Susan Williams is a reporter of Channel 52 and the ex-girlfriend of the late Oliver Queen.

Biography[]

As a reporter of Channel 52, Susan Williams reported negatively on Oliver Queen as Mayor of Star City. One example being Oliver appointing Quentin Lance as his Deputy Mayor. Hoping to have her walk back on her story, Thea Queen went to meet Susan, admitting that Quentin was not even appointed yet, not to mention it was, in fact, Thea herself that had offered him the job. In response to this, Susan updated her story, suggesting that Oliver was "asleep at the wheel" of his administration. Because of this, Oliver held a public announcement at City Hall, inviting the press and officially supporting Quentin being his Deputy Mayor. As Susan went to leave, Thea approached her, warning the former to never cross her like that again.[1]

Sometime later, Susan began shadowing Councilman Kullens for a profile, following him into a meeting with Oliver about rezoning ordinates. They greeted each other, with Oliver suggesting that some of her pieces were off the mark. Once they got down to business, Kullens acknowledged that Oliver's plans would only benefit "crony capitalists", such as Queen Consolidated some decades before, a fact which surprised Susan, leading to her and Kullens leaving. The following day, Oliver called Susan back for an off-camera interview. Susan admitted that, while she thought Oliver seemed nice, she believed he was vastly under-qualified, leading to Star City suffering due to it; thus, the cause of her attacks on him. Asking for time to impress her, she agreed to give him one month with no attacks, giving Oliver her personal cell phone number before she left. The following night, Susan met with an associate, Ian, who gave her a photo of Oliver in Russia in 2011 while he was supposedly shipwrecked, wearing the green hooded outfit with a bow and arrows.[2]

Some days later, Oliver had an on-camera interview with Susan, expressing his pleasure with the new zoning ordinates and the Anti-Crime Unit. As she left, Susan suggested he both impress and call her. Susan later reported on a serial killer being responsible for a recent string of murders, dubbing him the "Throwing Star Killer".[3]

The following week, Susan met Oliver again, apologizing for being stuck in a Twitter war with a Russian investigative journalist. He politely requested her not to report on the two bodies that which had been left outside the Star City Police Department by a new vigilante. When Oliver expressed his doubts on his work as Mayor, Susan invited him to McGuire's Neighborhood Bar for a friendly drink. He joined her that night, opening up about his problems, being careful not to specify that they were in fact regarding his vigilantism as the Green Arrow. Susan advised Oliver to continue trusting his instincts.[4]

After their friendly drink at the bar, Oliver and Susan began going out and she was Oliver's plus-one at his mayoral Christmas party. A couple of nights later, Susan received a surprise visit from Oliver at her apartment and they had a drink. Oliver explained to her that someone from his past had told him that he ruined the lives of everyone he came into contact with. Susan immediately refuted this, saying that Oliver had to stop shutting people out and offered to show him how. She kissed him and the two passionately made out.[5]

Susan was to interview Quentin once he returned from rehab. With Rene Ramirez's help,[6] Quentin successfully handled the interview.[7]

Sometime after the interview, Susan beds Oliver. Later on, having gathered evidence of his time in Russia and that he is Green Arrow, Susan asked Oliver if he really was the vigilante but he denied it. Suspicious, Thea had Felicity Smoak hack into Susan's computer and they discovered her evidence. To protect Oliver's identity, they framed Susan for plagiarism (albeit Felicity did not know what she was helping Thea with) getting her fired and blacklisted from the media industry. This lead Susan to break up with Oliver, believing he set her up.[8] When Oliver criticized Thea for this, pointing out she ruined a woman's life, Thea refused to lift a finger, but Felicity made things right and got Susan her job back by excusing the allegations as a prank. Susan and Oliver made amends after she realized he had nothing to do with her getting fired.[9]

Shortly after, Susan was kidnapped by Adrian Chase, revealed to be the Throwing Star Killer. A couple of days later, she was rescued by Oliver and Team Arrow. At the SCPD precinct, Susan and Quentin were confronted by Adrian. Adrian revealed he kidnapped Oliver and threatened to send him "back in pieces" if they exposed him.[10] Regardless, Susan gave a statement that Adrian was Prometheus, but wasn't believed since he had a strong alibi.

A week later, Susan reunited with Oliver at City Hall when he was released by Adrian. She assured Oliver that her kidnapping wasn't his fault and asked if he would corroborate her statement, but Oliver knew Adrian would have a contingency for that. Oliver broke up with Susan for good, citing reasons as to keep her safe and so she would move on with her life. Though saddened, Susan accepted this and left.[11]

Despite the fact that She promised Oliver to keep his secret for unknown reasons. Susan handed over the photo of Oliver in Russia for the trial.

During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, Susan as well as everyone in the multiverse except for the seven Paragons, was killed in an antimatter wave by the Anti-Monitor on December 10, 2019. A month later, after the Paragons and the Spectre created a new universe, it remains unknown if susan was restored as well.

Personality[]

Susan is not above being blunt and harsh with other individuals she interviews or is reporting on the news, despite her (seemingly) cold and ruthless demeanor on camera, her only goal is to reveal the truth and aid her city through it; as Susan is actually caring, selfless, moral and honorable. But simultaneously, she still takes her job as a reporter very seriously, highly driven to uncover the truth and work all angles possible.

While eager to tell a worthwhile story, Susan is not one to recklessly jump into doing so, when she entered in a romantic relationship with Oliver Queen, while it (initially) appeared that she only did this for a story, she decided to first confront Oliver about this, seeing all the good he has done as mayor and proving that her romantic feelings for the latter were genuine. Ultimately, Susan decided to bury the story and keep Oliver's identity as Green Arrow a secret from the public; despite the fact that such a story would get high ratings and further her career.

Abilities[]

  • Keen-level intellect/Expert investigator: Susan is very intelligent individual and an excellent investigator; as she follows every lead and rumor to discover the truth behind any story. Recognizing Oliver Queen's unique tattoo as a symbol of the captain status in the Solntsevskaya Bratva, Susan was able to piece together that Oliver's entire five years from society; such as the fact that he was not on the island of Lian Yu all that time. Susan even deduced Oliver's secret identity as Green Arrow; due to the fact that a mysterious archer appeared in Russia around the same time that Oliver did.
  • Network: Susan has many sources to help her in her work; such as Ian; who supplied her with photographic evidence of Oliver's time in Russia.
