DC's Legends of Tomorrow was renewed for a fifth season by The CW on January 31, 2019.[1] It will premiere in January 2020[2] and consist of 16 episodes.[3]

Confirmed plot points
- Sara will get a magical illness, which will later become a superpower.[11]
- Ava will experience some personal growth this season because she is currently unemployed; in the wake of the events of "Hey, World!", the Time Bureau was shuttered, meaning the Legends are now once again the timeline's last line of defense and Ava must figure out what comes next for her.[11]
- Tala Ashe will be portraying a different version of Zari.[4] This version of Zari will "come in like a hurricane" and is expected to be hated but then maybe loved by fans.[12]
- The new historical villains will be called "Encores".[13]
- Astra will be the main antagonist of the season.[8]
- Caity Lotz will direct the 5th episode.[14]
- Despite being the eighth episode produced of the season[15], the fifth part of Crisis on Infinite Earths will the first episode of the season to air. However, "Meet the Legends" is considered to be the season premiere.
- Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford will depart as series regulars at some point.[16]
- There will be an episode centered on Ray and Nate that will somehow involve a prom.[12]
- The season premiere will be a mockumentary-style episode.[12]
