"Oliver told me the truth about Vlatava, about my father. Why did you let me believe a lie? You let me hate you."
"Every child deserves to believe that his father is a hero. And believing it, you became one. If he could see you today, I know he would be so proud of you."
John Diggle and Roy Stewart[src]

An unnamed man was a soldier of the Marine Corps. He was the husband of an unnamed woman, the father of John Diggle and the late Andy Diggle, and the paternal grandfather of A.J. Diggle, Sara Diggle, and John Diggle, Jr..

Biography[]

Early life[]

At some point, this man married an unnamed woman. In 1977,[1] they had a son, John Diggle, and years later had another, Andy.

At some point, this man joined the U.S. Marine Corps. The man would take his son, John Diggle, to see Starling City Rockets games every weekend using the old subway.[2]

Death[]

"Those are the unredacted files from the Vlatava mission. Your father didn't die saving his unit. According to that, he died because he was negligent. And he took two marines with him. The only reason that anyone got out of there was General Stewart."
Oliver Queen to John Diggle[src]

On a Marine Corps mission in Vlatava, the man made a mistake which led to the deaths of himself and two other soldiers.[3]

Legacy[]

Original multiverse[]

"I mean, the guy is a real bona fide American hero."
"Not to John. John blames General Stewart for his father's death during a mission they were both on in Vlatava."
"Oh, yeah. That would be enough to alienate someone like John, and why he wouldn't have told us about him, but it's not true."
"Which part?"
"According to the Pentagon's official account, the Vlatava mission was so successful that the General was actually, for a stint of time, appointed head of DARPA."
"But if... if the mission was a success, why would he lie to John about it?"
"To protect him?
"
Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak[src]

Eventually, General Roy Stewart ended up marrying the late man's wife. Stewart let John Diggle believe his father was a war hero. As a result, John blamed Roy for his father's death, but years later, Roy ended up telling John the truth.[3]

New multiverse[]

"You lost your old man young."
"That's... that's hard, man. That's real hard. My old man was a marine deployed overseas when I was a boy, killed in action."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"It's all right. But it left me with a lot of questions about him and me, so I get it when those questions become more important than anything else in the world, man."
"Believe me, I get it."
"What you have to remember is that we all end up in the same place eventually, man, and you'll see your father soon enough.
"
