I posted this elsewhere, but I think it warrants repeating here:
Why are we going through such great lengths to act as though the characters that are very clearly S.T.R.I.P.E., Dr. Mid-Nite, Hourman, and Wildcat are not those characters? Even if it weren't incredibly obvious, the pedantic insistence on conjectural names is unhelpful to potential readers and only serves to create more work later on. There is no real reason this should be any different than the Earth-21 or Earth-89 pages. -- Daniel D Adkins (talk) 17:16, January 27, 2020 (UTC)
- I only started on them yesterday. We're still deciding on how we're gonna name Stargirl since it's different from the existing one that's also Earth-2.—TIMESHADE |Talk/Wall| - |C| 18:18, January 27, 2020 (UTC)
- One reason I can see for this is different actors, not to mention genders? Charles played by Kwesi Ameyaw wore a different Dr. Mid-Nite suit than Anjelika Washington does as Dr. Mid-Nite (Earth-2) for example. For all we know she might even be called "Mrs. Mid-Nite", so I guess we shouldn't necessarily assume they share the same codenames, though I think pointing out the resemblance is something worthwhile to do. Similarly the Wildcat suit worn by Yvette Monreal as Wildcat (Earth-2) might be called something like "Wildkitten" rather than "Wildcat" as we know for Ted Grant. I think in both cases it's worth noting on the suits pages (if not their male wearers) how a variation appeared in season 5, and vice versa.
- The probably-Hourman's gender is consistent (still different actor though) but the suit worn by Hourman (Earth-2) is a lot more traditional than the mostly-black Hourman suit we had seen previously.
- This is exactly the kind of thing I labeled as pedantic and unhelpful for readers both above and on the Talk:Courtney Whitmore page. We know which characters these actors are playing, we've seen them in these costumes, and we know who they are from the comics. Even if we didn't want to use their superhero names, there is no reason we shouldn't be labeling them as who we know them to be - Courtney Whitmore, Beth Chapel, Rick Tyler, and Yolanda Montez. If someone watching Crisis is like "woah, who's that on Earth-2" and comes to this wiki for information, calling them "Earth-2 vigilante" and "unnamed person" does not tell them anything. The goal of a wiki should be providing a resource of information so that people can learn new information. This current approach supplies no information and just confuses people even more. -- Daniel D Adkins (talk) 20:47, January 27, 2020 (UTC)
Numbering scheme[]
I noticed a glaring absence of a Earth-2 vigilante 2 in the current 1/3/4 numbering. Was that our prior designation for Stargirl? Or was it the designation for the Earth-2 robot (ie STRIPE who Dan references above) probably piloted by Pat Dugan?
Whichever it was, would "vigilante 6" designate the remainder?
Were numbers assigned by going from left to right or something like that? talk2ty 19:05, January 27, 2020 (UTC)
