Bartholomew Henry "Barry" Allen (March 14, 1989 - May 24, 2017) was a time remnant of the original Barry Allen that became a powerful armored speedster known as Savitar. Savitar's existence is the cause of a causal loop that involved the death of Iris West, as after he was created the time remnant was shunned by the members of Team Flash. Broken and utterly alone for not being the original Barry Allen, Savitar desired to end his pain by becoming a god; thus he renamed himself after the Hindu God of Motion. As Savitar, he has proclaimed himself to be the "God of Speed", the fastest known speedster in the Multiverse; additionally he is known as the "Dark Lord" by an acolyte of his cult. When battling a younger version of his original self, Savitar subtly refers to himself as the "Future Flash". When possessing someone, Savitar is known as "Alchemy", the high-priest of his own cult.

Desiring to kill his original self, Savitar was defeated and trapped in the Speed Force by Barry. Spending an eternity inside the Speed Force, he planned his escape by tricking Wally West into taking his place in the Speed Force prison allowing him to resume his war with the Flash and kill Iris West to ensure his existence.

Savitar later forms an alliance with Killer Frost during which his identity and the origin of his existence become known to Team Flash. Savitar then murders H.R. Wells who disguised himself as "Iris" thus causing him to slowly be erased from existence. He later continues his ascension towards godhood by having Cisco Ramon modify the Speed Force bazooka in order to split himself through time and exist through every moment of history but his plan fails and after a brief battle he was killed by Iris before being erased from existence.

Biography

Origin

Savitar's existence is the result of a causal loop in which he has no beginning or end but only an endless series of events that lead to his creation. Beginning in a post-Flashpoint timeline after the death of Iris West by Savitar, Barry Allen created time remnants to help him stop Savitar, however, Savitar slaughters most of them but spared only one time remnant to live; as this time remnant was to become Savitar at some point in the future. After his creation, the time remnant was shunned by Team Flash because he was an Aberration and not the real Barry. Alone and overwhelmed by his painful memories, he became desperate to end his pain eventually coming to a realization that "God" feels no pain and he eventually decided to become one himself.

Barry's time remnant created the myth that he is the first and most powerful speedster in the Multiverse.

At some point the time remnant found the Philosopher's Stone and attained a mechanical suit of armor, both which became a part of his power and eventually named himself Savitar, the "God of Speed". Worshipped and revered for his power, Savitar had a cult founded around him. Spreading the myth of his power, Savitar went back in time and spread his legend throughout the Multiverse and across time. With the lie of his power being the first speedster to ever be granted power to the Speed Force, eventually becoming the fastest out of all of them who desired to challenge other powerful speedsters who threatened his power to battle before taking over their Earths. Before each encounter, Savitar would use the Philosopher's Stone power to possess a person and use them a medium under the alias "Alchemy" to prepare for arrival by creating meta-humans for him to command.

Desiring revenge on the original Barry, for shunning him for being a aberration he traveled to 2020 where the two fought during which Savitar killed all the time remnants but spared the one that would eventually become him thus continuing the loop of his existence. However, to his surprise, Barry was able to defeat Savitar by imprisoning him inside the Speed Force, during which Savitar was stuck in a time loop in which he relived the most painful moment of his life driving him further into insanity; thus wanting him to destroy his original self's life even further.

Preparation for freedom from the Speed Force

While he was imprisoned in the Speed Force, Barry sensed a dramatic shift in the timeline that resulted from his past 'main' self from 2016, creating the Flashpoint timeline. Realizing that he could use the situation to his advantage, Barry waited until the timeline was restored to its previous form and began to enact his plan. After the Flashpoint has been erased, due to his past 'main' self and Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash actions, creating the Post-Flashpoint timeline, he telepathically appeared to Julian Albert in the form of his deceased sister Emma and told him of the Philosopher's Stone, claiming it could bring "her" back to him. Julian spent years searching for it and in 2012 funded an exhibition in India and found the container it was sealed within. After opening it however Savitar was released and possessed Julian and killed the other members of the exhibition. While Julian tried to escape Savitar by fleeing to America he continually possessed Julian and he unwillingly became the newest Alchemy. For the next few years Savitar, as Alchemy, sought out followers for his cult, seeking to slay a younger, less powerful version of him. He also somehow became aware of the Flashpoint timeline and all the meta-humans from it, which unintentionally provided him the means for his return.

Under his Alchemy guise Savitar began seeking out individuals who were meta-humans in Flashpoint and restored their memories and extorted them into find him. Once they did Barry promised to restore their power in exchange for their loyalty. He did this to Shade and Clive Yorkin. Barry then sought out Frankie Kane, a teenage girl with dissociation identity disorder, and restored her memories of Flashpoint and told her to find him. Once she did Alchemy offered to restore her powers in exchange for her service. While Frankie was reluctant her other personality "Magenta" agreed and Alchemy restored her powers.

Barry then communicated with Edward Clariss, who was a speedster named "The Rival" in Flashpoint, and restored his memories of his Flashpoint life and told him to find him. Once Clariss arrived, he begged Savitar to make the visions stop but Savitar asked if he really wanted the visions to stop, or if he wanted them to come true and to have speed once more. Clariss confessed that he did and Savitar promised to restore his power, in exchange for his loyalty and using the stone on Clariss, he became "The Rival" once more.

Alchemy observed as The Rival fought The Flash which ended in a draw, though The Flash was unaware Alchemy was watching them. Later when The Flash confronted The Rival at the Prescott Sawmill, Alchemy attacked The Flash and upon being asked what he wanted, he claimed to be helping people achieve their potential because he was preparing the world. The Rival then fought The Flash again but was defeated by the combined power of him and Vibe. When Clariss was incarcerated in Iron Heights Prison, Savitar scolded him for his failure and Clariss begged for a second chance, but Savitar appeared inside his cell and attacked him. After tossing him around he struck a fatal blow that killed Clariss before he hit the ground.

Later after nearly killing her abusive foster father Magenta approached Alchemy, angry that Frankie continued to resurface as Alchemy promised her freedom from Frankie and her foster father. Alchemy told Magenta if she wanted Frankie gone she'd have to show her that she was in control, and this led to Magenta almost destroying a hospital full of innocent people to get revenge on her foster father. However, Frankie was talked out of it by Barry and she left Central City as a result.

