- "And hope was starting to wane. The planet's natural resources were reaching exhaustion. As the people discovered Krypton's fate, peace devolved into war, accelerating the planet's ruin. Our home was lost forever."
- —Jor-El A.I. to Clark Kent and Jordan Kent[src]
Krypton was the home planet of the Kryptonians before its destruction.
History
The planet was known to be unstable, and would soon be destroyed. Amidst the chaos caused by the impending death of the world, members of the House of El chose to save who they could by sending them away from the planet. The infant Kal-El and his cousin, Kara Zor-El, were sent to Earth, with Kara instructed by her parents, Alura and Zor-El, to look after Kal-El. Shortly following their departure, the planet finally destabilized and exploded, destroying it utterly. The destruction of the planet released a shockwave that knocked Kara's pod off course and also sent radioactive pieces of the mineral kryptonite flying into space, some of which found its way to Earth.[1][2]
