- "You are all here because something is missing from your life, right? Something elusive, something that you can't quite explain. I bet you've looked for this key to happiness in religion, or maybe philosophy. Maybe on a walk in nature, or just watching the big football game at home. Some of you may have tried to find it at your jobs. You've looked everywhere. But, my friends, if you don't know what it is you're looking for, if you don't know what's missing, you're never gonna be able to find it. That's why you're here today with me, so that I can show you what that missing piece is."
- —Ally Allston giving the Inverse Society a lecture[src]
The Inverse Society was a cult that was founded and led by Ally Allston.
History[]
At some point, Ally Allston founded the Inverse Society with the aim of getting people to merge with their "shadow-self" from the Inverse World. She recruited several individuals into it, such as Lucy Lane, Heather Ackerman, Erin Wu, and Kit Faulkner. Ally used her family pendant as a way to allow people to travel to the Inverse World with the addition of drug overdose, a dangerous process that killed Heather Ackerman.
Lucy was one of Ally's most faithful followers and took her drugs in an attempt to see the Inverse World, but her sister Lois found her and saved her. Believing Lucy had tried to kill herself, Lois wrote an article for the Daily Planet exposing Ally and calling the group a cult. The Inverse Society was then forced into hiding in dark web chat rooms.[1]
Eventually, Kit Faulkner, one of Ally's followers and chief of operations of the AmerTek, went to the Shuster Mines to oversee the arrival of Superman's Inverse World counterpart.[2] Ally went with several of her followers to Smallville to intimidate Lois, at Lucy's request after she tried to debunk Lois' story on a podcast.[3]
In New Carthage, Ally was giving the Inverse Society a lecture and realized that journalist Chrissy Beppo was undercover. However, this was a trap as Ally expected her to show up and showed Chrissy footage of Lois admitting that she hated Ally and wanted to bring her down.[1] Later, Ally with the help of one of her followers, drugged Chrissy so she could travel to the Inverse World. Kit Faulkner was killed by Superman's Inverse World counterpart, who wanted to stop Ally from achieving her goals.[4]
Eventually, Lieutenant General Mitch Anderson, who went AWOL after killing Superman's Inverse World counterpart, gave Ally the duplicate of her pendant from the Inverse World.[5] Ally, Anderson, and a few of her followers went to the Shuster Mines and opened a portal to the Inverse World. However, most of her followers likely disintegrated when they tried to go through the portal. Superman arrived to save the followers from harm. Anderson took the opportunity and stole Ally's pendant and passed through the portal unharmed. Ally was then arrested by the Department of Defense.[6]
Lucy gave Sam Lane's card to Erin Wu, who used it to sneak Ally out of prison.[7]
When Ally crossed over into the Inverse World, the Inverse Society gathered at a secluded lodge in Burnham Woods to await her return. When over a month passed and Ally did not come back, the majority of members lost faith and left, but a small group of supporters, like Lucy and Erin, remained. But they also left the Society as they watched Ally absorb Sam Lane's life force.[8]
