"A rare promethium alloy, the kind used by a handful of black market weapons manufacturers?" - —Emiko to Oliver Queen[src]
Promethium is a rare metal alloy in the multiverse.
History[]
Earth-1[]
The bullet used to kill Emiko Adachi's mother was made from promethium.[1]
Earth-38[]
Following a fight with Metallo, Superman had Kelex scan his hand for residual materials. Learning that it was promethium, J'onn J'onzz had Winn Schott trace the element to find Metallo.[2]
Earth-Prime[]
Harrison Nash Wells suggested using depleted promethium in order to complete the device used to defeat the Anti-Monitor.[3]
When Gravedigger used Lightning to disable the A.S.A.'s energy shield, a power surge caused the bedrock under Freeland to irradiate, transmuting the minerals into promethium. The A.S.A. then repurposed the tunnels underground.
Monovista International later began operating in Freeland, wishing to use the newly created promethium deposits in their weapons. One of their employees, Lauren Caruso, used promethium in her DEGs and, after Peter Gambi lamented on using it once again for the new version, Caruso revealed her secret vault of promethium to him.[4]
Peter Gambi and Lauren Caruso later discovered the A.S.A.'s series of tunnels, finding that it contained vast amounts of promethium; they deduced that Caruso's employer had chosen Freeland in order to use it.[5]
Gambi and Caruso, aided by Anissa Pierce, continued their investigation into Monovista and the emitter used to disable the powers of Black Lightining and his allies. They realised it was powered with promethium, and Lynn Stewart offered that they could track the emitter using Val Seong's metagenetic signature, as the emitter was using her power-nullifying ability, bypassing the camouflage on the promethium. Jefferson later arrived and expressed his wish to mindwipe Tobias Whale, thereby solving their problems. Lynn then suggested using the promethium Gambi stole from Monovista to do so, as he had none of his powers to accomplish the task.[6]
Jefferson charges promethium from the ground to gets his powers back and break through the grave he was buried in after he was "killed" by Tobias.[7]

- Promethium is known to be radioactive.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
- In the DC comics, Promethium is a metal alloy invented by Steve Dayton, being used by Cyborg as part of his cyborg body and Deathstroke for his armor and weapons.[8]
- In the comics, Promethium can either be depleted or volatile, the former of which has appeared in the Arrowverse.
- In real life, some signal lights use a luminous paint containing a phosphor that absorbs the beta radiation emitted by promethium-147 and emits light.[9]
