Mark Mardon, nicknamed Weather Wizard by Cisco Ramon, is the older brother of the late Clyde Mardon and estranged father of Joslyn Jackam. After the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator erupted, Mark was affected by the dark matter wave the same way as his brother, gaining the ability to control the weather. Over a year later, Mark was imprisoned in the S.T.A.R. Labs Pipeline by The Flash, but was freed by Leonard Snart and Lisa Snart along with the rest of the imprisoned meta-humans. He later freed Snart and James Jesse to form the Rogues, the former of whom refused to work with him, instead choosing to warn Barry, only for Mardon and Jesse to be defeated by the Flash and sent to Iron Heights Prison.

In an altered timeline, Mark was once again freed from prison by Hartley Rathaway and joined his team to take over Central City and kill The Flash and Joe West. However, due to Barry changing the timeline, Hartley made amends with Team Flash in the new timeline, thus never getting the opportunity to create his team.

In late 2013, Mark and Clyde robbed two banks in a single week; during the second robbery, Clyde shot and killed a security guard. Although the Mardon brothers got away, they also left enough evidence for the Central City Police Department to pursue. Barry Allen managed to deduct that they drove off in a Mustang Shelby GT 500 and used a farmhouse as a hideout. After Barry narrowed down the possible whereabouts to four farms, Detectives West and Chyre headed together to check on each one. Eventually, at the final location, they found Clyde, who shot Chyre while running to catch the getaway plane Mark was piloting. As they flew away, the S.T.A.R. Labs [[S.T.A.R. During his first night in the Pipeline, Mark grew unhappy at Cisco Ramon's choice of The Goonies for movie night, and he and the other metas voted to instead watch the film Mean Girls. Mark also requested that Cisco place half a bottle of bourbon on his brother's grave on Clyde's birthday.

After being sedated by having knockout gas sprayed in his cell, Mark was moved out of STAR Labs in a truck with the other meta-humans. He and the other metas awoke and began squabbling, with him in particular picking a fight with Kyle Nimbus. However, Leonard and Lisa Snart sabotaged the truck, and Mark and the others escaped, with him striking down the plane meant to take the metas to Lian Yu with a lightning bolt.

In the ensuing battle, Mark used his powers to hit the Flash with another lightning bolt, knocking him to the ground. He and Roy Bivolo approached Flash as Jake Simmons was about to kill him, but Simmons was killed by Leonard. Mark and Bivolo prepared to face Leonard only to have a gun pointed at them by Lisa but Leonard didn't kill them but reminded them who saved them, and the two metas left together. Mardon later tried to destroy Monument Point with a tsunami and numerous tornadoes. However, he was interrupted when The Flash and Firestorm arrived. While The Flash eliminated the tornadoes, Firestorm proceeded to deal with the tsunami. Mardon proceeded to take out Firestorm by using a wave shaped like a fist to split apart Jefferson Jackson and Martin Stein. Vixen then arrived and fought Weather Wizard while The Flash rescued Jax and Stein. While Vixen initially had the upper hand, Mardon managed to blast her with a bolt of lightning that knocked her into the sea and unconscious. ===Working with the Trickster===
Some months later, during the midst of the holiday season for Central City, Mark created a snowstorm and attacked Iron Heights, freeing Leonard Snart and James Jesse. After escaping the prison, Mark brought them to an abandoned toy factory and tried to convince them to help him kill The Flash, confident in their numbers, different skills, and knowledge of Barry's vicious defeat at Zoom's hands, leading him to believe the Scarlet Speedster was weak and vulnerable. Leonard (perhaps owing Barry after the latter saved his sister) decided to step out, instead choosing to warn Barry of their plans for the Flash.

After Mark created a storm so that Team Flash couldn't detect him, Barry raced over to a rooftop where Mark was calmly waiting on the edge. He played around with the Flash, asking Barry if he should either create a hailstorm or acid rain. Barry rejected both ideas and was about to use the Wizard's Wand when Mark stepped back from the edge and fell down. Surprised, The Flash looked over just in time to see him flying, creating air drafts to keep him aloft. The Flash chased after him, with Mardon gliding ahead. Barry quickly caught up and used the Wand, causing Mardon to crash to the ground.

