Lois Lane

Here's what I love about Lois Lane... when she smells a story, she goes after it with everything she has, even if it concerns her own boss.Morgan Edge on Lois Lane

Lois Lane is a former reporter of the Daily Planet. She is the daughter of Sam Lane, the estranged older sister of Lucy Lane, the wife of Clark Kent, and the mother of Jonathan and Jordan Kent. A strong and assertive investigative reporter who would rush headlong into dangerous situation to uncover the truth, Lois was in love with both Superman and Clark for a very long time, unaware at the time, that the two were one-and-the same. Eventually, Clark revealed his alter-ego to her and they got married and started their own family.

In the new multiverse, after Martha Kent died and found out that Jordan has powers, Lois and her family moved to Smallville. When Morgan Edge bought the planet and changed her article, Lois resigned and joined the Smallville Gazette, with her new editor-in-chief being Chrissy Beppo.

Early life

Daily Planet (Earth-38).png
Lois' employer, the Daily Planet.
Lois was born in Metropolis to General Sam Lane and an unknown mother. She has a younger sister, Lucy, but for unspecified reasons, the two never really got along.[1] Despite being raised in a family with a long military tradition, Lois never attended a military academy nor joined the U.S. Army; instead, she pursued a career in investigative journalism, rising to become one of the best reporters of the Daily Planet.

Over the years, Lois grew estranged from her father due to Sam's immorality, black and white view of aliens, and control issues over his daughter's life.[2]

Superman's girlfriend

Clark Kent, Lois' future love.
Lois won numerous awards during the course of her career[3] and was one of the first reporters to interview Superman, remaining one of his closest allies and developing strong romantic feelings for him.[4] She also began a strong rivalry with Cat Grant during the period in which the latter worked as the assistant to the Daily Planet's editor-in-chief, Perry White.[5] When Clark Kent began to work at the Daily Planet, he was paired with Lois and fell in love with her at first sight.

Over the years, Lois began a steady romantic relationship with Clark.[4] Eventually, she became aware that he and Superman are one-and-the-same.[6]

Lois has won the Siegel Prize for Women in Media over Cat multiple times.[7] At some point, she wrote a memoir titled A Time to Soar, which included details of her supposed relationship with Lucy.[1]

Trying to get an interview with Supergirl

In late 2015 when Supergirl appeared in National City for the first time, Lois, along with Clark, was said to furiously be working on getting an exclusive with the superheroine.[5] However, over the following years, Lois was apparently introduced to Supergirl by Clark and learned her civilian identity, Kara Danvers, and the two women soon became good friends.[6]

In late 2016, after Clark went on a brief visit to his cousin in National City, Lois called him in order to check if he was alright.[4]

Visiting Argo City

At some point after the battle against the Worldkillers, Clark decided to take a sabbatical from Earth to visit Argo City, leaving Kara in charge of the planet full-time.[8] He also brought Lois with him in order to share the experience of "connecting with Kryptonian culture" with the woman he loves. Clark and Lois explored the Jewel Mountains and attended several deliberations of the High Council.[6]

Around this time, Lois became pregnant.[9]

Back to Earth and battle for Earth-1

In his first spare day after he returned to Earth, Clark goes to the Kent Farm where he was raised, taking with him Lois and Kara in order to do some repairs to the van and the barn as well as enjoy an afternoon together. There, Lois tried once more to convince him to let her write an article about their time on Argo City despite Clark was skeptical as the public would then demand why Lois Lane was off-world with Superman, to which she pointed out she would invent something and that being the first woman who ever visited Krypton's remains is just something she "needed to write", finally managing to convince him before going to the barn in order to drive nails with a hammer.

