Original multiverse

Teacher at Garfield High School

When Jefferson Pierce announced that he was stepping down as principal of Garfield High School to the assembled teachers, Mr. Payton attended the meeting.[1]

In late 2019, Marcel taught Jennifer and Brandon's class. When Jennifer accidentally fried the computers, Marcel told everyone to stay calm, as he was going out to solve it but he was going to be back.[2]

Anti-Monitor Crisis

During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, Marcel as well as everyone in the multiverse except for the seven Paragons, was killed in an antimatter wave by the Anti-Monitor on December 10, 2019,[3] only to be restored a month later, after the Paragons and the Spectre created a new universe.[4]

One year later

The War for Freeland destroyed the Payton family house, causing the family to live in their car.

A year later, the family was present in a gang war between The 100 and the Kobra Cartel on the streets; Marcel's son was shot in the battle. Though Anissa Pierce and Darius Morgan gave CPR, Marcel's son did not survive.

The next day, Marcel who blamed himself as a dysfunctional father, told his problems to Jefferson Pierce in the principal's office of Garfield High School. Jefferson wondered why Marcel did not talk to him sooner, but Marcel answered that he felt that Jefferson was powerless to help him. In frustration, Marcel quit his job and stormed out the office.[5]

Marcel becomes a prize fighter in Lala's underground fight club; Jefferson follows Marcel there and asks Lala to stop the fight. Lala refuses. When Marcel becomes too injured to fight for the money he wants to make, Jefferson replaces him and earns the money.

Jefferson takes Marcel to Alvin Pierce's house and tells Marcel that he and his family can stay there and not in Marcel's car. Jefferson tries to give Marcel the prize money, but Marcel insists that Jefferson should keep it as rent.[6]

Tobias Whale, weeks later, approached Marcel and told him that he would like to place a hospital in the neighborhood of Alvin Pierce's house; Marcel explains to Tobias that he is there because of the kindness of Jefferson. Tobias offers Marcel his own house and proceeds to gain the house through eminent domain laws. Marcel meets with Jefferson and explains the encounter. Later, Marcel is used by Tobias at a press conference to demonstrate that Tobias as mayor is beneficial to the citizens of Freeland.[7]
