Tabitha nudged him to take revenge on the Legends. But Gary decided to instead try using his wishes to improve their opinion of them, calling Ava, Sara and Nora from the Waverider to attend book club; unintentionally ruining the Legends' plan to stop Neron from filling the Earth with fear to open the gates of hell. After forcing them to read the entire book within a few moments, Gary began talking about it; however, he then wondered how he could make everyone else like him. Sara reminded Gary that he was already considered a Legend; this prompted Gary to name himself the captain of the Waverider, reprogramming Gideon to recognize him as the master of the ship. However, Nora was left behind to care for a wounded Mona; whom Neron used to demonstrate magical creatures were real.

Steel (Gary Green)

Gary in the Steel suit.

Wanting Nate and Mick to join them on the ship, Gary wished for them as well. However, Mick snapped at Gary, calling him an idiot. The other Legends finally admitted that they were a bit annoyed with him for interrupting them during their mission. A hurt Gary told the Legends that he had done nothing but use his wishes to help protect them. Finally giving in to Tabitha's suggestion of revenge, Gary made Ava and Sara dance like crazy, made Mick look like a big baby and made Nate (whom had always been the nicest to him) experience terrible acne and a bad haircut (Gary's teenage years).[6]

Nate finally got through to Gary, telling him that bully others isn't how to get respect; Gary reversed his wishes and Tabitha disappeared shortly afterwards. After being told that Ray's soul was in hell along with Constantine, Gary called for his Fairy Godmother, unaware that Tabitha had passed the mantle/curse on to Nora. Despite the Legends attempting to tell him of this new development, Gary wished for Ray and Constantine to be brought back from hell, sending Nora down to get them.

Legends

Gary joins the Legends.

Gary helped the Legends build Heyworld in order to help make the public aware that their fear of magical creatures was baseless bigotry. Taking the role as MC, Gary helped introduce the magical creatures and attempt to calm the crowd when Tabitha had Mithra attack. After Tabitha was eaten by the dragon and Neron tricked into breaking his deal to allow Ray's soul back, Gary joined everyone in singing a song of hope to generate enough love to revive Nate. Successful in the attempt, Gary left with the other Legends, now an official member of the team.[24]

Anti-Monitor Crisis[]

During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, Gary as well as everyone in the multiverse except for the seven Paragons, was killed in an antimatter wave by the Anti-Monitor on December 10, 2019,[25] only to be restored a month later, after the Paragons and the Spectre created a new universe.[26]

New multiverse[]

Early life[]

In the new multiverse, Gary is an alien who originated on a savage planet where its inhabitants killed and ate their own kind. Gary was traded to Kayla and then sent to Earth to find the "quintessential human". He became amazed by the beauty of Earth and chose to look human to try to make friends.[27]

Encores from Hell[]

Like in the original multiverse, Gary was a member of the Time Bureau who later joined the Legends. Before freeing Nora Darhk (from being his Fairy Godmother), Gary wished to be Constantine's apprentice. Thus Gary began learning the dark arts, while primarily getting stuck smoothing over Constantine's poor social skills when they went on a job.[28]

When called for an exorcism, the demon they were supposed to get rid of turned out to be an acquaintance of Constantine's, who told them Astra was releasing the damned from Hell back to when they died to collect more souls to build her power.[28] Gary wanted to do a transportation spell, but he got it wrong and started walking back to the House of Constantine. John removed the spell and Gary and John entered the house where they would find Charlie after a party and John was enraged and when Charlie asked Gary what was wrong with John, he told him to turn Constantine again. He and Charlie would witness how John would enter the room where he locked the ghost of Natalie Logue.[29] Worried about John, Gary used a spell to open the doors and see what happened to John, but they accidentally freed Natalie. The trio looked for Natalie while they looked at John's past and how he revived Natalie and Gary was kidnapped by Natalie. He and John learned about the Loom of Fate from Charlie, who was actually Clotho, and they worried about John as Astra Logue had made his cancer race.[30]

Gary and Clotho took John to the Waverider for medical attention. Gary and Ray decided to support him even though John did not want help, and they took him to the house and tried with the help of Nora and Pùca to heal John, but all attempts were unsuccessful, and they were scolded by John telling them to get away and Gary still wanted to continue supporting him. John apologized and between the three of them they spoke and Gary began to cry when he heard John that he was going to give him his house when he died, and they saw how John committed suicide and came back to life thanks to Astra and Gary was moved when John kissed him of happiness.[31]

Gary is a train

Gary is turned into a train.

Gary would prepare everything for Ray to propose to Nora and Gary disappeared due to an aberration, but was avoided by Sara and Ava. Gary was preparing the condiments to create a tea to kill Damien Darhk. Gary and the other Legends were sent by Pippa to Mr. Parker's Cul De Sac and he would become a train to overcome their fears and when everyone learned their lesson they returned to the real world and Gary would attend Ray and Nora's wedding.[13]

Gary accompanied the team for a ritual to travel to Hell, without success. Gary did a ritual to go with Ava and Mick to Hell and the ritual was a success. The trio were tricked and captured by Astra Logue. Upon release, Gary and his companions, including Astra, returned to the Waverider.[32]

The Legends stare down Gary Jr.

