The seventh season of The Flash premiered on March 2, 2021 on The CW and concluded on July 20, 2021. The season consisted of 18 episodes.
Like last season, this season was broken up into story arcs which were called "Graphic Novels". The first three episodes of the season were a continuation of "Reflections and Lies"[1], the first story arc was called "God Complex"[2], and the second story arc was called "The Godspeed Imperative".[3]
Synopsis
Barry Allen lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police Department. Barry's life changed forever when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark-matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with superspeed and making him the fastest man alive - the Flash.
After a thrilling cliffhanger last season which saw the new Mirror Master victorious and still-at-large in Central City, the Flash must regroup in order to stop her and find a way to make contact with his missing wife, Iris West-Allen. With help from the rest of Team Flash, which includes superheroes Caitlin Snow, Cisco Ramon, Ralph Dibny and Nash Wells, as well as the Flash's adoptive father, Joe West, meta-attorney Cecile Horton, tough cub reporter Allegra Garcia and brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk… Flash will ultimately defeat Mirror Master. But in doing so, he'll also unleash an even more powerful and devastating threat on Central City: one that threatens to tear his team - and his marriage - apart.[src] |

Production
- On May 13, 2020, showrunner Eric Wallace revealed that the last three episodes of the previous season (episodes 20, 21, and 22), that weren't produced and aired due to the COVID-19 pandemic, would become the first three episodes of this season.[4]
- On June 8, 2020, Hartley Sawyer was fired from the role of Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man.[5]
- On August 24, 2020, Eric Wallace revealed in an interview that Ralph would appear in at least one episode, portrayed by a new actor, in order to wrap up Sue's storyline from the previous season. Ralph would then be written off but may return in some form in the future.[6]
Trivia
- Like last season, this season was split into "Graphic Novels". However, showrunner Eric Wallace said "they're not going to be broken up in the way I think folks expect."[7]
- This was proven true when there were three episodes between the end of "God Complex" and the start of "The Godspeed Imperative" called "Interlude I".
- This was the first season of The Flash:
- To feature Brandon McKnight (Chester P. Runk) and Kayla Compton (Allegra Garcia) as series regulars.
- To not premiere in October.
- To not end in May.
- To premiere and end in the same year.
- To have three main antagonists: Eva McCulloch/Mirror Monarch, the Speed Force, and August Heart/Godspeed.
- To feature three different versions of the title sequence.
- Following Tom Cavanagh's final appearance as a series regular in "Mother", he was removed from the title sequence.
- Despite still being credited as a series regular in the final two episodes, Carlos Valdes was removed from the title sequence after "Good-Bye Vibrations".
- To not feature Candice Patton (Iris West-Allen) in every episode.
- To not crossover with any other Arrowverse series.
- Where Stephen Amell did not reprise his Arrowverse role as Oliver Queen in any capacity.
- To not feature Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West) since his introduction in Season 2, although archive footage of him in "Death of the Speed Force" was shown in "Mother".
- There were attempts to have Lonsdale reprise his role, but it didn't work out due to the quarantine restrictions in Canada at the time and scheduling conflicts with a series he was filming in the United States.[8]
- To not feature Melissa Benoist (Kara Danvers) since Season 2.
- To not end on a cliffhanger.
- Despite being credited in the "main cast" bill, Efrat Dor (Eva McCulloch) and Tom Cavanagh (Harrison Wells) are only credited for their respective episode appearances.
- In addition, Cavanagh was also credited in the "special guest star" bill in "Timeless" and the "special appearance by" bill in "Heart of the Matter, Part 2".
- Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon) was credited in the "main cast" bill for the first twelve episodes as well as the last two episodes of the season.
- Grant Gustin (Barry Allen) and Jesse L. Martin (Joe West) were the only series regulars to appear in every episode this season.
- This was the last season of The Flash to feature Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon), Tom Cavanagh (Harrison Wells) and Efrat Dor (Eva McCulloch) as series regulars.
- Due to ""Mother" directly going into "Central City Strong", as opposed to allowing a timeskip to accommodate smooshing the end of Season 6 into the beginning, the dating up until "Family Matters, Part 2" is completely contradictory; whiplashing between 2020 and 2021.
- Tom Cavanagh and Efrat Dor were only credited for their respective episode appearances. The former was also credited in the special guest star and special appearance bill in "Timeless" and "Heart of the Matter, Part 2" respectively