Just when Barry believed it was over, The Trickster threw a box over, declaring that identical boxes containing bombs were throughout the city under almost 100 different Christmas trees. Mardon gave him an ultimatum: he could either stand there and let them publicly humiliate and kill him, or all of the bombs would go off, killing innocent people. Barry, not wanting to hurt anyone, handed over the Wand, allowing himself to be subjected to torture by Mardon. He proceeded to throw hail, shot him in to the air with wind, then struck him with lightning using the Wand. As The Trickster moved in to slit his throat and finally kill Barry, Jay, Harry, and Cisco managed to get rid of the bombs, allowing the Flash to tie up the Trickster and take the Wand back from Mark, powering him down. Patty Spivot arrived, about to kill him as vengeance for her father, but with some convincing from Barry, decided to arrest him instead.

Joining Hartley Rathaway's team
Hartley Rathaway freed Mardon from prison and recruited him, along with Nimbus, Bivolo, and Baez, to form a team with the purpose of taking over Central City and destroying The Flash. In addition, Hartley promised Mardon and Nimbus that they'd be allowed to kill Joe West to settle their scores. None of the criminals realized that Hartley was playing them all. Rathaway sent the criminals all over town to create chaos that would weaken the Flash and cause him to let down his guard. Hartley then went to Mayor Anthony Bellows and demanded that he surrender Central City to his team. When the mayor refused, Mardon led a revolt among his fellow metas and they prepared to leave the team. However, Rathaway then sent them to attack and destroy a dam, which would flood the nearby area, killing hundreds. Baez, feeling guilt and regret, informed Iris West of the plan, and she and Team Flash set up an ambush. Mardon created several tornadoes and fought an exhausting fight with the Flash, but he was defeated when the Flash threw a lightning bolt at him at the same time as Mardon was throwing a lightning bolt at the speedster. The resulting explosion knocked Mardon out and he was arrested again.

However, this timeline was later erased when Barry traveled back in time and altered events, which caused Hartley to turn good and make amends with Team Flash. Thus, he never formed the team and Mardon remained in prison.

In 2018, Iron Heights is hit by a freak lightning storm that disabled the meta dampeners, forcing the new warden to quickly place meta cuffs on the meta inmates. At the time when Barry Allen, Iris West and Nora West-Allen were visiting to see if any inmates had escaped, suddenly, Mardon's daughter Joslyn broke into the meta wing, brandishing a staff powered by meta tech that granted her powers similar to Mardon's. Unaware that she intended to kill him for abandoning his family, the Flash whisked to S.T.A.R. Labs.

As Joslyn threatened to destroy the city if Mardon wasn't handed over to her, the Flash interrogated Mardon over his relationship with his daughter. Later, Team Flash attempted to use a hologram of Mark controlled by Iris West to draw Joslyn out. However, this failed when Joslyn attempted to attack the hologram, exposing their trick.

Unlike Clyde, Mark is the more mature and sensible of the two siblings, his anger is mostly fueled by a desire for vengeance, but he does not bear the inherent psychological mindset of a killer as his first inclination is not towards killing. That said - this does not negate his capacity for cruelty under incendiary circumstances. He appears to be aggressive and confrontational with anyone he meets, such as attempting to pick a fight with Kyle Nimbus for no apparent reason.

Mark loved his brother very much and was devastated by Clyde's death as well as upset with himself about his inability to protect him, for Mark felt it was his responsibility to look after Clyde. However, he did not let his love for Clyde bias his judgment and make excuses for his late brother's behavior; Mark was sane enough to fully acknowledge it was indeed flawed. He is also has a confident air on him, believing that working with a team can defeat the Flash and even when Patty held him at gun point, he laughed and told her she didn't have it in her to shoot him.

"Yeah, Clyde was no saint, but he was family. If you can't protect your family, the least you can do is avenge 'em."
—Mark to Joe West about the reasoning of his actions[src]

Biography

Early life

Mark had been taking care of his brother, since Clyde was 10 years old.[1] At some point in his life, Mark along with his brother Clyde, became bank robbers. During one of his many robberies, Mark and Clyde robbed a bank and Mark shot Patty Spivot's father in the face for a few hundred dollars.[2]

In high school, Mark fathered a daughter with an unnamed woman and subsequently decided to focus on his criminal career, which would lead to parental issues for him down the road.[3]

Labs particle accelerator exploded and interacted with the ongoing storm, causing a lighting to directly hit the plane and blowing it up. Clyde made it out relatively unharmed, though Mark's status remained unknown and he was presumed deceased for over a year.[1][4]

Vengeance on Joe West

It was much later revealed that Mark did survive the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator explosion/the plane crash and had gained the same powers as his late brother, only that unlike Clyde, Mark broke almost every bone in his body during the incident, explaining his long absence. Upon learning the death of his brother, Mark returned to Central City to get revenge for Clyde's death. He first went to the Central City Morgue and asked the coroner the name of the cop who shot his brother; when the coroner refused to answer, Mark then tortured him with the form of hailing, using his weather powers. By the time the coroner finally caved in and told him Joe West was the one responsible, Mark promptly killed the battered informant.[1]

Weather Wizard summoning lightning

Mark Mardon summoning lightning out to get Joe.

