"Not fun being the victim, is it, Joe?"
—Tanner Freyr to one of his bullies[src]

Tanner Freyr is a former student of Gotham City High School who was turned into the second Clayface by the original's mud.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Tanner attended Gotham City High School, where he was an outcast and bullied by some members of the school soccer team, notably Andy, Casey and Joe H..[1]

Becoming Clayface[]

Tanner is infected by Clayface's mud.

Tanner is infected by Clayface's mud.

In 2021, Tanner attended a bonfire party in the Cloyster Woods, where his bullies tripped him into some mud. He was infected by Clayface's mud, which changed his physiology and turned him into the new Clayface. With his newfound powers, Tanner decided to take revenge on his bullies, but was stopped by Batwoman and temporarily dissolved during a downpour. Eventually, he reintegrated and disguised himself as Casey's mother to "pick him up" from school. He later broke into the men's room and rummaged through Joe's closet. Midway through the game, he invaded the field and tried to kill Joe, but was frozen by Batwoman and taken to Arkham Asylum until he could be cured.

Tanner was examined by a psychologist and when she left, a man came out of the shadows and offered freedom if Tanner would join him and defeat false heroes like Batwoman. Tanner accepted, so the man opened a portal and he passed through.[1]

The final battle[]

Tanner was transported to 2049 and disguised himself as Ryan Choi, until the latter arrived and Tanner revealed himself as Clayface. Tanner later joined Will Parker, the Necrians, the Superman of Earth-TUD22 and the clone of The Needle, but eventually all were defeated by Earth-Prime heroes. Before being returned to his time, Ryan separated Tanner from Clayface's mud.[2]

Powers and abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Meta-human physiology: After being exposed to Clayface's mud, Tanner took on a similar mud biology with enhanced psychical attributes.[1]
    • Shapeshifting: Tanner can change the density and size of his body mass, allowing him to take a variety of shapes and mimic the appearance of others. As a result, he is able to fashion his form and limbs into weapons, such as spiked anvils, and use them at any time he wants.[1]
    • Superhuman strength: Tanner can change his molecular structure to become rock-hard and consequently become stronger.[1]
    • Superhuman durability: As a side effect of his new powers, Tanner is rendered highly durable.[1]

Weaknesses[]

  • Water: When Tanner's body comes in contact with water, it destabilizes his molecular structure, making him briefly dissolves.[1]
  • Sub-zero temperatures: Sub zero temperatures cause Tanner's molecules to stay in place, preventing him from shapeshifting.[1]
