- "Where's our dad?"
- "When I left him he was a crumpled heap in his little ice castle. Peculiar place to build a fortress, I chose the desert, like to feel the sun on my face."
- —Jonathan Kent and Tal-Rho[src]
A fortress is Tal-Rho's sanctuary situated in a desert on Earth which holds information about his dead planet Krypton and allows him to communicate with the A.I. of his late father Zeta-Rho and later Lara Lor-Van.
Overview[]
The fortress is a vast sanctuary hidden somewhere in the desert. It appears to be built entirely from either sand or minerals.
The fortress contains various Kryptonian items, such as the A.I. of Zeta-Rho and Lara Lor-Van.
History[]
After Tal-Rho escaped from his prison, he went to a desert where he threw his Fortress crystal, which created the Fortress, and activated the A.I of his late father Zeta-Rho, asking him what year it was on this Earth and if he had acquired the Eradicator, he said no, which made the A.I. angry but Tal-Rho responded that he had spent years searching for it but it had yet to arrive, Zeta-Rho decided then to train his son using a giant laser ray to augment his tolerance to pain and make him more resistant.
Many years later, Tal-Rho brought his half-brother Kal-El to his Fortress along with the Eradicator to brainwash him using the ray his father's A.I. used on him years ago.[1] Superman was possessed by General Zod's consciousness, but thanks to Lois Lane and John Henry Irons, he returned to normal. Because of this, Tal-Rho ripped the Eradicator out of the Fortress and fled into space.[2]
After Tal-Rho deactivated the Fortress of Solitude, Superman was unable to reactivate it, so he began using his half-brother's fortress instead. When Superman started having painful visions, he made a deal with Tal to use his fortress, while Jordan came with him to keep an eye on Tal. He activated Lara Lor-Van's A.I., who is happy to see her children and examined Superman and he started having the visions again.
Meanwhile, Jordan discovered that Tal-Rho has pretended to lose his powers and after a brief fight between Superman and Tal, Lara told Superman that the visions are the result of an "invasive cosmological event".[3] Later, Superman took his Inverse World counterpart to the fortress, where Lara's A.I was able to give him the ability to speak coherently. When he woke up, he told Superman that he needed to kill Ally Allston before she destroyed his world.[4]
Eventually, Superman and Tal-Rho returned to the fortress to evade Mitch Anderson, but he found them and tried to shoot Superman with Kryptonite bullets, but Tal jumped in front of Superman, taking the bullets instead. So Lara's A.I. freed Superman's counterpart and he attacked Anderson while Superman used his heat vision to destroy the pieces of kryptonite in his half-brother's body and took him to space to heal. Anderson managed to kill Superman's counterpart and fled.[5]

Trivia[]
- Tal-Rho's fortress is highly similar, both in location and structure, to Reign's Fortress of Sanctuary on Earth-38. It is located in the country of Kazhakstan on that Earth.