Some time later, Joe and Barry Allen were driving when Mark sent a bolt of lightning down on them from the truck behind them in an attempt to kill Joe. Barry managed to run Joe to safety just in time. Mardon later confronted Joe in the Central City Police Department and once again attempted to kill him with lightning. However, he was stopped when The Flash and used the Wizard's Wand on him, but Mardon still managed to escape.[1]

Joe and Eddie Thawne headed to one of the Mardon brothers's old hideouts, but Mark anticipated their arrival and kidnapped Joe using a gust of wind. He brought him to the pier and bound and gagged him before creating a tsunami to wipe out Central City, making Joe watch the whole time. However, the tsunami was dissipated by Barry, who was forced to run so fast that he traveled back in time, effectively erasing the events of the past few days.[1]

With his future knowledge, Barry found Mark at his apartment and took him to the Pipeline at S.T.A.R. Labs, with him threatening to destroy the city with a tidal wave the whole time, effectively preventing Mark's future actions.[5]

Time in the Pipeline

During his first night in the Pipeline, Mark grew unhappy at Cisco Ramon's choice of The Goonies for movie night, and he and the other metas voted to instead watch the film Mean Girls.[6] Mark also requested that Cisco place half a bottle of bourbon on his brother's grave on Clyde's birthday.[7]

Escape from the Pipeline

After being sedated by having knockout gas sprayed in his cell, Mark was moved out of S.T.A.R. Labs in a truck with the other meta-humans.

Leonard then explained that he allowed them to escape in order to recruit them into the Rogues.[8]

Attacking Monument Point

Despite this, The Flash and Firestorm managed to defeat Mardon and save Monument Point, though Mardon escaped.[9]

Working with the Trickster

Some months later, during the midst of the holiday season for Central City, Mark created a snowstorm and attacked Iron Heights, freeing Leonard Snart and James Jesse. After escaping the prison, Mark brought them to an abandoned toy factory and tried to convince them to help him kill The Flash, confident in their numbers, different skills, and knowledge of Barry's vicious defeat at Zoom's hands, leading him to believe the Scarlet Speedster was weak and vulnerable. Leonard (perhaps owing Barry after the latter saved his sister) decided to step out, instead choosing to warn Barry of their plans for the Flash.[10]

Barry quickly caught up and used the Wand, causing Mardon to crash to the ground.[10]

Patty Spivot arrived, about to kill him as vengeance for her father, but with some convincing from Barry, decided to arrest him instead.[10]

Mardon created several tornadoes and fought an exhausting fight with the Flash, but he was defeated when the Flash threw a lightning bolt at him at the same time that Mardon was throwing a lightning bolt of his own at the speedster. The resulting explosion knocked Mardon out and he was arrested again.[11]

However, this timeline was later erased when Barry traveled back in time and altered events, which caused Hartley to turn good and make amends with Team Flash. Thus, he never formed the team and Mardon remained in prison.[12]

Reunited with his daughter

In 2018, Iron Heights is hit by a freak lightning storm that disabled the meta dampeners, forcing the new warden to quickly place meta cuffs on the meta inmates. At the time when Barry Allen, Iris West-Allen and Nora West-Allen were visiting to see if any inmates had escaped, suddenly, Mardon's daughter Joslyn broke into the meta wing, brandishing a staff powered by meta tech that granted her powers similar to Mardon's. Unaware that she intended to kill him for abandoning his family, the Flash whisked to S.T.A.R. Labs.

As Joslyn threatened to destroy the city if Mardon wasn't handed over to her, the Flash interrogated Mardon over his relationship with his daughter. Later, Team Flash attempted to use a hologram of Mark controlled by Iris West-Allen to draw Joslyn out. However, this failed when Joslyn attempted to attack the hologram, exposing their trick.