Gary Jr. makes a mess.

Since the trip to Hell emotionally damaged him, and to cover that he already did it, Gary went to a therapist to sign-off that he needed an emotional-support dog and brought a terrier he saw in Hell aboard the Waverider. Ava Sharpe, the captain since Sara Lance was in a coma, did not approve of the dog, even with a note from the therapist. Matters became worse since the dog was not "ship-trained", forcing Gary to clean behind him.

To make Sara feel better after she awakened and was blind, Gary brought the dog with him for her to hold, but Sara quickly panicked and ran away from him and Gary Junior. It was soon revealed that the dog was the hellhound named Marchosias and it was plotting to have Sara kill the team. Ultimately, Marchosias was returned to Hell.

Gary Jr

As punishment for the unsanctioned pet, Gary had to explore the septic system of the ship for the three rings of the Loom of Fate. However, Gary only learned not to get a pet from Hell, because he used a time courier to go to a carnie to get Gary Jr. II.[33]

Gary electrocuted

Gary is electrocuted.

Gary went back and forth from John Constantine's house to the Waverider with as many spell books that he could carry as the Legends researched how to become powerful enough to work the Loom because only gods had enough fortitude. While the others went to drink from the Chalice of Dionysus,[34] Gary continued to care for his rabbit. Suddenly, Gideon screamed in distress as the ship was commandeered by the Fates, Astra Logue included.

Loom of Fate in Gary's hand

Gary holding the rings.

While trying to fix Gideon, Gary was extremely electrocuted, causing him to hallucinate that Gideon had materialized and was helping him to hide the rings from the intruders, but he soon learned of his mistake and was captured. Gary quickly performed a vanishing spell on the rings; Astra was assigned to torture him for the prize. Gary talked to Astra and had her talk to him about Natalie Logue and the good times Astra must have had with her mother to make her want to resurrect her so badly. When Atropos saw that Gary was still alive, she berated Astra before killing her. Using a time courier, Clotho appeared on the ship, so Gary handed the rings to her for safety. He was then killed by Atropos.[35]

Loomworld[]

Every day Gary told people that the world was not right, but people saw him as a protester without proof; Gary knew what others did not, that Loomworld was not as reality should be. One day, Mona Wu came to him and invited him to her house to watch Fate+ with her. They saw that a crossover was occurring between the shows of Clotho Productions and the characters were demonstrating free will and acting differently after a ghost possesssed Zari on Ultimate Buds.

Mona and Gary go to Clotho Productions with a wheel cart of mush and threaten security guard Lalo with the wrath of the Fates if he did not let them pass to enter the writers' room. There, they saw that computers wrote the scripts of the various shows; Mona, being a writer, felt that she could write things better, but Clotho arrived, with a sonic scream that blasted the two. Clotho explained to the pair that she created the shows to keep the Legends alive in the new world, since her sisters did not want them around to interfere. Clotho stated that she even tried to pacify them by giving them shows like the lives they wanted to live. Gary listened as Clotho and Mona debated whether Clotho would allow the Legends to live if they rebelled against their scripts. Ultimately, each show was cancelled; Mona and Gary went to find their friends.[36]

Gary and Mona in Loomworld

Gary and Mona in Loomworld.

Gary and Mona found a group of the Legends searching for the Waverider; after they told Gary about what they sought, he procured a garbage truck and took them to the trash yard. They found the ship among the garbage and quickly left; the ship was not seen again for four months. Gary, Mona, Lita, and Mick Rory boarded the vessel and tried to get Charlie to understand the benefits of free will. Ultimately, Loomworld was ended when Gideon's control of the Fatewatch was severed. Gary joined the others as they celebrated at The Smell concert, but didn't notice as Sara Lance disappeared.[37]

Abduction of Sara[]

Secrets revealed[]

Gary emerged from his chrysalis at John Constantine's house in his true form and boarded the ship. He saw that his fiance Kayla had already put Sara Lance in a cryochamber, so he programmed the refrigerator to deactivate with Sara's hand print. With his mission to find the "quintessential human" complete, Gary and Kayla fly Kayla's spaceship toward the planet of the space-lord who hired Kayla. Suddenly, Spartacus approached Kayla. Since he was captured for Kayla to eat anyway, Gary did not stop her from eating the human. Kayla then told Gary to check the other cryochambers for escapees.

As Gary looked at Sara's cryochamber, Sara in a threatening stance pointed a pipe at him. Gary raised his arms in surrender; then, he realized that she did not recognize him, causing him to put on his eyeglasses to appear in his human form.

Sara and Gary pilot the alien ship

Gary and Sara pilot Kayla's spaceship.

