Michelle Amar, also known as Murmur is a member of the Rogues and an ally of the Red Death.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Michelle Amar was once a med student, but she went crazy and started a killing spree. During the time she became a serial killer, she also stitched her own mouth shut like the original Murmur, and learned Sign Language in order to communicate. At some point, she was recruited by Red Death to join her Rogues, to help her in take down the Flash and build a Cosmic Treadmill. The villain also gave Amar knives made with technology from Wayne Enterprises, transforming her into the second Murmur.[1]

Later, Amar and Owen Mercer infiltrated a military base to steal a power source for the Cosmic Treadmill. Entering the base, Amar fought Hartley Rathaway aka Pied Piper, before from being confronted by the Flash and his Rogue Squad. The Red Death then appeared and rushed Amar and the others out of the battle along with the power source.[1]

After the Flash's capture, Amar and the Rogues attempted to learn his identity behind the mask, before being interrupted by Mark Blaine. When Mark betrayed Red Death, Amar along with the other Rogues; Andrea Wozzeck and Roy Bivolo, fought Blaine while the Flash and Iris West escaped, with the hero's last view seeing was Amar and the others killing Blaine.[2]

It turns out that Mark was alive, just knocked out, and after Flash and his team escaped Red Death's lair, Amar and the others chained Mark up and went to CCPD to start their citywide invasion. After Barry convinced Gorilla Grodd to turn on Red Death, they combined their powers and overloaded the satellite dish that Amar and Mercer were standing next to. This caused the dish to explode and knock both of them out. What happened to Amar after this is unknown, but it can be assumed that she was placed back in Iron Heights prison.[3]

Abilities[]

  • Master hand-to-hand combatant: Amar is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant and martial artist.[1]
  • Master knife-wielder: Amar is highly skilled at using a knife in combat; as seen in her fight with Hartley Rathaway.[1]
  • Sign language: Amar is able to communicate through signing words with her hands as a result of being mute.[1]

    Amar wears a protective black suit with a rag doll mask as her alter-ego Murmur, to hide her identity from her enemies.[1]
  • Nanocircuit Knives: Michelle's knives are able to cut into her victims in a way of leaving almost no trace of the filings on the bodies.[1]

  • Amar seems to get along with Owen, whom can understand her signs.
  • She is not without a sense of humor; having made fun of of the Chillblaine suit for lacking a shirt.

Behind the scenes[]

  • In the DC comics, Michael Amar aka Murmur is an enemy of The Flash and a member of the Rogues. He was a doctor-turned-serial-killer, suffering from schizophrenia and going insane due to the voices in his head. Eventually, he went on a killing spree and involuntarily confessed his crimes. Murmur cut out his own tongue and sewed his mouth shut after his arrest to prevent incriminating himself again in the future. He also has a uniquely toxic blood type that makes him immune to euthanization and allows synthesizing of a virus out of it.
  • Michelle Amar/Murmur, who is deaf, is played by deaf actress Alexandria Wailes.
