Joey Rose is a former strongman at the Central City Circus and a meta-human.

Biography[]

Joey was a member of the Central City Circus since Nathan Bliss was a child, and continued to be for a number of decades. In 2013, after the circus was closed, he comforted the ringmaster, Mr. Bliss. However, following the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator explosion, he gained meta-human abilities, growing bigger and considerably stronger.[1]

Mr. Bliss sent Joey to the Central City National Bank to retrieve a key. At the bank, Joey encountered the Flash. He began to fight him, the Flash getting in a few punches, but Joey was much stronger. He threw the Flash into a concrete column, causing him to break his ankle and the column to fall, giving Joey enough time to escape. He returned to the defunct Central City Circus, their base of operations. He handed over the key, but warned Mr. Bliss about the Flash and his super-speed. In contrast to Joey, Mr. Bliss considered the super-speed to be an opportunity for them, not a problem.[2]

The Flash later came to the Central City Circus where he found Joey standing guard. Joey later knocked him down and almost hurt him, before Mr. Bliss intervened.[3] Mr. Bliss locked Barry up, and Joey watched on as Bliss told Barry his actual life story. After he finished, Bliss decided to torture Barry until he was compliant, giving his nightmares.[1] Joey watched on as it happened.

Suddenly, Cisco Ramon and Caitlin Snow crashed through, taking Barry. Joey began to pick the truck up, throwing it far away from the tent. Following this, he met the snake lady, suggesting that she had let them go. He believed it was fortunate in that case that he had thrown the truck so far. They returned to the tent, announcing that the three had escaped. Mr. Bliss believed that overall they didn't actually need The Flash, and he asked everyone to put on their costumes, as it was showtime.[4] He watched on as his partner questioned Mr. Bliss' motives, but she was quickly shot down by Bliss. As they headed out, she questioned whether Joey was truly willing to help Mr. Bliss. He reasoned that if he couldn't beat him, he had to align himself with him. They headed out in to the stadium, where the entire audience were brainwashed by Mr. Bliss.[5]

The woman soon decided to rebel and attack Mr. Bliss, with snakes constricting around him. Joey stepped in and grabbed the woman, beginning to strangle her, as she'd disobeyed Mr. Bliss. However, she was quickly saved by The Flash, who locked him and his fellow performers up in to their cages, beating them. Joey and the rest of the Circus were locked up in the Pipeline.[6]
