At some point in time on Earth-1, John Carpenter directed a known action film, which depicted a city under siege.
In 2018 when Star City was briefly in crisis due to actions of Cayden James, Rene Ramirez compared the situation to one of Carpenter's movies, erroneously naming it Escape from Detroit. Curtis Holt, being a fan of the movie was unsure whether to correct Rene on the title or embrace the reference.[1]

Time-traveling Ray Palmer from 2020 showed some awareness of John Carpenter's movies in 1989, comparing the Freddy Meyers sating that situation went from "John Hughes to John Carpenter", thus indicating that Carpenter directed at least one movie about serial killer. [2]

- The movie Rene attempts to reference is one of John Carpenter's Escape dilogy, which includes titles Escape from New York and Escape from L.A.. Detroit was nowhere to be seen in the franchise with proposed third movie having the working title Escape from Earth.