Future Barry then sought out Wally and restored his memories of Flashpoint. Knowing Barry would do all he could to prevent Wally from finding him Savitar sent Shade after him as a distraction, while he communicated with Wally and urged him to seek him out. When Wally locked himself in the pipeline Savitar began torturing him to persuade him, to no avail. When Shade was captured Savitar simply began torturing Wally more intensely until he eventually sought him out.

First encounter with the Flash again

In an effort to lure Alchemy into a trap, Team Flash and a CCPD strike team followed secretly behind Wally West as he approached Alchemy about his visions of Flashpoint. Wally stalled Alchemy long enough to allow the police and Flash to storm the hideout. Alchemy and his cohorts were subsequently surrounded and shackled. Flash triumphantly stood before Alchemy and went to unmask him. Just as he was about to do so, an earthquake shook the hideout and suddenly a small blip of light began racing around the hideout, killing all of the cops and freeing Alchemy's followers. Realizing the blip of light was a speedster The Flash attempted to pursue it but it's speed was far beyond his, and Barry was brought down instead. As Wally West became trapped in a cocoon-like container, the mysterious speedster pinned a distracted Flash to a wall, revealing itself to be clad entirely in metallic armour. As the Flash finally beheld his armoured foe he demanded to know its identity to which it responded that its name was Savitar, the god of speed. Savitar then produced a long curved blade from his gauntlet and prepared to finish off the Flash.

Luckily, the Flash was saved at the last second by the timely intervention of Joe West who managed to shake off his attackers and opened fire on Savitar even though he couldn't actually see the speedster. The bullets however deflected harmlessly off Savitar's armour. Ignoring the interruption, Savitar raced out of the lair with the Flash in hand and proceeded to drag, pummel and throw him all across Central City like a rag-doll by somehow using his speed to open up dimensional breaches to various locations around Central City, finally coming to a stop at the waterfront, whereupon Savitar began to savagely beat down his quarry. As the Flash lay broken and bleeding at his feet, Savitar declared the Flash to be beneath him and announced that he (Savitar) was the future while the Flash was the past. Having said this, he grabbed the Flash by the throat and prepared to once again skewer the speedster with his gauntlet-blade. Before he could do so however, the Flash was saved by the sudden arrival of Vibe and Caitlin Snow, who used her ice-powers to freeze Savitar in place and reveal him at the same time but inadvertently harming the Flash too. The ice though did not last long and Savitar soon burst out of his ice-prison and sped off.

Later Savitar sought out Julian while he was in the hospital though he told Savitar to stay away from him but Savitar confronted him anyway, telling him that only together could his return be achieved. Savitar then possessed Julian and at the C.C.P.D. took retrieved his Alchemy outfit to continue his plan.

Fighting the Flashes

With Julian resuming his Alchemy persona, Savitar prepared once again to target the Flash. He ordered Alchemy to use a specially designed building in Central City to refract the energies from the Philosopher's Stone and bestow powers on all the metahumans in Central City from the Flashpoint timeline at once. Their efforts were interrupted once again by the arrival of two Flashes; Barry having joined forces with the Earth Three veteran speedster Jay Garrick. Before they could do anything to Alchemy, Savitar appeared out of nowhere. While Barry dealt with Alchemy, Garrick squared off against Savitar but was completely outmatched by the metallic speedster, who viciously pummeled, threw around and beat down the elder speedster all across Central City, finally coming to a stop in an alley. Savitar angrily told Garrick that this was not his fight and unsheathed his gauntlet blade to kill him. Garrick was saved however when Barry sealed the Philosophers Stone back in its chest, causing Savitar to disappear into thin air.

Looking to continue the fight, Savitar chose to bide his time in order to figure out a way back. He began telepathically manipulating Cisco Ramon using an image of his dead brother Dante to convince him that the Philosopher's Stone could bring him back. Entranced by the stone's power, Cisco opened the chest, releasing Savitar once again just as the the Earth One Flash arrived in Cisco's lab. Savitar then seized the Flash and brought him to the Star Labs speed lab whereupon he began to mercilessly beat up the Flash yet again. As he did so, he was stalled by the sudden arrival of Wally who went to attack him but was merely seized by the throat by Savitar and thrown across the room into Barry. As the two speedsters lay defeated on the ground, Savitar unsheathed both of his wrist blades and moved to kill them both. He was however prevented from doing so at the last second when Caitlin convinced Cisco to accept his brother's death and close the chest containing the Stone, sealing Savitar away again.

Fuming from his latest defeat and Alchemy's constant failures, Savitar suddenly felt Julian's consciousness connected to the Stone, established a psychic connection through him and found himself face-to-face with Team Flash. He berated them for not bowing to him only to be derided for his claims to be a god. Seeking to rattle them, Savitar revealed intimate knowledge of each of the Team Flash members as well as a chilling warning about their future; one would betray them, one would die and one would suffer a fate worse than death. The Flash demanded to know who Savitar really was and what he wanted to which Savitar responded that he wanted to take back everything that the Flash had taken from him before he would destroy him. Confused, Flash angrily asked why Savitar didn't follow through with his threats right away before realizing that without the Stone, he literally couldn't. Enraged, Savitar revealed the reason for his vendetta; that it was in fact a future version of Barry who had trapped him 'in eternity' and vowed that he would rise again. Disconcerted, Barry disconnected Julian from Savitar.

Escaping the Speed Force

Having regained possession of most of the Philosopher's Stone after the Flash threw it into the Speed Force, Savitar put the next phase of his escape plan into action. He began telepathically haunting Wally West to wear him down, which came to a head while he and Barry were out on a run and one of West's hallucinations actually attacked him. Desperate for answers, Team Flash opened up a line of communication to Savitar through Julian Albert and The Flash confronted his enemy once more. Savitar sardonically greeted Barry and his comrades but quickly rebuffed him when Barry argued that they were essentially the same, claiming that to him, Barry was the villain of their story. He revealed yet more intimate knowledge of the team such as Cisco's conversation with Reverb and H.R. Wells surviving his future rampage. Team Flash interrogated Savitar extensively about his plans and his past but got only cryptic answers and half-statements in response; when questioned about the origin of their feud by Barry, Savitar arrogantly derided both Thawne and Zoom, claiming that he was the Flash's ultimate foe. He did however reveal that he had taken back the Stone and declared that no matter what they did, they could not stop his return. As he rose to his feet, Savitar reaffirmed his intention to escape, kill Iris and destroy the Flash, mockingly bringing up Barry's dead parents. Fed up, Barry disconnected Julian from Savitar.