After the Flash defeated Joslyn, Mardon was returned to Iron Heights.[3]

Personality

"This is between us. Nobody else needs to get hurt."
"But they are going to get hurt."
Joe West and Mark Mardon[src]

Unlike Clyde, Mark is the more mature and sensible of the two siblings, his anger is mostly fueled by a desire for vengeance, but he does not bear the inherent psychological mindset of a killer as his first inclination is not towards killing. That said - this does not negate his capacity for cruelty under incendiary circumstances, he appears to be aggressive and confrontational with anyone he meets, such as attempting to pick a fight with Kyle Nimbus for no apparent reason.

In Mark's quest for revenge - he wanted Joe West to suffer first - such that he created a tsunami with his weather powers to destroy Central City and to kill Joe's daughter, Iris, so that he would know the immense pain of grief which Mark felt upon losing his brother.

Mark loved his brother very much and was devastated by Clyde's death as well as upset with himself about his inability to protect him, for Mark felt it was his responsibility to look after Clyde, however, he did not let his love for Clyde bias his judgment and make excuses for his late brother's behavior; Mark was sane enough to fully acknowledge it was indeed flawed. He is also confident, believing that working with a team can defeat the Flash and even when Patty held him at gun point, he laughed and told her she didn't have it in her to shoot him.

In the erased timeline, where Mark joined Hartley Rathaway's team, Rathaway noted him to be easily persuaded, He also commented that Mark wanted badly to lead the team, and that the only reason Mark was still on the team was because he saw an opportunity to potentially overthrow Rathaway and become the new leader.

Powers and abilities

"And both brothers survived the plane crash, and then the dark matter released from the particle accelerator explosion affects them both in virtually the same way"
"Yeah, only Mark's power seem to be a lot more precise. To be able to control the weather like that, indoors?"
"You'd have to be a Weather Wizard.
"
Harrison Wells, Barry Allen and Cisco Ramon[src]

Powers

  • Meta-human physiology: After Mark was struck by the energy of the particle accelerator explosion, this altered his DNA and supercharged his cells, augmenting his physiology access his new abilities.
    • Atmokinesis: After he was caught in the particle accelerator's explosion's shock-wave, Mark gained the power to create and manipulate the weather. However, unlike Clyde, Mark's new-found powers are far more precise and potent, allowing him to miniaturize his weather to any size, to the point where he could create a small tornado on his palm, as well as have full control of the shape and form of his weather. He is also able to control it indoors and likewise able to affect a much larger radius than his late brother. He created tennis-ball sized hailstones to attack the Central City coroner in the morgue, summoned a devastating lightning strike inside the police precinct that put Captain Singh in critical condition in the hospital, and created a massive tidal wave that potentially would have destroyed Central City had it made landfall. He also was able to create a snowstorm and use it to attack Iron Heights Prison.
      • Aerokinesis: Mark can create powerful air currents, as well as storm clouds tornadoes, at any size. He could create small windstorms from his hands and use them as weapons. He can effortlessly throw someone aside using wind.
        • Flight: By creating drafts of wind underneath him, Mark can keep himself aloft and fly through the air at considerable speeds.
      • Cryokinesis: Mark can freeze air molecules and create destructive balls of ice.
      • Electrokinesis: Mardon is able to create and summon lightning and other electrical phenomena, even being able to hold it in his hand and aim it at a target.
      • Hydrokinesis: Mardon used this ability to create a tsunami to attack Monument Point.[9]
      • Thermokinesis: Mark can alter the temperature of his surroundings with his mind.

Abilities

  • Keen intellect/Skilled tactician: Mark has shown to have an adept mind for strategy and knowledge of the criminal underworld, as he recognized Kyle Nimbus as a hitman and knew about his failed execution. He masterminded a jailbreak solo to recruit Leonard Snart and James Jesse for his scheme to kill the Flash. However, he can acknowledge other people's intellect are superior to his own as he recruited Snart for his insider knowledge of the Flash (although Snart refused to work with him).[10]
  • Skilled Interrogator/Torturer: Mark managed to torture the coroner with no trouble and intimidated him enough for him to reveal that it was Joe West that killed Clyde.
  • Expert pilot: Mark knows how to fly planes.

Weaknesses

  • Wizard's Wand: The wand sucks in Mark's powers by neutralizing the surrounding particles that he could use to create weather.[1] However, in Mardon's hands, this device can also be used to channel his powers more precisely.[10]
  • Power-dampening tech: Mark's powers could not work while he was imprisoned in the S.T.A.R. Labs Pipeline and the meta-human wing of Iron Heights Prison.