Gary explained his past to Sara but he felt so bad for observing her and the Legends for so long that he told her that she could kill him; Sara was only interested in returning to Ava with Gary driving the ship to do it. Sara instructed Gary to open a wormhole to the Temporal zone so they can find the Waverider. As Gary piloted the ship and opened the wormhole, Sara fought Kayla who wanted her back in her cryochamber. Suddenly, Gary saw cryochambers going pass the ship into the wormhole. However, the wormhole closed before Kayla's spaceship could enter,[38] as it had depleted its fuel.[27]

The ship crash-landed on the planet of the warlord who hired Gary and Kayla, but he knew nothing about it; Sara was insistent on exploring, but Gary explained that the atmosphere could be deadly. He suggested that they send a beacon for help and could play with the cards he had of historical human women, that included Amelia Earhart. Sara looked outside and saw a dog walking, convincing her that the air was safe. Gary remembered his experience with Marchosias, so he, as usual, was hesitant. Gary and Sara follow the dog until it goes to its owner, Amelia Earhart.

Gary and Sara have dinner with the woman and discuss how Amelia came to the planet. Sara offers her passage back to Earth after they refuel the spaceship. Amelia begins to glitch and repeats her words as she speaks; Gary watches as Amelia attacks Sara and poisons her. Gary hits Amelia with a chair to break her grip on Sara's throat.

The two run outside to escape Amelia but Sara is too sick and the two stop. Suddenly, flashlights appear in the distance; they do not know if friend or foe approaches.[27] Sara convinces Gary to defend her against whatever is coming. Gary transforms into his alien form and eats the foes as they try to capture him and Sara. The helmet falls off one of the foes; it is a clone of Ava Sharpe. Gary screams in horror as he realizes that he was eating clones of his former boss; but then, Gary thinks about how hungry he was for the taste of human and how good Ava tasted. Gary had not noticed that Sara was gone.[39]

Saving Sara[]

Gary would spend a lot of time looking for Sara until he managed to get in through the drain and entered Sara's room, but Sara told him that he will come out on his own and ordered him to steal the battery cells to put her in the ship and Gary promised to fulfill the mission. While taking out the battery, Kayla, who was also on the planet, alerted that there was an intruder and Gary was captured by the clones, but would break free after the force field was removed and Gary would save an Ava in the process. He met Nurse Ava and another Ava and the 3 Avas praised Gary as a great servant and a hero and agreed to help him save Sara.[40]

Sara reunited with the Legends

Legends reunited.

Gary and the Avas managed to find Mick and helped him enter Bishop's lair to find Sara and escape the planet. He, Mick, and the Avas used the battery cells to power the ship. After Sara blew up Bishop's lair, Gary reunited with Mick and Sara after saying goodbye to the Avas, and they put on respirators to breathe the storm. He, Mick and Sara were walking in the forest to get to the ship quickly, but they began to hear sounds, and they were Zagurons, and they had to face the creatures and were saved by Kayla, who gave them time to escape. Gary, Sara and Mick made it to the ship on time and started it up and managed to escape from Pliny X19. The trio went back to the Waverider and Gary wanted to see Sara and Ava's romantic reunion, but Mick wouldn't let him. Gary, Ava, Sara, and Mick caught up with the others and celebrated at the bar after Sara proposed to Ava.[41]

Runaway aliens[]

Alien consultant[]

Upon reintegration, Gary became an alien consultant for the team. When helping Spooner to arrange his things, Gary was interrogated by John, who wanted to know the location of the Fountain of Imperium, but Gary, knowing that it was dangerous, lied to John telling him that he does not know its whereabouts. Gary and John joined the others for their mission in Fist City, and he kept avoiding John's questions about the fountain. After learning about a Haverack, Gary and the Legends hid in the bar to protect themselves and Gary revealed to John everything about the fountain, which made him angry and between the two they argued attracting the Haverack, but the Haverack was defeated thanks to Astra. He finally agreed and gave John the map to find the Fountain of the Imperium.[42]

Zari Tomaz is reunited with the Legends again

Gary celebrates Zari's return.

Gary explained to the Legends about Gus-Gus and his abilities. He later helped Sara and Lita stop Mick from killing Niko, but was shocked and concerned to discover that Mick and Kayla had sex. He was at the party celebrating Zari's return, but interrupted to announce that when Mick and Kayla had sex, she inserted alien eggs into him.[43]

Legends after the fight with Gus

Gary and the Legends after the fight with Gus.

Gary helped the Legends take care of Gus, and they found out that the little alien baby was growing up. After Gus quickly became an adult, Gary and the others tried to stop him, but couldn't until Mick along with Behrad and Zari managed to defeat Gus.[44]

Gary helps Ava

Gary helping Ava.

Seeing how desperate Ava was about her wedding to Sara, Gary joined her to help her choose her wedding dress and they spent time together. They were interrupted when they realized that Sara, Mick, Astra, and Spooner were in a game of bowling to save the earth. After the Legends won, Gary and the others traveled to Galaxy Lanes to celebrate the victory.[45]

Reunion with Kayla[]

Upon returning to the ship, Gary and the team were trapped in the Waverider, so Gary, to entertain the Legends, showed the Beast/Slayers board game. When explaining the rules, Gary volunteered as the narrator, but watched as John used his magic to make the game real. While the Legends played, Gary and Mick received an intruder who turned out to be Kayla, who managed to survive Pliny X19, but Gary didn't trust her and tried to warn Mick, but he ignored her. Gary was attacked by a tentacle from Kayla, but managed to break free and rejoined the others to help Mick with his pregnancy.[46]

Fighting Bishop[]

Galixipost

Gary and the Legends try to trick Kayla.