Savitar takes the form of Francine West.

Satisfied that almost everything in place, Savitar focused on getting the broken piece of the Philosopher's Stone. He telepathically linked to Wally once again, taking the form of West's deceased mother to torment him and pressured him into stealing the piece of the stone. West stole the piece from Star Labs and raced to an abandoned factory and manically tried to open a portal to the Speed Force but was held back by the power of the Stone. Savitar mocked West's efforts, reminding West that he would eventually kill everyone he loved. Incensed by Savitar's words, West successfully opened a Speed Force portal and threw the piece of the stone into it.

As Barry arrived on the scene, tendrils of white lightning seized West and pulled him into the Speed Force while breaking its hold on Savitar, who burst out of the portal roaring in triumph. Pacing around the Flash, Savitar revealed his full escape plan to Barry and declared that saving West was now impossible. Enraged, Barry charged Savitar and chased him into an alley. Though Barry angrily promised that he would kill him, Savitar mocked his threats, reminding that he was the hero who would never take a life, and declared him unworthy of the life Barry had been given and vowed to destroy Central City like he did in the future and attacked. This time, though Savitar remained dominant, the fight was more even-sided with both speedsters landing solid blows on the other, culminating in Barry seizing Savitar in a headlock, demanding he show his face. Savitar instead pivoted out of it and stabbed Barry through the shoulder with his gauntlet-blade, shattering his clavicle. Stating his intent to kill Barry, Savitar promised to let him live long enough to watch Iris die. Barry unexpectedly struck back by slicing off Savitar's blade with his vibrating hand. Roaring with anger, Savitar raced away. 

Savitar declares that he has big plans for Jesse Quick.

Savitar remained silent and out of sight for the time being, while Team Flash frantically searched for a way to rescue Wally from the speed force, in order to work on repairing his damaged armour. When he finished, he stepped back and observed from afar as Barry went back into the Speed Force to free Wally from his prison. While doing so, he suddenly felt the lost piece of his armour being reactivated and homing in on him. Racing to it, he found himself confronted by the Earth Two speedster Jesse Quick. He declared that he knew that she would come for him and reprimanded her for her claiming that she wasn't afraid of him. Angered, Quick recklessly attacked with a lightning bolt but Savitar inexplicably absorbed the bolt and fired it right back at Quick, sending her flying several feet. Savitar demanded the return of his severed gauntlet-blade and began telekinetically summoning it to him as Quick clung on to it and too was dragged towards him. Thinking quickly, HR instructed Quick to find and attack a weak spot in Savitar's armor. As Savitar seized Jesse by the neck and held her before him, he declared that he had big plans for her, his arrogance blinding him to the fact that Quick was still holding his gauntlet-blade. Retorting that she had plans too, Quick viciously plunged the blade into Savitar's shoulder through a gap in his armor. Bellowing in agony, Savitar dropped Jesse and raced away. Realizing that Savitar could feel pain, HR later informed Barry and the team that Savitar was not a God after all but an armoured man with super speed.

Savitar steered clear of the Flash and his team while recuperating from the injury dealt to him by Jesse Quick. When this was over, he sensed the resurgence of Killer Frost and went to meet her in a forest on the outskirts of Central City. When she arrived, Savitar greeted her amicably and promised her that he would ensure that Caitlin Snow would never return, though Frost was hesitant to believe him. To gain her trust, Savitar knelt down, removed his armor and revealed to her his true identity.

Anticipating that his past self would try to build the Speed Force trap sooner than was destined, Savitar ordered Killer Frost to find and kill Tracy Brand, the physicist who would go on to build the trap technology in the first place, though Frost was thwarted by the Flash and Vibe. When she returned to him having failed, Savitar chastised her for not living up to her title and mused aloud if there was still a part of the old Caitlin Snow having an influence on her but Killer Frost quickly rebuffed him. Rethinking his plan, Savitar next ordered her to kidnap Joe's girlfriend Cecil in order to force Team Flash's hand and trade Tracy for her. Knowing what the team would try to do instead, Savitar warned Killer Frost ahead of time of what Barry would say to try and sway her back as well as the trap that they planned for her. When the team managed to subdue her anyway, Savitar sped in as Vibe was taking a blood sample and swatted him away from her. Proclaiming that his ascension was almost complete, Savitar concluded with a reminder to Barry that before long, the Flash would fall. Having said this, Savitar picked up Frost and raced away with her .

With this latest encounter, Savitar knew it wouldn't be long before Flash figured out his true identity and raced to meet Flash on the outskirts of the city as Flash searched for him. Standing before his enemy, Barry declared that he had figured out who Savitar really was; that his ability to flawlessly predict the moves of Team Flash, his intimate knowledge of its members including Barry, were all because he had already lived it all himself. Declaring his relief, Savitar knelt down, removed his armor and revealed himself as none other than a future version of Barry with a pale and scarred face. Grinning ghoulishly at his younger-self, Savitar reiterated his infamous catchphrase, that he was the Future Flash.

The scarred Barry paced around his younger-self with a ghoulish smile on his face as he laid everything out in the open; that he was a time remnant created by Barry's future-self in 2020 whom Savitar had allowed to live before being sealed away. The remnant was rejected and shunned by his family and friends as a "fake", leaving him bitter and broken. Desperate to make the pain go away, the remnant was driven insane and strove to become a god, for which he went back in time to reinvent himself as Savitar, the original speedster, creating a perpetual cause and effect temporal loop. All that was left to complete the loop again was for Iris to die and a second element that the remnant didn't reveal. Present-Barry threatened to kill himself, but the remnant was undaunted, citing Eobard Thawne's survival as an example of how such action was futile and declaring his ascension nearly complete. Enraged, his younger-self charged the remnant and attempted to kill him, but was stopped by the self-operating armor which engaged the Present-Barry in a brief struggle. As Present-Barry punched it away, the remnant sped back into it and began charging up for a lightning attack as his younger self did the same. The two fired massive bolts of lightning at each other which caused a huge explosion, hurling the speedsters away from each other and allowing Savitar to escape.

Savitar loses his memories and attacks Killer Frost.

