Trivia[]

  • This is the last episode of The Flash:
    • To feature Jesse L. Martin (Joe West) as a series regular.
    • To credit Jon Cor (Mark Blaine) as a guest star, as he will be a series regular in the next season.
    • To be presented in matted widescreen format. The series would transition to letterbox format starting with the next episode.
  • As of this episode, The Flash has surpassed Arrow as having the most episodes of any series in the Arrowverse.
  • Thawne's fate is a nod to the events of "Legacy".
  • During the episode's final scene, a flashforward to 2049 is shown with the calendar reading June 29, the airdate of this episode.
  • This episode's events are nearly identical to the events in “Armageddon Part 5”. The difference is Barry refused to let Team Flash change his mind about Thawne’s fate this time.
  • Thawne imploding from absorbing too much of the Negative Forces is a callback to the comics, where it's fatal to mix a minimum of two forces.
    • This isn't the case in this multiverse for Barry as the Still, Sage and Strength Forces were all born from Iris and himself when they revived the Speed Force.
  • Too much Negative Forces channeled through an avatar can deeply affect their personality. Thawne possessing Nash Wells showed an incredibly bloodthirsty change in his personality when just Negative tachyons, but subsided when he regained a true body. With all four Negative Forces, Thawne outright loses any deeper reason beyond simple death and mayhem.
  • The unknown persona who emerges from the chamber appears to be neither Caitlin nor Frost, but a blend between their separate personas. (Though she still inhabits Caitlin's body, strictly speaking.)
  • Thawne snapping Fast Track back to prehistoric times references her actress, Kausar Mohammed's voice-lent role in Camp Cretaceous.
  • Barry calls his nemesis by his last name, but referred to his good time remnant by his given name; Barry himself never used Eobard's name in any capacity prior so he does this to differentiate the two.
    • Ironically, Harry Wells had the habit of calling people by their last names which Thawne also did occasionally.