When the others were dealing with Bishop, Gary helped Mick with his pregnancy effects and was excited to learn that he could be the best man. Gary and the Legends watched as Bishop helped deliver Mick's babies.[47] Upon learning that John was recruited by Bishop, Gary and the others tried to stop him, but they discovered it was a hologram and watched as John and Bishop stole the ship. With no other options, Gary offered to use Galixipost to snap a photo of Mick with "fake eggs" to get Kayla's attention. After convincing Kayla to help, Gary and the team returned to the Waverider to save the eggs.[48]

The Legends fight the Zagurons

The Legends about to fight the Zagurons.

Gary and the Legends were still processing John's death and later saw several Zaguron eggs fall in Texas in 1925. After Sara and Ava decided to do the wedding now, Gary and the Legends set up the wedding. Gary encouraged Ava to prepare and was excited to accept that he would walk Ava down the aisle. The wedding was interrupted by Bishop, who freed all the Zagurons, so Gary and the Legends tried to fight them, but they entered the house because there were so many Zagurons. During the battle, Gary and the others obtained magic thanks to Spooner, and the entire team together managed to finally defeat the Zagurons. Gary witnessed how the eggs hatched and devoured Bishop, and later commented that necrian babies are born very hungry. The next day, Gary and the Legends prepared to go to the Waverider, but were trapped in 1925 due to the Waverider being destroyed by another Waverider.[49]

Stuck in the 1920s[]

The Legends try to escape 1925

The Legends try to get out of 1925.

Due to the Waverider being destroyed, Gary and the Legends tried to use Nate's time courier to catch whoever was responsible for destroying the ship, but failed as the time courier had no power. Gary and Ava remembered a bureau protocol and had to find the bureau's safe in the sheriff's office to get a time courier. The Legends pretended to be a traveling circus to avoid suspicion. Gary used his magic, but accidentally almost burned his hands.

Legends in Constantine's Pocket Dimension

Gary and the Legends enter Constantine's pocket dimension.

Upon obtaining the safe, the team realized that Mick had stolen the time courier. After Astra tries to fix the ship, the Legends were to be captured by J. Edgar Hoover, but they managed to escape into John's pocket dimension. Gary explained to the team about the pocket dimension. Later, the Legends went out and stole Hoover's car to travel to New York to find Dr. Gwyn Davies, who was their only hope to return to his time. After Sara, Ava, Nate, and Behrad faked a robbery calling themselves the Bullet Blondes, Gary drove the car to escape until Hoover intercepted them, but they accidentally killed Hoover. To avoid being guilty, Gary turned into a Necrian to devour Hoover.[50]

The Legends and Al Capone's men against J

Gary and the Legends encounter a J. Edgar Hoover robot.

Gary cast a spell on a bottle so that Nate would take it and have the appearance of Hoover. The Legends managed to get on the train, but Sara and Ava stayed in the pocket dimension with Zari to rest. Because Nate was pretending to be Hoover, Gary and Behrad helped their friend by saying they were his teammates. When Nate was forced to torture the driver to find out if he works for Al Capone, Gary and Behrad convinced him not to act like Hoover. Because Nate went to confront Al Capone's gang, Gary and Behrad asked Sara, Ava, and Zari for help. The Legends managed to avoid a fight, but to everyone's surprise, Hoover was still alive and attacked the Legends until the team realized that the living Hoover was actually an robot. When the robot exploded, the Legends left in the real Hoover's car to try to get to New York.[51]

Zari, Nate and Gary

Gary, Zari, and Nate at Eddie's club.

Gary and the Legends made it to Chicago, but first they had to disguise themselves to avoid attracting attention. As they drove through Chicago, Gary and the team entered a club, where they met Eddie. Gary realized that Nate may have had problems with the original Zari, so he tried to help him to have a way of being okay with Zari. The Legends saw that Eddie had been beaten up by thugs, which caused his club to close.

To make up for their mistake, the Legends used the pocket dimension as a temporary club to get Eddie's club to reopen. Gary tried to flirt with Zari. Gary kept giving Nate advice on how to rekindle his relationship with OG Zari, but Nate rejected his advice. Gary and Nate took it upon themselves to keep watch until Hoover's robot and the thugs showed up. Gary and Nate fought together and beat the bullies. Nate apologized to Gary and accepted his advice. On the train to go to New York, Gary was happy that they would soon travel back in time and had the key to the pocket dimension to take out the Legends when they arrive.[52]

Upon arriving in New York, Gary used the key to bring out the Legends to find Gwyn Davies. Gary tried to support Nate in talking to Zari. The Legends investigated Hoover's robot to find out what his goal is. For entertainment, the team ate food from the city, but fled due to Sara being shot. Gary and Sara found Gwyn, whom they mistook for a version of Mick or Martin Stein. Gary and Sara searched for the blueprints to use Davies's time machine.