While preparing for his next move, Savitar was inexplicably stripped of all his memories as a result of Team Flash accidentally wiping all the memories his past self had, causing him to randomly attack Killer Frost when she tried to talk to him. After she fled, he remained in seclusion for a time until Team Flash undid the damage by restoring Barry's memories and by extension Savitar's.

Killing Iris

Savitar remained in his hideout in an abandoned warehouse and passed the time by repairing his suit of armor. As he was doing so, Killer Frost approached him, admiring the armor and remarking on them teaming up like they used to as Barry and Caitlin though Savitar was quick to remind her that neither of them were who they used to be. Frost pressed Savitar about his motivations for killing Iris who reiterated that she had to die otherwise he would never be born. Unconvinced, Frost spoke of his upbringing with Iris, citing it as possibly deterring him from ultimately killing her. Rising to his feet with an expression and voice full of rage and pain, Savitar coldly recounted being created as a disposable asset of the original Flash, nothing more than a cheap copy to be thrown away when no longer needed. He reasoned that if none of Team Flash cared about him, he shouldn't care about any of them. Disturbed, Savitar asked Frost to reiterate her commitment to the cause and re-prepare herself for what she would have to do. Suddenly, Savitar was hit by a fresh wave of new memories in which Flash met with Captain Cold in the past to steal a power source from A.R.G.U.S. for the weapon. When Frost inquired about it, Savitar waved it off as irrelevant and decided to let them take it, declaring a speed-gun to be no match for him.

As he prepared for the final confrontation, Savitar's plan was thrown off briefly when he suddenly realized that he did not know where Iris was since his past self had not been told either; she had in fact been spirited away to Earth Two with Joe and Wally. Determined to get things back on track, Savitar disguised himself in his old Flash uniform and raced into Star Labs were he met an unsuspecting Cisco, H.R. and Tracey. He told them that they had the Dominator power source and asked where Iris was. Without thinking, HR let slip that she was on Earth Two, too late to see Savitar turn to face them, revealing his scarred face and his true identity. As the team looked on in horror, H.R. could only choke out a single word before Savitar raced off to Earth Two.

As Joe, Wally and Harry stood ready, Savitar burst out of the breach in the Earth Two S.T.A.R. Labs in full armor. Immediately, Kid Flash charged him and landed a number of blows against the armored speedster before Savitar threw him against the ceiling, caught him as he fell and brutally broke Kid Flash's leg with one stomp and then tossed him aside. As Joe and Harry fired, Savitar silently exited his armor and appeared behind Joe, Harry and Iris. Looking into the maddened eyes of the man he raised as his own son, Joe attempted to reason with Savitar by apologizing for disregarding him in the future, referring to him as Barry. Savitar was unmoved, angrily stating that Barry was not his name. Iris promised to go with him but begged him not to kill the others, though Savitar claimed that he would only do so after they all watched her die. Joe begged Iris not to go but Savitar interrupted him, remarking that she had accepted her fate and that he should do the same. As Harry brandished a hidden gun, Savitar grabbed Iris and raced back to Earth One. He then chained up Iris in his lair and making a few adjustments on his suit until H.R. uses his blade to find Iris tied up until the blade flew from H.R.'s hand and fix itself back to his suit to which Savitar saw H.R. and Iris running towards the exit in which he ordered Killer Frost to get Iris. H.R. posing as Iris told Killer Frost to leave Iris alone in which H.R. took Iris's place while Iris manage to escaped safely.

He brought him to Infantino Street, where Barry as well as Joe and Tracy were lying in wait. Savitar challenged Barry to try and be a "hero" and let H.R. go. When he did, Barry went and used the Speed Force Bazooka on him. After avoiding a few shots, Savitar let himself be hit making everyone believe for a moment that it was going to work. Then Savitar burst free of the energy and revealed that he had the Philosopher's Stone which shielded him from the trap. Savitar then grabbed H.R. and told Barry that he sentenced him to an eternity of hell so he was giving him his. He then proclaimed that he was finally free of Barry and then brought out the spear from his armor. Barry tried to run to him and stop Savitar but he quickly stabbed H.R. through the back and killed him before speeding away, leaving Barry to cradle H.R.'s dead body in his arms while thought that it was the woman he loved dies in his arms only to be revealed that it was H.R. who took the fall.

After killing H.R and stealing the Speed Force Cannon, Savitar raced to Killer Frost and found her preparing to finish off Vibe and ordered her not to as he needed him for the next phase of his plan. At that moment, Savitar was hit by fresh memories of Iris alive and in horror realised that he had been tricked and had instead killed H.R. Wells, which according to Vibe changed the future to one in which Savitar was never created. Enraged, Savitar reminded Vibe that his future had now changed too.

Barry threatens to kill Killer Frost.

Upon returning to his lair in Mount Buccelato with Frost and Vibe, Savitar ordered Vibe to convert the Speed Force Cannon into an Interdimensional Quantum Splicer, which he would use in combination with a Speed Force Portal to fragment himself throughout all of time, making it impossible for the upcoming paradox to erase him from existence. All he needed was for Tracy to build the Cannon earlier than was intended which was why he allowed the Team Flash members to live. When Vibe refused to help him, Savitar threatened to kill Caitlin and taunted Vibe with the revelation that Julian had developed a cure for her. Left with no choice, Vibe relented.

Barry lets Iris touch his face.

While he waited for Vibe to finish, Savitar flashed a new memory of his past self waiting for him in a warehouse. Realising that this would give him the opportunity he needed, Savitar met with Barry. Barry implored Savitar to let him save him, citing a fond memory of their parents to get through to Savitar. Savitar pretended to be swayed by Barry's offer of help in order to be invited back to Star Labs. Once there, he was confronted by Team Flash who were all highly reluctant to help him especially Tracy Brand. Barry and Iris took Savitar aside where Savitar questioned them over what kind of life he would have if they saved him though they could not give any definitive answers. Eventually, Savitar appeared to agree and left to bring back Vibe and Frost but in reality took the Philosopher's Stone into the basement and set it to overload. As Flash and Kid Flash got everyone out, the stone exploded and obliterated the interior of the complex, giving Savitar the chance to escape. He returned to his lair as Vibe completed the Splicer and ordered Frost to kill him but Vibe was saved by Gypsy at the last second. Declaring them unimportant, Savitar picked up the Splicer and left to enact his master plan.

Black Flash attempts to erase Savitar.

