Detective Stuart "Stu" Donnelly (died November 2019) was a corrupt police detective of the Gotham City Police Department. He was targeted and killed by the Executioner.

Biography[]

Corrupt activities[]

During Stu's life as a GCPD detective, he became a corrupt cop involved in convicting innocent and often individuals of various crimes as part of a scheme with ADA Angus Stanton and Judge Raymond Calverick. Stu took credit for his victims' arrest as a way to raise his reputation.[1]

Targeted by the Executioner[]

In 2019, Stu was targeted by the Executioner, who managed to kill him by setting up a trap inside a building at 200 Rucka Avenue, claiming he barricaded himself inside with some hostages and wanted to talk only to Stu. However, after Stu entered the building, he discovered the perpetrator was just a recorded voice. He was killed by a machine that shot him to death.[1]

Legacy[]

Sometime after Stu's death, his past crimes were exposed to the public by Batwoman. As a result, the district attorney and Judge Davis Wellington re-opened all the cases that were tainted by Stu and his co-conspirators' actions.[1][2]

During Reggie Harris' post-conviction relief hearing, Judge Wellington states that Reggie's confessing to the murder of Lucius Fox was due to him being coerced by Stu, which is reasonable grounds for a retrial; which proves that Stu has gained both a negative reputation and legacy simultaneously.[3]

Personality[]

According to Luke Fox, Stu was an heroic individual who never stopped until he brought the guilty to justice. However, this was ultimately nothing more than a façade. In truth, Stu was a selfish, greedy, dishonorable and corrupt individual, as he and his co-conspirators, Angus Stanton and Raymond Calverick, framed multiple innocent individuals for crimes they did not commit for personal gain in order to raise his reputation, with no guilt, shame or remorse for these despicable actions.[1]