The Legends manage to travel through time again

Gary and the Legends travel to a different time.

Gary met Thomas Edison, and he pretended to be a scientist. Gary accidentally made Edison shut down Gwyn's job. The Legends infiltrated Gwyn's house to use the time machine, but Sara accidentally erased Gary and Ava from history until Gwyn managed to restore everything. The team was going to travel back in time, but they were saved by Gideon, who explained everything that happened. With everything ready, the Legends and Gwyn used the time machine to return to 2021, but they traveled to a different time.[53]

Hunted by "evil" Gideon[]

Relationship with Gideon[]

Not knowing what to do, the Legends parted ways to look for useful things to rest. Gary and Gideon got food and tried to give Nate more love advice, but he rejected their advice. Gary and Gideon talked about how to behave like humans.

Gideon and Gary talk about their human experience

Gary and Gideon flirt.

When Gideon asked if they could have sex, Gary was surprised, but agreed. After intercourse, Gary and Gideon talked about this fun human experience, and they both agreed to keep trying to be human. Gary and the Legends watched as Zari, Behrad, and Gwyn returned, as they had discovered that they are in Chernobyl, 1986, minutes before the explosion, so they used the time machine to try to return to 2021 again, but when they traveled in the time, they took a guy in a toilet.[54]

The Legends see Bishop

The Legends discover Bishop.

The Legends traveled to another time, but discovered that the guy in the toilet was actually Bishop. The team went to Pocket Dimension to interrogate him, but discovered that an evil Gideon was chasing them. Gary and the team were glad that Nate and Zari were living together in the totem. He was excited when Nate gave him permission to wear his helmet.

While the Legends were looking for parts to upgrade the machine, Gary helped Gwyn Davies repair the machine. The team went to McDougle Jemison Factory to celebrate, but they were found by the evil Gideon and a group of soldiers, so they had to escape, but Bishop sacrificed himself for everyone so that the team could travel in the machine.[55]

The Legends chase Gary

Gary is chased by the team.

The Legends were sent by Gideon to the pocket dimension, where they decided to rest. Gary went to the kitchen to talk to Gideon about the current situation and motivated her to try to take them back to 2022. Due to the heat of Hell, Gary and Gideon rushed upstairs to have sex and were discovered by the rest of the room. team, who revealed that they were being recorded in a reality show. Gary and Gideon talked about their love, but Gideon left because her courtship with Gary was cutting her off, so due to Harris Ledes manipulation, Gideon broke up with Gary, which made him sad, and he started following Gary to Gideon, who made the Legends fight each other. At lunchtime, the Legends started arguing, which led to Gary eating the neural navigational system out of anguish, but he was chased by all the Legends, who wanted to kill him.

Behrad reveals his feelings to the Legends

The Legends are calmed down by Behrad.

The Legends were going to kill each other until Behrad interrupted to reveal his feelings for Astra and how he felt on a daily basis trying to control everyone, which calmed the team down, and caused the reality show to end. Gary and Gideon shared a reconciling hug.

Legends (Earth-Prime)

Gary and the Legends learn that they saved Franz Ferdinand.

Later, Gary and Gideon called a meeting with the others to get them to come to terms with their relationship with Gideon, to which they all agreed, both showing their love. Gary and the Legends were shocked to hear that Gideon wanted to prevent Franz Ferdinand's assassination in order to prevent World War I.[56]

To explain Gideon's plan, Gary explained to the Legends about the fixed point, a point in time that could not be broken, and they had a chance to save the Archduke. The Legends knew that they could take the Evil Waverider by causing the aberration.

The Legends see how Sara gets killed multiple times

Gary and the Legends watch Sara die many times.

Gary, Sara, Nate and Gideon put together the perfect plan, however they went to the Fixed Point Bar, as many time travelers had tried to prevent the Archduke's assassination. Gary went to the pocket dimension to inform Ava and Gwyn that they needed a device to freeze time and they realized that if there was no World War I, Gwyn would never be a time traveler. Gary, Nate, Gideon, Astra and Behrad took it upon themselves to motivate Sara by trying thousands of attempts while the other spectators cheered.

The Legends see the evil Waverider from the distance

The Legends see the Evil Waverider arrive.

Gary and the others realized that there was a person preventing the murder from happening, so Gwyn arrived with the device, and everyone in the bar encouraged Sara to succeed. Gary and Gideon shared a kiss, before he left with the Legends to take the Evil Waverider. Prepared, the Legends were ready to take the ship.[57]

Facing the Robot Legends[]

However, Gary and the Legends discovered that the robots chasing them on the Evil Waverider turned out to be robotic versions of themselves. Gary and the others were discovered, but had to flee to the bar to hide, until Robot Behrad discovered them, but Astra killed him. The Legends didn't know what to do, so they listened to Gwyn's military plan to infiltrate the ship and distract the Legends. In the pocket dimension, Gary realized that Astra wouldn't let Gideon help.