Knowing that the Black Flash will try to kill him because of the paradox, Savitar and Frost went to a park on the outskirts of the city with the Speed Force Cannon in hand. Savitar opened a Speed Force portal filled with bursts of orange lightning, and explained to Killer Frost that the reason he had brought her along was because of what the Speed Force does to speedsters who mess with time. As expected, the Speed Force unleashed the Black Flash which appeared out of the portal. Frost fired off several shots at the spectral speedster but missed. As the Black Flash raced to them and lunged at Savitar, Frost fired again, hitting the Black Flash and disintegrating him. With the Black Flash out of the way, Savitar took position in front of the portal and ordered Frost to shoot him with the Splicer, which at first appeared to work. Suddenly, Savitar became whole again as the beam from the Splicer instead went straight through him and into the Speed Force portal instead. As they looked on, Jay Garrick burst out of the portal and swatted Savitar away. Horrified, Savitar turned to see the powered members of Team Flash join Garrick opposite him including Vibe who returned Jay's helmet to him and revealed that he had actually turned the Cannon into a Skeleton Key which freed Jay from the prison.

Barry dares his younger self to kill him, so he will become Savitar instead.

Seething with rage that he had been tricked, Savitar raced away with both Flashes and Kid Flash in close pursuit while Vibe and Gypsy took on Killer Frost. Realising he could not outrun the trio for long, Savitar first tried to block their path by chopping down a pair of trees which failed. He then leaped high into the air, turned and fired a bolt of lightning at them, which knocked them all down. Savitar returned to Frost just in time to see Vibe standing over her victorious. Swatting Gypsy away, he seized Vibe by the throat and prepared to kill him. At that moment, Frost turned on Savitar and blasted him away. Rising to his feet, Savitar reprimanded her before bringing down Barry as he tried to flank Savitar. Admitting that his time was almost up, Savitar declared that he would take down Barry with him by killing his family. As his back was turned, Barry defiantly charged Savitar and phased into the suit of armor, expelling the remnant and turning the glow red. As he lay on the ground, Barry taunted Savitar, causing him to attack but without his armor, the remnant was no match for Barry and ended up on his knees.

Barry ceases to exist.

As the Flash stood before Savitar with his gauntlet blade drawn, Savitar in despair dared Barry to finish him off, reminding Barry that if he killed him, Savitar would be born. It was all for naught however; Barry instead spared Savitar, destroyed the suit of armor and laid out his aghast opponent with a vicious speed punch. As Barry walked back towards his friends, Savitar rose to his feet again and charged at Barry roaring with rage, only to be shot and killed by Iris. As his body lay lifeless before his past self, the paradox caught up and completely erased Savitar from existence.

Personality

As a civilian and as the Flash

Prior to him becoming Savitar, Barry was once a moral, selfless and honorable individual who used his powers to help others. However, after losing Iris West and being shunned by Team Flash for being a time remnant, he went insane, becoming his own nemesis Savitar in the process.

As Savitar

Savitar claims himself as a god, and as he told the other Barry; "You thought that Thawne and Zoom were your biggest foes but it's me Barry. It's always been me". In every sense of the term and "rule" the Speed Force instead of "serving it" like his younger-self does and as such he looks down on all others including fellow speedsters with contempt and derision. He believes that he is meant to be worshiped and bowed to by all and has a loyal cult following that he seems to appreciate enough to aid in times of need. At the same time, he appears to have a measure of insecurity when it comes to other speedsters. Reveling in his status as the fastest there is, he refuses to let other speedsters challenge that claim, driven to destroy them before they can pose a true threat from their own growing speed. Savitar also has a short temper and is obsessed with revenge on his younger-self for imprisoning him.

Savitar hypocritically views Barry as the villain, claiming that he never sought conflict with him and that he was the only one to lose anything as a result of it; despite being a villain himself.

Savitar is ruthless and cruel towards his opponents as evidenced by his murder of the CCPD officers in his lair, his savage beat-down of Barry all across Central City and his willingness to kill Barry without a second's hesitation. However, he is focused on making his defeat over Barry painful and miserable, which leads him to plan on killing the love of his life, Iris West, to make him suffer instead of killing him outright.

While he hates Barry for all that his future-self has done to him, Savitar seems to show some empathy for him. He comments that all of his life Barry's had to suffer, from the pain of losing his mom and dad. However, Savitar firmly states that he will not survive what is about to come, and that he has been with Barry from the very beginning. This was a reference to Savitar being the younger Barry's most worst inner demon.

Savitar is arrogant and delusional to the point of having a "god complex". He is also cold, sadistic, immoral and manipulative to the point of having absolutely no guilt or remorse for any of his actions.

Savitar's twisted personality comes from his treatment as an aberration by Team Flash. This is seemingly what created his hatred of the team and what caused him to become Savitar in the first place.

Barry's superhuman speed is emphasized by white lightning while running.