While in the barn she got approached by Barry Allen and Oliver Queen, who arrived directly from Earth-1, at first she got scared and tried to fend them off with a hammer but, after Kara explained they were her friends, she cools off and introduced cheerfully. Later, they explained to her, Kara and Clark their situations of having switched powers and lives due to an unknown reason. Clark offered the two some time in his farm in order to reflect about what to do, however, a few hours later, Vibe came to the place telling them about A.M.A.Z.O.'s rampage on Earth-1's Central City leading them to come back. Lois suggested Clark join the fight.[6]
The Trigger Twins asks Superman's help.png
Oliver and Barry, turned in a couple of criminals known as the "Trigger Twins", visit the Fortress of Solitude to ask Superman's help.
A few hours later, while they were together in the Fortress of Solitude intent on preparing a barbecue, Lois and Clark are visited once more by Oliver, Barry and Cisco, the two explained to him that they were rendered powerless as well as a couple of criminals nicknamed the Trigger Twins, while Cisco was now a mob boss and Kara was held prisoner at the S.T.A.R. Labs after their Earth's reality was reshaped for the second time by Doctor John Deegan who, using the Book of Destiny, has given to himself Superman's destiny, looks and powers, taking over the whole world and becoming a sort of dictator. Clark explained he had seen similar artifacts in the past and know how to deal with them, as they're activated with the power of the mind and everything they had to do is to find that book. Hearing that, Cisco revealed to them that it's something important to him, probably "Superman" kept it in his vault inside the S.T.A.R. Labs, to which Clark and Lois exchanged a look of complicity saying he needed to go back to Earth-1.

Later, as Superman was battling Doctor Deegan on Earth-1 and he spawned a new A.M.A.Z.O. out of the Book to fight him, Lois arrived from Earth-38 armed with the Solar Hammer and leading a supporting team composed of Brainiac 5 and the Martian Manhunter. While Brainy handled A.M.A.Z.O. and J'onn protected the civilians, Superman and Lois attacked Deegan using the hammer, leading the Doctor to reach for the Book of Destiny sending a powerful shockwave that sent Lois several feet in the air in free-fall just in the exact moment Flash and Supergirl managed to slow down the Earth's time. Green Arrow took the opportunity to throw an arrow at the Book of Destiny and destroying it turning the reality back to normal, as well as Deegan's body, although with a scarred face who looks more like a skeleton. As soon as time began to flow again normally Superman reached for Lois, catching her just in time, while Brainy shut down A.M.A.Z.O. removing the robot's hard drive and completing the heroes' victory.[9]

Clark and Lois reveal to Kara that they're having a baby.
Back to Earth-38's Smallville, after Clark told Kara that he believed she's stronger than he could ever be and that's the reason why he's sure he was making the right thing, she asked him what does it mean and Lois reached them telling Clark to merely be direct, indirectly leading Kara to realize they're having a baby. After she happily congratulated with them, Clark revealed to her their intention to move to Argo City until the child is born and maybe a little longer. Although she knew she will miss both her cousin and Lois, Kara was overjoyed to hear him tell her that "the world doesn't need Superman if it has Supergirl" and that he felt it's safe to let its protection in her hands for a little while.
Clark Kent proposes.png
Superman proposes to Lois.
Back to the Fortress, while spending the evening together, Clark absentmindedly burns the barbecue and, after Lois made him notice it he apologized telling her that he wanted that night to be perfect; after the woman asked why Clark fumbled awkwardly about wishing all of their nights together to be perfect forever, to which Lois smiled and reminded him once more to be direct. Then, with a single clench of his fist, Clark put a chunk of coal under enough pressure to turn it into a diamond, placed it on a ring, kneel and started to propose to Lois, who accept to marry and passionately kissed him even before he managed to finish his sentence.[9]

About nine months after she and Clark returned to Argo City, Lois gave birth to their son, Jonathan Kent.[10]

Anti-Monitor Crisis

Traveling to Earth-16

After the beginning of the Anti-Monitor Crisis Lois and Clark, who were enjoying their peaceful time with their son in Argo City, received a holographic message from Kara, warning them of the city's impending destruction by antimatter. They evacuated John to his pod with help from Alura Zor-El sending him en route to the Earth before the city perished. Despite seemingly being wiped away as well, the Kryptonian hero and his wife were actually saved by the Harbinger, who gathered the worlds’ greatest heroes under the Monitor's order, so Clark and Lois found themselves in the D.E.O. headquarters together with Oliver Queen, Mia Queen, Kate Kane and Harbinger herself.

