"I'm just a man trying to do the right thing. Make my son proud."
—Quincy P. Runk[src]

Quincy P. Runk (died December 5, 1998) was the father of Chester P. Runk and the son of Gertrud Runk.

Biography[]

Early life[]

On July 5, 1991, Quincy had a son, Chester Phineas Runk. As time went on, he lived with his mother, Gertrud Runk, and Chester in Masonville. Quincy would sometimes leave Chester technology he could use in the garbage so his son could learn to be resourceful and a problem solver. Quincy also put most of his time in his work in order to be able to give Chester the best life he could give him, causing him to not spend a lot of time with his son.[1]

Original timeline[]

On December 4, 1998, Quincy went to buy the last X-76 power converter, because Chester needed it for a project. Quincy threw it in the garbage so his son could find it. The next day, Quincy died in a car accident on his way to a big meeting in Coast City.[1]

Current timeline[]

In the current timeline, Quincy still bought the last X-76 power converter, but was later confronted by "John Boyega", an older version of Chester who was sent back in time together with Cisco Ramon by Deon Owens. The older version of Chester wanted to buy the converter from Quincy, but Quincy couldn't sell the converter, as he needed to throw it in the garbage so the young version of Chester could find it for his own project.[1]

After explaining to Chester about how he's trying to parent, they share a hug much to Quincy's confusion. Quincy then helped Chester repair the isotope detection system to make up for not being able to sell the converter to Chester. The next day, Quincy still died in a car accident.[1]

Legacy[]

"I don't believe in quitting."
—Chester P. Runk quoting Quincy P. Runk[src]

Chester returned to 2020 after the time-displaced adventure with a better understanding and appreciation of his father, and began working on a project of Quincy's from blueprints Chester had kept:[1] the Solar Encryption Engine, which helped during Team Flash's war against Godspeed.[2][3]

In 2021, a non-profit organization was created by Ray Palmer to fund young scientists, naming it in honor of Quincy much to Chester's joy.[4][5]

In 2022, Deathstorm used Quincy's likeness to psychologically torture Chester. However, Chester countered by imagining that Quincy would be proud of his son working at S.T.A.R. Labs and helping the Flash.[6][7]

Abilities[]

  • Genius-level intellect/Master engineer: Just like Chester, Quincy is a genius engineer, being able to create his own technological inventions and even help repair the isotope detection system without using the X-76 power converter Chester thought he needed.[1]
