The Tarazi family, previously named Tomaz family in an erased timeline, is a Muslim family who primarily lives in Washington, D.C..

History[]

Original timeline[]

Zari with her family

The Tarazi family in the original timeline.

The family lived in an A.R.G.U.S.-controlled America, where their religion was condemned. Zari Tomaz is a hacker, rogue time traveler, and a member of the Legends. Her brother, Behrad, was a vigilante in the A.R.G.U.S.-controlled America, wielding the Air Totem. In 2042, A.R.G.U.S. raided his family's home, killing Behrad. Zari took the totem and used it to honor her family's legacy as a member of the Legends.[1]

New timeline[]

An ancestor of the Tarazi family named Amoo Arjomand resided in the Air Totem for around 400 years after his death.[2]

With the Legends creating Heyworld, they interfered with the timeline and erased the timeline in which Behrad was killed. By extension, this also kept Zari from ever joining the Legends, resulting in her brother, Behrad joining the team instead.[3]

The family had a birthday dinner for its patriarch with Nate Heywood as an invited guest,[4] which ultimately led Zari Tarazi to join her brother, who died in battle, as a Legend.[5] After his return,[6] both Zari and Behrad can use the Air Totem, where Zari Tomaz lives in the World between worlds.[7]

Known family members[]

  • Amoo Arjomand (family ancestor)

  • Nasreen Tarazi (Mr. Tarazi's wife and Zari and Behrad's mother)
  • Zari Tomaz (Mr. Tarazi and Nasreen's daughter and Behrad's sister in the erased timeline)
  • Zari Tarazi (Mr. Tarazi and Nasreen's daughter and Behrad's sister in the current timeline)
  • Behrad Tarazi (Mr. Tarazi and Nasreen's son and Zari's brother)

Behind the scenes[]

  • According to writer Tyron B. Carter, the family's surname change from Tomaz to Tarazi was because the Tarazis were never persecuted in the new timeline. In the erased timeline, they changed their surname to Tomaz in an attempt to hide their Iranian heritage.[8]