There, she reunites with Kara as Clark explained that he couldn't manage to save her mother. Few moments later, the heroes were informed of the Anti-Monitor's threat to the multiverse's existence; after the briefing, Lois and Clark told Kara that they couldn't find their son pod despite having sent it to Earth and Brainy started immediately into work to track it.

Right after this, the quantum towers buried underneath National City, rose above the surface, fending off the antimatter wave approaching the planet; then Harbinger brought at the D.E.O. Barry Allen, Sara Lance and Ray Palmer, explaining that the Anti-Monitor's army of shadow demons would have attacked the city in order for them to destroy said building and allow the antimatter to consume that universe too. In that moment, Brainy informed he had tracked Jonathan's pod to Earth-16, in the year 2046, and although Superman was ready to go rescue his son, Oliver convinced him to stay behind to protect National City, prompting Lois to go in his place together with Sara and Brainy.

After reaching Earth-16 Star City, Lois, Sara and Brainy followed the pod's tracker to the Arrowcave of that Earth and met a Oliver's doppelgänger, who had found the infant and took him to his lair in order to keep him safe from Grant Wilson's gangs. Initially the archer mistook them as foe, but later came to his senses after seeing Sara and being told she was from a parallel Earth. Then Lois took back her baby and thanked Oliver for protecting him.

Later the trio went to Earth-1, where Lois and Jonathan are reunited with Clark, just in time to assist Oliver's death after he sacrifice himself to allow the evacuation of three billion of Earth-38's inhabitants before it's destruction and the Monitor returned his body to his homeworld. Then, the Pariah appeared stating he had freed the Anti-Monitor and now everything is doomed.[10]
Looking for the Paragon of Truth

After the Monitor informed everyone of the heroes that there are seven individuals known as Paragons, described as "beings of the purest will who can ultimately defeat the Anti-Monitor", two of them being Kara Danvers, the Paragon of Hope, and Sara Lance, the Paragon of Destiny, while other two being "the Bat of the future" as the Paragon of Courage and a Kryptonian who had suffer "more loss than any mortal man could endure" as the Paragon of Truth; Lois volunteered to look for the latter alongside her husband after leaving baby Jonathan in the care of Mick Rory from Earth-74.

The couple first went to Earth-75 in order to verify if its Superman was the Paragon of Truth, however they received a message from Iris West-Allen informing them that Lex Luthor had stolen the Book of Destiny and was traveling the multiverse in search of every Supermen to get rid of all of them, having already succeeded in murdering the Superman of Earth-75, commenting they should speed-up their research before Lex managed to kill every single Superman in the multiverse.

Then, joined by Iris, Lois and Clark went to Earth-167's Smallville and met that universe's Clark Kent but, right after they informed him of the danger, all three of them are sent away by Lex, using the Book of Destiny.

Finally, the trio reached Earth-96 and met its Clark Kent, the editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet who has suffered the loss of all of the people he cared for in a terrorist attack at the newspaper, thus making him the Paragon of Truth; as the three explained the situation to him, he quickly changes into his Superman suit, getting quickly followed by Clark, stating his intention to help.

In that moment Luthor appeared, using the Book of Destiny to force Earth-96 Clark into trying to kill Earth-38 Clark; the two Supermen engaged in a battle through the skies of Earth-96 Metropolis, until Lois managed to knock Lex out. Using the Book of Destiny herself, she and the heroes were able to make Earth-96 Clark come back to his senses.

