Krypton was the home planet of the Kryptonians, before its destruction in 1979. It was located 2,000 light-years from Earth,[1] orbiting an old red dwarf star called Rao.
Overview[]
The planet was separated into guilds, two known ones being the science and military.[2] Krypton was governed by the Ruling Council, but its exact composition and functioning are unknown.
Apparently, birds didn't exist on Krypton.[3]
A flower native to Krypton was the Dar-Essa.[4]
Krypton had historic sites of the ancient ruins in Old Krypton, before the worship of Rao.[5]
Krypton's scientists designed probes powered by BetaHedrons (similar to Omegahedrons), which contained information on the planet's culture, religion, technology, etc. These probes were sent out into space as a means of communication and so others could learn about Kryptonians' civilization.[6]
History[]
Beginnings[]

Kryptonian life began on Urrika, the planet's first continent. Urrika was inhabited by the Juru, a matriarchal tribal people with a polytheistic religion. Among their worshipped entities was Yuda Kal, a goddess of life and birth. Over time, the people's religion became monotheistic, with the sun god Rao becoming the only God. With the worship of Rao, modern Krypton was born.[5]
Over time, the Juru's way of life became condemned due to its usage of dark magic. Eventually, the Ruling Council of Krypton ordered any evidence of the Juru, including their language and so-called "superstitions", to be destroyed and erased from their history.[5][7]
War with Daxam[]
Krypton is known to have feuded with its sister planet, Daxam, over their various differences, such as Democracy vs. Monarchy and how life should be lived. Both Krypton and Daxam went to war over their respective ideals, with casualties in the thousands.[8]
Dominator invasion[]
At some point prior to 1966, Krypton faced an invasion by the Dominators. These hostile extraterrestrials killed many Kryptonians and even performed dangerous experiments on some.[9]
Destruction[]

In 1979, the planet was known to be unstable due to over-usage of its energy core, and would soon be destroyed. Amidst the chaos caused by the impending death of the world, members of the House of El chose to save who they could by sending them away from the planet. The infant Kal-El and his cousin, Kara Zor-El, were sent to Earth, with Kara instructed by her parents, Alura and Zor-El, to look after Kal-El. Shortly following their departure, the planet finally destabilized and exploded, destroying it utterly. The destruction of the planet released a shockwave that knocked Kara's pod off course and also sent pieces of the radioactive mineral kryptonite flying into space, some of which found its way to Earth.[1]
It was later discovered that Argo City survived the planet's destruction thanks to the efforts of Zor-El, who unfortunately died due to the tainted air following Krypton's explosion.[10] However, on December 10, 2019, it was destroyed in an antimatter wave, killing all, leaving Kal-El, his wife, Lois Lane, and their son, Jonathan, as the only survivors who later on evacuated to the D.E.O. in National City, and then to Earth-1 after that same wave destroyed Earth and the rest of Earth-38.[11] Argo was restored when the universe was recreated.[12]

Trivia[]
- Harry Wells implied that just as there were 53 (known) different versions of Earth, there existed multiple versions of Krypton in the multiverse, not just those known to have existed in Earth-38 and Earth-X (as well as Earth-75, 96, 99, 167, D, F and more.).
- It's implied that Krypton died (if it ever existed) in Earth-1's universe, and some kryptonite found its way to Earth since Oliver Queen has at least a few kryptonite arrows.[13][14]
Behind the scenes[]
- Krypton was first featured in Action Comics #1 (June, 1938) and was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
- In 2018, statements were released regarding the TV series Krypton in both January[15] and March[16], stating that it was not part of the Arrowverse and thus would not crossover with the DC shows of The CW.
