"You may serve the Speed Force, Flash, but I rule it. You are only a man, but I am a god. Your god. I am Savitar!"
—Savitar to the Flash[src]

"Savitar" is a speedster with a metallic appearance and is the master of Dr. Alchemy, dubbing himself as the "God of Speed." He was also called the Dark Lord by an Acolyte of his cult.

Biography

Savitar attacking Edward Clariss

Savitar attacks Edward Clariss in prison.

After the Rival failed, Alchemy scolded him and then Savitar entered his cell at Iron Heights in the meta-human wing and attacked him.[1] He was able to enter despite the cell being a meta-human power dampener and use his powers fully. Upon investigation, Barry, Joe and Julian discovered that Savitar killed the Rival the night he was incarcerated, but could only see him as a flying ball of light.[2]

In an effort to lure Alchemy into a trap, Team Flash and a CCPD strike team followed secretly behind Wally West as he approached Alchemy about his visions of Flashpoint. Wally stalled Alchemy long enough for the police and Team Flash to storm the hideout and Alchemy and his cohorts were surrounded and shackled. Flash triumphantly stood before Alchemy and went to unmask him. Just as he was about to do so, an earthquake shook the hideout and suddenly a small blip of light began racing around the hideout, killing all of the cops and freeing Alchemy's followers, at which point Flash realized that it was a speedster. The being was pursued by the Flash, but its speed was far beyond his and eventually Barry was brought down instead. As Wally West was trapped in a cocoon-like container, the mysterious speedster pinned a distracted Flash to a wall, though when Joe looked at them, Savitar was invisible to him. As the Flash finally beheld his armoured foe, he asked him who he was, to which the speedster replied that his name was Savitar, the god of speed. Savitar then produced a blade from his gauntlet and prepared to finish off the Flash.[3]

Luckily, the Flash was saved at the last second by the timely intervention of Joe West who managed to shake off his attackers and opened fire on Savitar even though he couldn't actually see the speedster. The bullets however deflected harmlessly off Savitar's armour. Ignoring the interruption, Savitar raced out of the lair with the Flash in hand and proceeded to drag, pummel and throw him all across Central City like a rag-doll, somehow managing to jump from one spot to another in less than nanoseconds at a time, finally coming to a stop at the waterfront, whereupon Savitar began to mercilessly pulverise his quarry at speeds once believed impossible. As the Flash lay broken and bleeding at his feet, Savitar declared the Flash to be beneath him and announced that he (Savitar) was the future while the Flash was the past. Having said this, he grabbed the Flash by the throat and prepared to once again skewer the speedster with his gauntlet-blade. Before he could do so however, the Flash was saved by the sudden arrival of Vibe and Caitlin Snow, who used her ice-powers to freeze Savitar in place and reveal him at the same time but inadvertently harming the Flash too. The ice though did not last long and Savitar soon burst out of his ice-prison and sped off.

Looking to reform his power-base, Savitar sought out his most loyal disciple Alchemy, who was revealed to be the metahuman CSI Julian Albert and asked him to reaffirm his dedication to ensuring Savitar's successful return.

Powers and abilities

Powers

  • Speed Force connection: Though it remains unclear as to what is the nature of his connection to the Speed Force, his control and power in its usage vastly exceeds all other known users. To which, his potency made him claim to be a god and the "ruler" of it.
    • Body vibration: When Savitar was incased in sub-zero ice, he was able to almost instantly break free from his confinement.[3]
    • Electrokinesis: While moving, he emanates white lightning.[3]
    • Enhanced perceptions: Savitar is easily capable of keeping up with and perceiving the movements and actions of speedsters.
    • Superhuman agility: Savitar possesses inhuman bodily coordination, balance, equilibrium, and dexterity. He is able to change direction immediately, thus allows him to make sharp turns and easily maneuver while moving at immense speed.[3]
    • Superhuman reflexes: Savitar possesses superhuman reflexes, allowing him to easily react to other speedsters.
    • Superhuman speed: Savitar is unfathomably fast, so much so that he's totally invisible to the human eye while running.[4] He can also rumble the ground with his speed.[3] His speed allowed him to race around Alchemy's lair and instantly kill multiple cops in milliseconds. Only Barry was able to see anything.[3] Despite Barry's own speed greatly exceeding all other speedsters that came before him, his own movements were still slow-motion in comparison to Savitar, who effortlessly countered and outmaneuvered the Flash. He was also able to get into Edward Clariss's prison cell, despite his cell containing a meta-human power dampener, and fully use his powers once inside.[2]
      • Dimensional Travel: Savitar's speed is so intense, with a sudden movement he can open breaches, enabling him to shift and warp about and appear out of nowhere. Combined with his raw speed, the actions can appear as if he is at multiple places at once.
      • Superhuman momentum: Savitar can generate great amounts of physical force through the kinetic energy his immense speed generates.
    • Superhuman stamina: Savitar's body can handle the stresses of superhuman racing without noticeable distress.[3]
    • Superhuman strength: Savitar possesses a level of increased strength, able to lift a full-grown man off the ground, holding them up by their throats, and pinning them to walls, all with a single hand.[1][3]
    • Telepathy: Savitar was able to telepathically communicate with his servants, as he did to Julian Albert.

Abilities

  • Leadership: Savitar is able to lead a cult of his own as a worshiped deity. At the same time, he was able to stealthily hide his involvement for long periods of time, fooling all into believing Alchemy was the true leader.

Weaknesses

  • Extreme cold: Much like any other speedster, Savitar seems to be weakened or at least momentarily stunned when exposed to an extremely cold environment. This was proven when Caitlin Snow used her metahuman freezing powers on an invisible Savitar. However, his powers allowed him to shortly afterwards break free and recover enough to zip away.

Equipment

  • Armor: Savitar wears some form of armor, though it's unknown if it is something he's actually wearing or if he is made out of it. The armor is also able to produce a blade from it's left gauntlet. Savitar's Armor seems to be bulletproof[3][4]

Trivia

  • Savitar is the first speedster to be capable of opening dimensional breaches to different locations on the same Earth.
  • Savitar is the first speedster to be able to move so fast that he becomes invisible. Though how he is accomplishing the feet is still unknown.

Behind the scenes

  • In DC comics, Savitar was an enemy of Wally West as the Flash, an ex-pilot obsessed with speed, who named himself after Savitr, the Hindu god of motion, and dedicated his life to unlocking the secrets of the Speed Force. He discovered creative ways of using the Speed Force and tried to kill every other speedster on Earth, transferring their Speed Force connections onto himself.
    • Similarly to how it's depicted in The Flash TV series, Savitar was able to use the Speed Force to make himself invisible to non-speedsters in the comics.