• Speed Force connection/Meta-human physiology: As a time remnant of the original Barry Allen, Savitar possessed a powerful connection to the Speed Force. Savitar potency to draw power from the Speed Force greatly exceeded all other known users to the point that he claimed to be the "ruler" of the Speed Force. Savitar's enhanced power was either attributed by his armor or by the Philosopher's Stone, or combination of both. Savitar's had demonstrated the ability to use his speed even within Edward Clariss' prison cell despite its meta-human power dampener. Despite his power, a future version of the original Barry Allen was able to defeat him by redirecting Savitar's own power to seal him away within the Speed Force itself.
  • Accelerated healing factor: Savitar like all other speedsters had a healing factor that allowed him to regenerate and repair damage to his body at great speeds. Despite having spread his reputation as the Hindu God of Motion since ancient times and throughout the ages, he still remaining youthful as ever, he shows tremendous longevity and decelerated aging.
  • Electrokinesis: When running at superhuman speeds, Savitar generates yellow lightning but once inside his armor he generates white lightning; as he is the only known speedster in the multiverse whose lightning is this color. Like Barry, Savitar is capable of projecting electrical arcs for attacks when moving at super speed. Savitar also had the unique ability to absorb and redirect any electrical arcs launched at him.
  • Superhuman agility: Barry possessed superhuman bodily coordination, balance, equilibrium, and dexterity. He is able to change direction immediately, thus allowing him to make sharp turns and easily maneuver while moving at immense speed.
  • Superhuman speed: Savitar was unfathomably fast despite the huge suit of armor he wears, with his astronomical speed allowed him race around Alchemy's lair and instantly kill multiple cops by running past them. Upon their first encounter, despite Barry's own speed exceeding his other speedster enemies, his own movements were still slow-motion in comparison to the Savitar, who effortlessly countered and outmaneuvered the younger Barry. He later showed equal dominance against the veteran speedster Jay Garrick and simultaneously against Barry and Wally. Even after being freed from his prison, Savitar continued to dominate speedsters like the younger Barry and Jesse Quick, who were only able to fend him off by outsmarting him for a decent enough hit. But the combined efforts of Barry, Jay, and Wally were not able to overwhelm him.
    • Bodily vibration: Even when wearing his suit, Savitar can still use his ability to vibrate his body for various effects, such as to transfer extreme amounts of friction and kinetic energy through physical contact or to phase through objects. When encased in sub-zero ice, he was able to almost instantly break free from his confinement and when trying to kill Cisco Ramon, he attempted to do so with his vibrating hand to mirror Cisco's erased death at the hands of Eobard Thawne.
    • Dimensional travel: Savitar like Barry could run so fast that with enough speed he could open dimensional breaches to travel the multiverse. Savitar's ability to use dimensional breaches, allowed him to use sudden movement allowing him shift and warp about and appear out of nowhere to new locations. Combined with his raw speed, his actions could allow him to appear as if he was at multiple places at once and rapidly switch the terrain to his preference. Savitar's unique ability for near teleporting like speed, may have been due to the unique circumstances of his imprisonment as has never showed this ability again once he was freed from the Speed Force.
    • Geokinesis: Savitar is capable of generating earthquakes with his speed. This ability is likely due to the absurd amount of kinetic energy he transfers into the ground with every step he takes.
    • Superhuman momentum: Savitar can generate great amounts of physical force through the kinetic energy his immense speed generates. This allowed him to kill several cops and knock them into the air by merely running past them when he first encountered the younger Barry.He was also able to jump several feet into the air due to running so fast.
  • Superhuman perception: Savitar is easily capable of keeping up with and perceiving the movements and actions of speedsters.
  • Superhuman stamina: Savitar's body can handle the stresses of superhuman racing without noticeable distress.
  • Superhuman strength: Savitar possessed peak strength and once inside his armor his strength is further augmented by his armor. Savitar was able to lift and drag a fully-grown man off the ground by their throat, all with a single hand. Savitarwas able to pummel and toss around Barry, Wally West and Jay Garrick with one hand and, with one punch, he was able to send Jay Garrick flying over a building.
• Mental link: Because Savitar is a time remnant of a future version of Barry Allen, any new experiences that happen to Barry up to the point of before Savitar's creation will affect him as well. Because of this Savitar is able to remember virtually anything Barry does even if Savitar does not remember it originally; because of this mental link Savitar's is able to use and counter any tactic Barry forms because Savitar will remember it. Savitar's ability to experience new memories does however, appear to take several minutes after the original Barry forms and experiences it; making it not useful during immediate battle.
• Philosopher's Stone connection: Savitar traveled back in time to locate the Philosopher's Stone, a powerful artifact made of calcified speed force energy and established a connection to the Philosopher's Stone It is yet unknown as to how he managed to establish his connection to the Philosopher Stone.
  • Speedster weapons immunity: The Philosopher Stone, while connected to Savitar, immunized him from weapons that can affect speedsters who draw power from the Speed Force. While wielding it, Savitar was protected from being trapped in the Speed Force itself. The Stone also protects him from being re-imprisoned in the Speed Force a second time.
  • Possession: Once establishing a strong enough connection to a person's mind, Savitar is able to completely overshadow their actions, turning them into his unwitting pawn, and possess them, as he did with Julian Albert to turn him into "Alchemy", and enabling them to wield the power of the Philosopher's Stone.
  • Telepathy: With his connection to the Philosopher's Stone, Savitar is able to manipulate others' minds. He can telepathically communicate with them and project illusions that only they can see. This power can still be used even while sealed away in the box. However, it is considerably weakened, as he can only prey on a person's insecurities, such as creating illusions of their lost loved ones, to con them into releasing him.
  • Power bestowal through recognition: The Philosopher's Stone can even return the powers of individuals who have been wielding them during the Flashpoint Timeline. While in Flashpoint, he was unaware of some metahumans, like Magenta and Shade, but somehow gained knowledge of them. It would appear that the Stone bestows metahuman powers to those who had powers in alternate timelines/realites.

Former powers

• Invisibility: Due to Savitar being imprisoned in the Speed Force and the Philosopher's Stone, he was unable to be perceived by anyone who was not also connected to the Speed Force. Cisco Ramon was able to see him in one of his vibes, due to Savitar having already escaped from the Speed Force. However, after the rest of the Philosopher's Stone was thrown in the Speed Force which then led to him being freed from the Speed Force, Savitar was no longer invisible to Team Flash, as evidenced when he showed up on Team Flash's surveillance camera.

• Master manipulator: In his avatar as Alchemy, Savitar convinced Edward Clariss and other reborn meta-humans to become agents of his will. He was also able to advise and keep in line the rebellious Magenta. As Alchemy, he spoke to his cult members, leading them together to believe that he is a deity. Barry himself manipulated Julian Albert and later Cisco Ramon to release him, using their own feelings against them. He was also able to trick Team Flash into getting the Philosopher's Stone into the Speed Force and get Wally West to take his place as a prisoner of the Speed Force to free himself.
• Skilled hand-to-hand combatant: Savitar is a capable fighter as evidenced by his rapid victory over other speedsters like the younger Barry. His style is not as refined as Eobard Thawne's but is as savage as Zoom's; he uses his extraordinary speed to land powerful blows and throw his opponents around with his inhuman momentum.While he was still trapped in the Speed Force, he often incorporated intradimensional breaching to switch the terrain to his preference in an instant, keeping his opponent disoriented and off guard, though he apparently lost this ability after being freed from the Speed Force.

