"The multiverse has a way of aligning fates...It's written in the stars and in this book, or I wouldn't know that on this Earth, Clark Kent is Superman. Where I come from, that would be ridiculous. He can't see past his glasses." This article is about the object set in the Lucifer universe. This article only contains information relevant to the Arrowverse. For information regarding that universe, please see Devil Card. |
- "Take this card. You'll have a limited time once inside purgatory, and once the picture completely fades—"
"Our souls wil be decimated; blah, blah, blah."
"And trapped in eternity forever; so I don't recommend it." - —Lucifer Morningstar and John Constantine[src]
At some point, Lucifer Morningstar created this card that could temporarily transport mortals to purgatory.
History[]
- "So why do we take a detour to another parallel Earth?"
"With so many Earths already gone, the pillars of magic are crumbling, leaving me the worse for wear; so, I can't get us into purgatory. But, don't worry squire; luckily, I know a guy." - —John Diggle and John Constantine discuss taking a trip to Earth-666 while trying to get to purgatory.[src]
After resurrecting Oliver Queen in a Lazarus Pit, and finding that the magic ritual John Constantine would've used to go to purgatory to retrieve Oliver's soul couldn't work properly due to the Crisis and the antimatter wave continuing to flood through the multiverse,[1] John needed another way to get to that plane of existence in order to fully restore Oliver's soul to his body.
At some point, John had helped Lucifer Morningstar of Earth-666 out with something regarding Maze; leaving Lucifer in Constantine's debt. With Oliver's daughter Mia and the former's good friend John Diggle accompanying him, John traveled to Los Angeles of Earth-666 to collect on the favor Lucifer owed him. Lucifer gave them the card, mentioning that they'd have to get back out of purgatory before the card's picture faded fully; otherwise they'd be trapped in that realm forever.
The card sent the trio to Oliver's purgatory (which took the form of the island of Lian Yu), and began fading as soon as they arrived there.
While they did manage to find Oliver and make him remember who they were (due to the fact that, as Constantine explained, when Oliver's soul wound up in purgatory, his memories would've become disoriented), they ultimately couldn't get Oliver to come back with them, due to the fact that a Spectre named Jim Corrigan showed up and explained that Oliver becoming a new Spectre was the only way to save the multiverse. Moments later, Jim teleported Diggle, Mia and Constantine back to the Waverider. The latter then tucked the card away in his coat.[2]

Behind the scenes[]
- "I'm afraid I can't offer anything obvious; like a tail as proof."
"And so no horns."
"No, afraid not. That's the stuff of movies and TV. They always get it wrong." - —Lucifer Morningstar and Chloe Decker discuss the way he actually looks.
- As Lucifer Morningstar once mentioned on Lucifer, the picture of the devil as shown on this card is actually an inaccurate depiction of the devil's physical appearance. At one point, when Lucifer was trying to convince Chloe Decker that he was in fact the devil, he explained that humans always misinterpret the way the devil looks, as he doesn't actually have horns and a tail.[3]
- Even though the horns and tail are incorrect, the card does have an accurate recreation of Lucifer's devil face from the series.
- This card's illustration of the of the devil playing the piano is likely a reference to Lucifer's skill as a pianist.