Gary throws Robot Astra and Robot Ava into Hell

Gary throws the robots into Hell.

As part of the plan, Gary transformed into a necrian to trick Robot Astra and Robot Ava into the pocket dimension. Opening the doors, Gary flung the robot duo into hell to be burned. Gary talked to Gideon about his situation with Astra and later talked to her to find out that Astra saw Gideon as her daughter and was only trying to protect her. Gary encouraged her to trust her, but they were interrupted by Zari and Robot Zari, who were fighting. Not knowing which one it was, Gary thought about eating anyone until they knew which one was the real Zari.[58]

Retirement[]
Evil Gideon removes the air from the ship

Gary, Gwyn and Astra lose their oxygen.

In order to save Gideon, Gary and the Legends took her to the sickbay to recover from her injury from the robot Astra Logue, however, they had to repower evil Gideon to help, and by saving the real Gideon, Gary and the others were going to suffocate until Gideon decided to make a deal with her, which was that they would return to their normal lives, and she would stay to run the ship, something that the evil AI accepted.

Zari, Gary, and Gideon see Zari's possible future

Gary and Gideon show Zari her possible future.

Gary aided Gideon in his plan, and they used a hologram to show the Legends their future if they retire. The duo showed Zari that she would win an award, Behrad would have a children's channel, Astra would run for mayor, Nate would be an author, Gwyn would have a home of his own, Spooner would return to Texas, and Sara and Ava would have a daughter.

The Legends take a picture before retiring

Gary and the Legends take a goodbye photo.

After agreeing to retire, Gary decided to stay with Gideon for new adventures together and had an epic farewell party with his friends, taking a picture, before leaving, promising to meet up in the pocket dimension. At a romantic dinner, Gary discovered that Gideon gave Gwyn an Alun robot to trick him, and he was worried that Gideon was changing, and argued with evil Gideon about the situation, being tricked by her, and Gary was thrown into the temporal zone, since eivl Gideon didn't want Gideon to lose focus.[59] Falling into his Necrian form, Gary went back to the stone age, asking for a door to return home.[60]

Reunion with Gideon and saving Alun[]

After creating a gate, Gary, after 3 weeks, managed to travel to the pocket dimension, and warned that Gwyn was in danger in 1916. Gary noticed that Sara was acting strange, and revealed that her Kriblix DNA caused her to be in danger. pregnant. Gary and the others were reunited with Gideon, who now changed, warned them not to disturb anything. The Legends traveled to World War I, where they met Gwyn, and Gary told Sara that she has no powers because the baby fed on it.

The Legends get tricked by Mike

Gary and the Legends are betrayed and tricked by Mike while stealing the Waverider.

To prevent Alun Thomas's death, Gary and the others made a plan to lure out the repairman, and make a deal with him. After convincing the repairman, Gary and the Legends discovered that his name was Mike, who turned out to be a big fan of the team, and he explained the situation to Mike to save Alun, something he denied, but they convinced him to help. to pretend that the Alun robot died in the battle. However, before the plan could begin, Gary and the Legends were frozen by Mike, and he stole the Waverider.

The Legends and Mike are arrested by the Time police

Gary, the Legends and Mike are arrested by the Time Police after altering time.

Gary, Nate, and Gwyn congratulated Sara on her pregnancy, but focused on saving Alun, and he helped Gwyn save his younger self, who turned out to be brave, not cowardly. After Nate saved Alun, Gary reconciled with Gideon and they had sex to reunite with the others, and return to the ship. Gary and Gideon flirted with each other and confronted Mike about the betrayal, however, they were tricked again, and Gary fell to the ground with the others when they were stopped by the Time Police, who arrested them along with Mike for their crimes to the timeline, which upset everyone.[60]

Alternate reality[]

Gary in Elseworlds

Gary in Elseworlds.

In an Elseworlds alternate reality created by John Deegan after Mar Novu gave him the Book of Destiny, Gary Green was turned into a criminal bartender working in an nightclub owned and operated by Cisco Ramon and his criminal organization. In this alternate reality, Gary Green was a huge fan of the Trigger Twins, a criminal duo made of Oliver Queen and Barry Allen. When the Twins came to his bartender station, he happily greeted them and showed them to Cisco Ramon. After the Twins got beat up by Ramon's men, Gary approached them and asked them if now would be a bad time to get a picture with them. Gary Green was restored to a normal Time Bureau Agent after The Trinity and their allies defeated Deegan, and Gary's mind about this encounter was presumably wiped when reality was restored to normal.[61]

Personality[]

"Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God!"
—Gary's stressful signature

For the most part, Gary is a loyal agent of the Time Bureau, more than keen to carry out his mission. However, he is susceptible to threats, particularly those involving injury or death, in addition to not being a particularly skilled operative on behalf of his Bureau.[1][2] Gary is not the bravest, but he does what he can to support those who he knows can save the day. He is often the butt of jokes, from his coworkers and from the Legends, but he doesn't let any of it get to him, and continues being cheerful. Gary is very awkward and excitable around people which tends to make himself get passed off as annoying. He tends to go on long, meandering, info-dumps that would have a point if the majority of people didn't cut him off. Mick refers to him as the 'Time Dweeb'. He is tentative and a bit fearful around the Legends at first, possibly from being beaten up on by Captain Sara Lance. However, as time goes on, he is shown working together with them more fondly and even "shipped" his boss with Sara Lance.[12]