• Armor reliance: Ironically, Savitar's greatest strength is also his greatest weakness. Because he draws an excessive amount of power from the Speed Force, he has become so fast that when he uses his superhuman speed at his highest levels, the charge he builds up around himself is so volatile (due to the massive buildup of heat energy), he must wear the suit of armor to shield himself from it otherwise it would kill him. The high velocity and charge he builds up could also be used against him to trap him in the Speed Force, as discovered by Tracy Brand, who used this weakness to create the device that imprisoned him in the first place. However, despite this weakness, Savitar can run for an extended period of time without his armor with no ill effects though it should be noted that this might've only been possible because he was wearing his old Flash suit which could potentially handle the strain. It's also possible that he was not running at his full speed, therefore reducing the static charge produced by his speed.
• Extreme cold: Much like other speedsters, Savitar seems to be weakened or at least momentarily stunned when exposed to an extremely cold environment. This was proven when Caitlin Snow used her meta-human freezing powers on an invisible Savitar. However, his powers allowed him to shortly afterward break free and recover enough to zip away.
• Limited Healing Powers: Despite his increased connection to the Speed Force likewise powers, the effineciy of his healing powers appears to have been reduced. He was not able to heal from the scars on the right side of his face.
• Mental link: As Savitar is a future time remnant and his memories are linked to Barry's, if Barry forgets anything, so will Savitar.

Former weaknesses

• Philosopher's Stone connection: At some point, Savitar was defeated by the original Barry when the stone was sealed away in its box. Savitar can only maintain his presence in the world while the Philosopher's Stone is in contact with the world outside of its containment vessel. However, now that Savitar is free from the Speed Force, with Jay Garrick taking his place in the Speed Force, the stone is no longer a weakness to him.

• Armor: Upon gaining his remarkable speed, Barry also gained a full-bodied suit of armor that is massive in size and demon-like in form and generates white lightning when he uses his speed. Acting as a mechanized battle-suit, it opens from the backside. It possesses a thick, retractable spike mounted on each wrist and seemingly is able to disguise his voice. While in the suit, Barry's normal golden lightning turns white.
  • Cold resistance: The armor protected him from Caitlin Snow freezing him solid, as he was able to instantly burst out of it unfazed and ran away instantly in the speed of a lightning bolt.
  • Hidden blades: Barry's armor possesses retractible blades in its wrists as melee weapons.
  • Armor retraction: Should any part of his armor be broken off, it can immediately be drawn back to Barry from any distance, to the point where any broken off pieces can be telekinetically summoned back to the rest of the suit if it is close enough.
  • Voice filtering: Barry is able to disguise his voice so as to not be identified as a megalomaniacal version of his past self.
  • Advanced durability: The armor itself is extremely resilient and enormous durability, enough that Joe West's bullets and shots from the Mercury Labs Energy Rifle ricocheted off him harmlessly. He also takes nearly no damage when The Flash or Wally West attacked him, although he was shown to feel pain when The Flash severed his arm blade with his vibrating hand and Jesse Quick stabbed the armor with the severed arm blade. However, as his suit has been shown to be removable, it's possible that was a reaction to discomfort. So far, he has only be damage by weapons made from its own material.
  • Advanced strength: The armor's size, mechanized parts and material give it great strength, allowing Barry to effortlessly lift, drag and send people flying through the air with one hand. Even when his briefly lost his memories and, therefore, forgot his powers along his younger self, he retained his strength due to his suit, allowing him to lift Caitlyn Snow against a wall with one hand. While operating without Barry being inside it, the suit managed to throw the younger Flash several feet and briefly pin him down with its foot before the speedster forced it off him.
  • Static charge displacement: Due to the fact that Savitar draws a lot of power from the Speed Force, whenever his speed is at his highest, the static and heat energy around him is extremely volatile. To counter this, the armor's primary function is to shield Barry from the highly dangerous levels of static charge and heat energy built up whenever he uses his advanced speed.
  • Mental connection: To a certain degree, the armor can move and attack on its own, should Barry be attacked out of his suit, though it is unable to use Barry's speed.
• Philosopher's Stone: Barry went back in time and discovered this artifact long ago, using it to hire new meta-humans, and also to further enhance his power. He used this artifact up to the point of being defeated and trapped in the Speed Force within it by his younger-self until he was able to use it to escape his imprisonment. Barry was able to use the stone preventing from the speed force bazooka from trapping him in the speed force again.
• The Flash suit: Barry still has his old Flash suit, which he used as a disguise to trick Team Flash into telling him that Iris was on Earth Two.

