The Green Monster is a custom crossbow created by Felicity Smoak and Curtis Holt for John Diggle. It fires arrows in the place of crossbow bolts.
History
When John Diggle took over the mantle of Green Arrow, Felicity Smoak and Curtis Holt created the Green Monster for him to use as his primary weapon, allowing him to shoot arrows.[1]

After taking up the mantle of Green Arrow, John Diggle used the device when he needed to shoot arrows in the field due to his lack of advanced archery training.[1] Unbeknownst to Team Arrow, the Green Monster was also to compensate for John's tremors in his arm ever since the destruction of Lian Yu. John used the crossbow until Curtis Holt's implant stopped working, upon which he presumably temporarily retired the device.[2]