While generally loyal, Gary is not blinded by his fidelity, as he expressed sadness and frustration towards his colleagues at the Bureau and the Legends for never giving him the respect he deserved. Subsequently, he was easily manipulated by Neron once the demon pointed out how demanding Constantine was towards him and was swayed by Neron's gift of his missing nipple, which had previously been ripped off by a unicorn. He hoped he was considered a "loved one" by Ray, which he believed could prevent Neron from using his arm to kill him, but Gary knew this not to be the case even before Ray told him he wasn't. He did not like being Constantine's "plant sitter" and always being the butt of others' jokes, leading to his betrayal and decision to join Neron.[3][15]

Gary is shown to be kind and caring for others. He ignored Tabitha's persuasions for him to punish the Legends and instead used his wishing powers to try to protect them from Neron's wrath. However, his inner frustrations came to a breaking point, somewhat, when they failed to understand this, and he decided to make them feel how he felt - like a joke. Despite his valid exasperation, Gary quickly expressed regret for his actions and realized that he wasn't going to solve anything by acting out against them, seeing his conduct was basically the same they did with Gary when they saw and considered him with little significance, indicating that he is quite considerate. He was grateful to be offered friendship and grew a better relationship with Ava and the Legends when Sara revealed that they were initially recruited because they did not matter to the timeline and were effectively "losers", something Gary empathized with.[6]

Powers and abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Necrian physiology: As a Necrian, Gary Green's physiology provides him with abilities that aren't possessed regular humans.
    • Prehensile tentecles: As a Necrian, Gary has prehensile tentecles strong enough to easily restrain and lift people.[39]
    • Extendable mouth: Gary's mouth can can extend into his torso, enabling him to swallow people whole.[39]
    • Bodily contortion: Gary's entire body can compress to fit through small spaces (such as a building's plumbing system); quite similarly to an octopus.[40]
    • Superhuman durability: As a Necrian, Gary’s biology is far more dense than that of a normal human allowing him to sustain a great deal of damage. An example is when evil Gideon sucked him out into the temporal zone and he fell hundreds of feet on to the ground without a singe scratch.
    • Alien magic: Due to his Alien status, Gary Green is able to use alien magic. This was confirmed by John Constantine.[38]
      • Shapeshifting: It appears that, at least for some time, Gary was able to maintain his human form without his glasses; this was evident when he remained in his human form after he was stabbed to death by Atropos and his glasses fell off.[35] Apparently, this more permanent transformation was initiated by spending some time in a chrysalis; after he had done so for the second time, he reverted to his true alien form, and is now dependent on his glasses to assume his human form.[38]
      • Bonding Spell with John Constantine: When John Constantine harvested Gary's essence from his alien chrysalis, John was able to cast a spell that connected his mind with that of Gary's, creating a bond. Constantine was able to sense, see, and feel Gary's emotions and feelings with this bond, but the connection was interrupted by Zari when she used the Air Totem to forcefully disconnect John Constantine from Gary.
  • Magic: Using his final Fairy Godmother wish, Gary became an apprentice to John Constantine, studying magic under him.[28] Since then, he has the ability to perform warlock-level spells, albeit partially successful[62] or entirely unsuccessful.[63]
    • Backward walking: Gary tried using a teleportation spell, but it backfired and made him walk backwards instead.[63]
    • Partial door access: Gary can partially unlock any magically sealed door. He once used this spell and removed the doorknob. This lets any sealed entity escape from the formerly locked room.[62]
    • Interdimensional travel: Gary can transport himself and anyone whose touching him to Hell for 4 hours.
    • Object teleportation: Gary was able to teleport the pieces of the Loom of Fate with hand gestures to hide them from the Fates, as well as teleport them back.
    • Pyrokinesis: Gary was able to set his hands ablaze as part of his act for a circus. However since he’s still learning to control his magic, the fire caused him pain and he was forced to dip his hands in water.[50]

Former powers[]

  • Dark magic/Demonic physiology: Gary's nipple had become connected to demonic dark magic due to his bitten-off nipple ending up trapped in Hell, then given back to him by Neron.[4]
    • Hypnosis: Gary's nipple had gained the power to turn into a hypnotizing eye, allowing him to mind control the entirety of the Time Bureau headquarters.[4]
    • Wish: While bonded to Tabitha, Gary used his Fairy Godmother ties for malicious purposes as she fed on his anger and vengeance. This included torturing the Legends by trapping Mick Rory's mouth in a pacifier, transforming Nate Heywood into a resemblance of his high school self, and forcing Ava Sharpe and Sara Lance to tap dance at impossibly high speeds. However, the Legends were able to persuade him to start using the Fairy Godmother to do good.[6]
  • Magic/Wish: Gary had become a host for the Fairy Godmother, giving him the power to wish for nearly anything and have it come true.[4]