• As a rather interesting trick on the audience, Savitar has said "I am the Future Flash", flatly saying he is a future version of Barry Allen. However, it was spoken as if to say "I am the future, Flash." saying he represented the next step in evolution or the one to lead the world into the future.
• Savitar did not exist until after Flashpoint, as evidenced by Eobard Thawne's future newspaper changing only after the event was over.
• Barry/Savitar seemed unaware of the ultimate fate of Eobard Thawne, Post-Flashpoint, when he was killed by Hunter Zolomon. However he could be referring to Eobard's younger time remnants preserved through the Speed Force to stabilize the timeline until he reaches his Pre-Flashpoint fate, indicating that between 2017 and 2021 he encountered several of them.
• It is revealed that Savitar's absolute knowledge of events of the past, present and future of Team Flash was not due to his power, but because of his memories as he is a future version of Barry Allen himself. This means he has lived through these events and has remembered them.
  • However, it is also possible he is able to obtain memories of present Barry Allen as he is his own time remnant as shown in Infantino Street when he remembers Barry went to the past and recruited Leonard Snart.
• Barry/Savitar is the first speedster that can become invisible, because he was trapped in the speed force. This is an ability found in the comics, where conduits of the speed-force can move so fast that they are invisible to normal humans. Only other speedsters could see him, even while he is standing still, appearing invisible to humans and through cameras, but after being freed, he became visible to everyone else.
• Barry/Savitar is, so far, the only main antagonist of The Flash who didn't make his debut on the first episode of the season he appears in. His voice is heard on Flashpoint, but he didn't make his first full appearance until Shade.
• Barry/Savitar is the only speedster that generates white lightning, as opposed to yellow (his younger self, Jay, Wally, and Jesse), red (Eobard and Edward), blue (Hunter and Eliza) or purple (Accelerated Man). However, he only does so in his armor; outside it, he generates normal yellow lightning.
• Barry/Savitar is the only speedster so far who has demonstrated the ability to open dimensional breaches to different locations on the same Earth, though it is possible that the majority of this ability seemed to come from the fact that he was trapped in the Speed Force and, therefore, was not confined to the limits of distance and space of the real world. It appears that he has lost this ability, as he has seemingly stopped using it ever since he was freed from his imprisonment.
• Every time Savitar's ripped from this world and back to imprisonment, the hole he's pulled through is shaped like a lightning bolt.
• Barry/Savitar can access his speed while in the metahuman power dampening cell. Though not yet explained, it's most likely due to the fact that his essence is contained within the Philosopher's Stone, and that his physical manifestation is simply an extension of this, which is why his powers weren't negated, as the stone was not in the cell.
• Savitar is the only speedster-villain thus far to have defeated three rival speedsters in a single episode; His younger self, Jay and Wally.
• Barry/Savitar holds his previous speedster foes like Reverse-Flash and Zoom in low regard when he arrogantly understated the scope of their rivalries with his past self. Abra Kadabra also compared Savitar as being worse than Thawne or Zoom due to the fact that Savitar was the only foe to true "break" Barry, as he comes from a timeline where Savitar was successful at killing Iris.
• It's also interesting that Barry/Savitar holds Zoom in low regard, despite the fact he mirrors Hunter Zolomon. Hunter killed Barry's father to unleash Barry's dark side, similar to how Hunter became evil when he witnessed his father murder his mother. Ironically, Barry, as Savitar, fulfilled this by killing Iris. Hunter also created a time remnant who would be Jay Garrick, a past version of him to be a hero, and himself as the villain, as Barry and Savitar mirror each other.
• Hunter Zolomon was able to achieve his goal of having Barry embrace the darkness in this case. Despite his hate for Zoom, this Barry also reiterates to his younger self that he'll drive him to the darkness.
• Despite his great power, his younger self has demonstrated himself to have grown powerful enough to fight Barry/Savitar on equal grounds and briefly subdue him, something that other speedsters, such as Jay Garrick and Jesse Quick were incapable of doing. Savitar seemed to have become more vulnerable to harm after having escaped the Speed Force, since Barry and Jesse both managed to cause him physical pain when the former broke off his arm blade and the latter stabbed him with it. While he was still only manisfesting himself through his imprisonment, only Caitlin Snow was able to come close to harming him when she briefly froze him.
• It is not yet known how deep Barry/Savitar's natural connection to the Speed Force really is. Many of his seemingly unique abilities, such as opening breaches at will, invisibility, unrivaled super-speed, immunity to metahuman power-dampeners or his "clairvoyance" may very well be related to his imprisonment in the Speed Force. Due to this, he may have had pure and fresh access to speed force energies, thus contributing to his significantly enhanced speedster powers, prompting his megalomaniacal claims to be "a god" and "the ruler of the Speed Force".
• As Cisco mentioned that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable to magic", it's possible that some of Barry/Savitar's powers could be advanced technology, as his metallic form is actually a mechanical suit of armor.
• Barry/Savitar made a prophecy to his younger self about the destinies of his friends. In the episode "The Once and Future Flash", which features a possible version of the future (the year of 2024), more details about his prophecy are revealed:
  • "One shall betray you" - Caitlin Snow is the one who betrays the Flash. She initially kept a piece of the Philosopher's stone, without team's knowledge, with the hope that it might help her somehow, lose her powers. However, after she transforms and embraces her Killer Frost personality, it is revealed that she learns Savitar's true identity like a future version of Barry and allies herself with him. In 2024, Caitlin, who is still a villain, is kept as a prisoner in the Pipeline, and still refuses to reveal Savitar's secret to her former allies.
  • "One shall fall" - Iris West is the one who dies. Barry/Savitar impaled her with his wrist blade while he made The Flash watch. In 2024, Iris' death has greatly affected her friends and family; his younger self quit being the Flash and isolated himself from everyone, Joe and Barry are not in touch anymore and Team Flash has been disbanded.
  • "One will suffer a fate far worse than death" - Wally West suffers a fate far worse than death, as is Jay Garrick. He is initially imprisoned into the Speed Force and is forced to relive the moment of his mother's death in a endless loop until Barry and Jay Garrick save him, with Jay taking Wally's place, living in his own personal hell until freed from the Speed Force. In 2024, Wally is revealed to have been left paralyzed and mentally catatonic for the rest of his life, after a confrontation with Barry/Savitar. It is explained that he was so enraged by Iris's death that he decided to go after his sister's killer alone, but Barry/Savitar managed to crush Wally's spine and expose him to incredible yet unknown horrors that left him in that state. It's presumed Barry revealed himself to Wally and he was unable to cope with that.
• In a possible future in 2024, H.R. is an author of a book titled "The Streak Vs Mr. Reflecto" that is presumed based on the real life vendetta between the Flash and Savitar, though it may also be a reference to Mirror Master, who was free and terrorizing the city at the time.
• Savitar/Barry is very similar to the supervillain from the Smallville series Bizarro in which they are both the evil corrupted versions of the main protagonists Barry Allen/The Flash and Clark Kent/Superman.
• He is right-handed, since 2017 Barry is right-handed as revealed in the episode "Who is Harrison Well's".
• In the end, even after Savitar's demise, his prophecy does come true, since
  • Caitlin Snow is the one who betrays the team to join Savitar.
  • H.R. Wells is the one who dies, to prevent Savitar from coming into existence.
  • Barry Allen is the one who surrendered himself to the Speed Force, suffering a fate far worse than death, though the Speed Force said Barry would not experience the Hell that Jay, Wally, or Savitar suffered through.

Behind the scenes

• In the DC comics, Savitar was an enemy of Wally West as the Flash, an ex-pilot from Eastern Europe who was empowered during a test flight, after which he named himself after Savitr, the Hindu god of motion, and dedicated his life to unlocking and mastering the secrets of the Speed Force. He discovered creative ways of using the Speed Force and tried to kill every other speedster on Earth, transferring their Speed Force connections onto himself.
  • Similarly to how it's depicted in The Flash TV series, Savitar was able to use the Speed Force to make himself invisible to non-speedsters in the comics.
• This portrayal of Savitar appears to be an amalgamation of the DC Comics' Savitar and the Future Flash, who travels back in time to kill his younger self, for he blames himself for the death of Wally West twenty years into the future. Similarly, The Flash portrays this version of the Future Flash traveling through time to ruin his younger self's life by killing Iris West (and possibly his younger self) for reasons yet to be revealed.
• Savitar's metallic appearance and white lightning are similar to the DC comics character Godspeed.
• Up until his appearance in The Wrath of Savitar, all of Savitar's appearances have been CGI.