Clark, Lois, Iris and Earth-96 Clark then returned to their base of operations, the Earth-74 Waverider, where Lois had her husband's Earth-96 counterpart met her son. Then, after Ray Palmer attempted to use a piece of technology to locate the other Paragons, they found out that Kate Kane was actually the Paragon of Courage.[11]

On December 10, 2019, after with the assistance of Cisco Ramon the team managed to identify Barry Allen as the Paragon of Love, J'onn J'onzz as the Paragon of Honor and Ivy Town scientist Ryan Choi as the Paragon of Humanity, the heroes split: Ralph Dibny, Ray Palmer and Iris went to look for Choi, Diggle, Constantine and Mia visited Earth-666 in a last attempt to revive Oliver claiming his soul from Purgatory, while Clark, his Earth-96 counterpart, the Martian Manhunter and Sara, knowing that Earth-1 would have been the last reached by the antimatter wave, ventured the multiverse in order to save as much individuals as possible and take them to Earth-1, with Lois offering to stay on the Waverider bridge to coordinate the operations.

After she saw Earth-73 being destroyed, leaving only seven Earths left in the multiverse, Lois talked with the Monitor about how ironic it is that she is witnessing the biggest story in history yet no one will be around to read it, the Monitor revealed that his world and family were destroyed as well. Lois asked what they were like and he fondly described them and how he regretted not prioritizing them over his work; the cosmic entity complimented Lois on her journalism skills with her ability to get him to open up.

They were interrupted by Earth-96 Superman breaching in, informing them that he was unable to save the inhabitants of an Earth. Lois asked him why he put black on his crest, to which he told her it was to honor his wife and because even in the darkest times, it was hope that lift people out of darkness. After the hero left to save more lives, Mar Novu vanished as well, leaving Lois alone on the bridge. Later, after all the Earths in the multiverse were consumed, Harbinger mysteriously appeared on the Waverider mind-controlled by the Anti-Monitor, knocking out all of the heroes with a single gesture and generating a massive antimatter wave that ultimately destroyed even Earth-1. The Monitor was killed while confronting his nemesis, giving Pariah the time to teleport the Paragons to the Vanishing Point. Lois, her husband, and the remaining heroes were swept away by the antimatter wave and killed like everyone else in the multiverse.[12]

New multiverse

One month later, Lois was restored to existence after the Paragons and the Spectre created a new universe.[13] As a result from the merging of Earth-38 with Earth-1 and Earth-TUD5, the timeline was slightly changed, resulting in Lois and Clark having two sons instead of one, as well as Lex Luthor never being arrested by Superman, and being known worldwide as a beloved and respected humanitarian.[14]

Lois and Clark would later have twin boys, Jonathan and Jordan Kent. Jonathan was a happy, athletic kid, while Jordan had destructive outbursts and tantrums that were eventually diagnosed as social anxiety disorder.[15]

By 2009, Lois became a world-renowned journalist, gaining the jealousy of Cat Grant, who became her rival.[16]

Lois dines with her children alone while Clark is on a mission. When Clark returns to their house in Metropolis, Lois tells him that he has missed Jordan's doctor's appointment and that Jonathan is about to become a starter in varsity football though he is a freshman.

The next morning, she drinks coffee with her family. After the twins go to school, she questions Clark if it's not time to tell them the truth. She then goes with Clark to the Daily Planet, where they discover that Morgan Edge has been firing employees, like Whit. Sam Foswell calls Clark and warns him that he too was fired.

While talking to Clark, his phone rings indicating that his adoptive mother, Martha, had suffered a stroke and died.

Lois went to the funeral in Smallville with her family. There, she consoles Clark and they met Cobb Branden and later Lana Lang and her family. After an awkward moment, they then go to talk on the kent farm while the kids go to the barn. They talk about Morgan Edge, whom Lois says is bad and Kyle Cushing disagrees and gets angry. Lana then tells him to go after the children. When the twins have an accident in the barn, Sarah Cushing runs to warn the Kents. They run over there and Clark saves the boys. After the doctor arrives and examines the boys, discovering that they were not injured, Lois questions Clark again about telling them the truth.

