DC's Legends of Tomorrow​​​​​​ was renewed for a fifth season by The CW on January 31, 2019. It will premiere on January 21, 2020, with a Crisis on Infinite Earths special airing the prior week and consist of 16 episodes including the special.

Confirmed plot points

• Sara will get a magical illness, which will later become a superpower.
• Ava will experience some personal growth this season because she is currently unemployed; in the wake of the events of "Hey, World!", the Time Bureau was shuttered, meaning the Legends are now once again the timeline's last line of defense and Ava must figure out what comes next for her.
• Tala Ashe will be portraying a different version of Zari. This version of Zari will "come in like a hurricane" and is expected to be hated but then maybe loved by fans.
• The new historical villains will be called "Encores".
• Astra Logue will be the main antagonist of the season.
• Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford will depart as series regulars at some point.
• There will be an episode centered on Ray and Nate that will somehow involve a prom.
• The season premiere will be a mockumentary-style episode.

Sara, Ray and Mick are shocked to discover that the Legends have become famous. It seems that everyone except Sara is loving the spotlight, so much so that they invite a documentary crew on board the Waverider to film them as they investigate a strange new blip in the Timeline. The Legends discover that their new problem is none other than Rasputin, who happens to be straight out of hell, and it might be tougher than they thought. Meanwhile, Constantine thinks he knows the reason behind these new blips and informs the team that it won't be easy to defeat.
