Supergirl was renewed for a fifth season by The CW on January 31, 2019. It premiered on October 6, 2019, and was planned to consist of 22 episodes.[1] However, the number of episodes that are ultimately aired could change due to production shutting down indefinitely on March 13, 2020 as a preventive measure for the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.[2]