The next morning, Lois and Clark go to the Smallville Bank to meet with Lana, who works there and informs them that, due to Martha's helpfulness to the poorer people of Smallville, the bank has the right to possess the farm unless Clark and Lois buy it. When they return home, the twins say they have found a spaceship and then the parents decide to tell the truth. Lois holds Clark's glasses while he lifts the truck with his hands and levitates it in the air. Lois tells the children that she was also surprised when she found out, but they are angry that they didn't know the truth before and left.

At night, Lois takes a call when she sees Clark battling a stranger on TV. When Clark returns home with the children, they reveal to her that Jordan has powers. When Jon makes a mean comment, Lois asks him to go to his room. The next day, Lois and Clark tell Lana that they have decided to keep the farm. Lois questions Lana if she knew that Morgan Edge is one of the bank's associates and she says she didn't know.[15]

Moving to Smallville

When Morgan Edge hanged her article, Lois resigned and joined the Smallville Gazette, with her new editor-in-chief being Chrissy Beppo.[17]

If you're not, I will, Smallville.Lois Lane to Clark Kent on teaming up with the heroes of Earth-1

Lois is described as "an award-winning, tenacious, righteous, and stubborn reporter who will go to any lengths to get the story and almost never fails".[18] She is known to do anything to get to the bottom of a story, even risking her own life in the process; according to Lois herself, "when you get kidnapped, you're on the right track" in reporting.[19] Lois is known to be a strong and assertive woman, more than capable of handling herself in dangerous situations. She is also kind and open-minded, as evidenced by her admiration of Superman and Supergirl, both extraterrestrials.

Lois has a difficult relationship with her father, Sam Lane, partly due to his disapproval of/interfering in her relationships with men and mainly because of his immoral traits, as Sam has an anti-view on all aliens in general.[2] For unknown reasons, Lois also does not get along with her younger sister, Lucy Lane at all.[1]

Lois is quite outspoken and direct, often reminding Clark not to "beat around the bush", as a result, she is also somewhat inhibited regarding her private or sexual life.[9] Lois has an innate excitable and adventurous side, never wanting to miss the chance to be into the field; this was demonstrated when she watched Barry Allen and Oliver Queen starting a fight and began cheering for the first or when she told Clark that if he doesn't want to go to Earth-1 to fight A.M.A.Z.O., she would have been happy to do it.[6]

As a wife and mother, Lois is very warm and loving towards her husband, Clark and her son, Jonathan Kent.[10] She is also an extremely compassionate woman, capable of using the Book of Destiny by concentrating on her love as Lex Luthor did with his hatred, and helping the brainwashed Superman of Earth-96 come back to his senses;[11] it was later explained by Lex that using the Book of Destiny is impossible if it's user is not deeply focused on something, proving the strength of her love and compassion, which also led Mar Novu himself opening up with Lois over his own past losses.[12]

In the new multiverse, Lois has a good relationship with her father, Sam Lane, due to the fact that he is open-minded and does not have an anti-view on all aliens in general. Lois is a loving wife and mother, as she cares about her husband, Clark Kent, and her sons, Jonathan Kent and Jordan Kent, she supports Clark's vigilante activities, despite the fact that it takes an emotional toll on her, due to his absence, she also respects Clark's decisions, even if he does not agree with some of them; such as keeping his identity as Superman a secret from their sons, Jonathan and Jordan until they reach adulthood, even though she believed they should have just told them the truth from the beginning. Lois has a good relationship with both of her sons, Jonathan and Jordan, however, she is far more concern for her son, Jordan; due to his social anxiety disorder. But this does not necessarily mean that he does not care about Jonathan. Lois has a sense of justice, honor and good morals; for example, when Morgan Edge started new business in Smallville; due to it's financial downfall, she attempted to expose his attempt to destroy the town, just like he had done with previous small towns. But the article that she wrote, regarding Morgan's misdeeds was prevented; due to the fact that he is the new owner of Daily Planet. After realising that as long as the Daily Planet is still owned by Morgan, the latter will always twist the truth, to prevent anything from affecting his reputation, Lois ultimately resigns from the Daily Planet and joins the Smallville Gazette in order to expose Morgan as the corrupt businessman he truly is.