Abilities[]

  • Multilinguism: Gary can speak English and his native Necrian. Though he cannot speak English in his true form, Gary can speak Necrian as a human.
  • Time travel protocol: While working with the Time Bureau, Gary learned and was able to implement the rules and regulations of time travel.
  • Average intellect: Although others view him as an "idiot," Gary is sometimes quite intelligent. He was shown to be a competent Time Bureau member, albeit somewhat disorganized. In addition, when Tabitha tried to manipulate Gary into torturing the Legends, he saw through her manipulations and instead used her to hang out with and protect the Legends. Gary was also not fooled when the Legends attempted to manipulate him into not using his Fairy Godmother powers against them by "schmoozing" him.[6] Also as a former Time Bureau agent, Gary is able to efficiently sort and complete large amounts of paperwork, assisting others such as Nate Heywood.[17] As Gary is an alien, he is also capable of using various advanced alien technology that most if not all humans are incapable of functioning.
  • Occult knowledge: Since becoming John's apprentice, Gary has acquired knowledge of the supernatural. As John is the master of the dark arts and well versed in demonology, Gary soon learnt deep information of demons from Hell.[28]

Equipment[]

Original multiverse[]

Former equipment[]

  • Glasses: Gary uses glasses.
  • Time courier: Gary carries a time courier. This device allows him to transport through time and space without the need of a timeship. It has been stolen multiple times by Wally West, Sara Lance, and Mona Wu, respectively.[15][9]

New multiverse[]

  • Transmogrification glasses: Gary uses special glasses that enable him to transform into a human form, including his iconic suit. As opposed to a traditional image inducer, the effect is an actual physical transformation, not a hologram. However, the effect only lasts as long as the glasses are worn.[38]

Trivia[]

  • Gary claims to be a level-9 warlock in Dungeons & Dragons.[11]
  • He has poor circulation.[1]
  • Gary has a fear of anything covered in sheets[12] and heights.[54] He also used to be afraid of trains.[13]
  • He had a habit of sleepwalking to work.[15]
  • Gary has astigmatism, which caused him to fail flight training.[12]
  • He enjoys crocheting.[64]
    • This skill is subconscious enough for Gary to crochet something while deep in thought, to even his surprise.
  • It is implied that Gary is Jewish, as he once claimed to have had a dream in which he was driving to a Shul (synagogue).[23]
  • Gary is the 12th character in the Arrowverse to have an episode ("The Virgin Gary") named after him in a civilian sense in some way, after Sara Lance, Felicity Smoak, Harrison Wells, Oliver Queen, Alex Danvers, Zari Tarazi, Harry Wells, Iris West-Allen, Winn Schott, Ava Sharpe, and Nora West-Allen.
  • Gary is the first openly pansexual male character on the show.
  • Despite being 6 feet tall, Gary is the second shortest major male character in Season 4, tied with Nate Heywood. Hank is 6'3", Ray is 6'2", and Mick is 6'1". The only major male character shorter than Gary this season is Constantine at 5'11".
  • Nate Heywood's nickname for him is "Gare-Bear".[6]
  • Gary is implied to have a close friendship with Ava. According to Ava, Gary excitedly told her about his injured nipple soon after defeating the unicorn.[15] He is also Ava's co-pilot on her timeship.[1] They apparently had brief issues,[23] but eventually made amends.
  • Gary is the only DC's Legends of Tomorrow character to appear in the 2018 crossover Elseworlds.
  • Gary used to eat humans until going undercover in the Time Bureau.[38]
  • While it's unknown how much of Gary's past is a lie, he does state having bad acne and braces for his teeth were his high school era misfortune (before using a wish to give them Nate to vent frustration); suggesting his alien species can suffer similar ailments as humans.
  • Gary mentions having an aunt Stacey, who gave him Beebo socks. While the socks were clearly part of his shapeshifting disguise, it's possible Gary does have an aunt Stacey who liked Beebo.
  • Gary likes the bone marrow of humanaoids. He mentioned that an Ava clone tasted delicious.
  • It is possible that the reason Gary had difficultly fitting in the Time Bureau is due to his alien status. As an alien undercover on Earth, Gary had no knowledge of how to act like a human, which was probably why he was shunned at the Bureau. In fact the only ones who tolerated Gary were Ava Sharpe and to some extent the Legends.
    • This would also explain his obsessive loyalty to Sharpe and the Legends, since they are the only people who truly care about Gary.
  • He's left-handed.[50]
  • Gary is the first member of the Legends to not be a human.
  • Gary prefers to eat people by going limbs and working up to the head.
  • According to a throwaway line before they were arrested by the Time Police in Season 7, Gary likes using chocolate syrup while intimate with Gideon.

Behind the scenes[]

  • In the episode "Egg MacGuffin", when Neron tries to manipulate Gary into thinking the Legends treat him badly, one of Gary's flashbacks consists of him being pulled out of a trash compactor by Mick during the events of "Here I Go Again". This shouldn't be possible, as those events only took place within a simulation.
