Hildy was a performer and a circus attraction in Barnum's Roving Museum of Freaks and Hypnotic Hippodrome known as the Bearded Lady.

At some point, Hildy lived in Salem, Massachusetts, but later left presumably due to its small-minded people who disapproved of her unusual facial hair growth rate caused by hormonal imbalance.

Prior to 1870, Hildy joined P.T. Barnum's traveling circus as an attraction and a performer under the name Bearded Lady.

After a busy day at the circus, Hildy joined Barnum and B'wana Beast in a bar, where Barnum informed them of the circus's impending closure due to the saber-toothed tigar's escape, to which Hildy complained about not wanting to go back to Salem before she was dead. Hildy then stood by the bar when she was harassed by a bar patron. Nate Heywood came to her defense and steeled up, making the patron hurt himself, to which Nate exclaimed that he himself was also a freak.

Later, B'wana Beast assisted Barnum in kidnapping Ray Palmer and Jefferson Jackson, knocking out both, when Hildy thought that they needed Nate, but Barnum was already content with the two Legends.

The next day, Hildy shook her head in disapproval when Barnum made his introduction, as she already knew that the show would go downhill.[1]
