"Tender is the Nate" is the sixth episode of the fourth season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and the fifty-seventh episode overall. It aired on November 26, 2018.

Synopsis

When Hank Heywood confronts Ava about the spending habits of the Legends, Nate steps in to try and smooth things over by inviting Hank on to the Waverider. The Legends then show Hank what they do by visiting 1920s Paris, trying to capture the newest fugitive. Meanwhile, Mona is trying to make a good impression with Ava, but her over eagerness gets her and Ava stuck in a cell instead[src]

Plot

"Tender Is The Nate" begins with Monda showing up at he Time Bureau, she's been given a vocation at the association after her presentation in a week ago's scene. Ava shows her around the workplace, acquainting her with a portion of the detainees at the office, including Nora Darhk.

Ava returns to her office, where she's welcomed by Sara Lance in full underwear, needing to observe Ava's birthday. The two beginning getting private when Hank Heywood busts in and an abnormal discussion among Hank and Ava results while Sara has a go at staying silent under the work area.

Hank's disturbed that the Time Bureau is costing the administration millions and he arranges Ava that she needs to give the Pentagon sufficient thinking to draining cash. Hank at that point orders Nate to take him to the Wave Rider — where the Legends have a go at diverting Nate from finding the Amaya copy being held in the storm cellar.

The gathering is fruitless in their endeavor and Nate unintentionally discovers Charlie. Sara and Ray pull Nate aside and clarify their circumstance. Nate consents to one doing one crucial that Charlie is his ex so Hank doesn't understand they're holding an outlaw.

Sara separates the group into two crews — Sara, Nate, Mick, and Hanky travel to 1927 Paris to deal with a period chronological error. There, the incredible craftsman Salvador Dali discloses to the gathering that he saw a massive man. Hank gets diverted by Ernest Hemingway, his preferred creator. Hank and Mick warmly embrace Hemingway and they let it slip the Legends are chasing a beast. Hemingway demands chasing the beast with the group.

The groups enter the Catacombs to start finding the animal.

Mona goes to visit Nora, and sneaks her a letter from Ray. Nora gets resentful and utilizes her forces to destroy her the prison cell containing her. Ava calls for crisis reinforcement.

Nate's attempting to discover his way around Paris when he chances upon Charlie and the two contend. The pair at that point finds the Fitzgeralds, the team Nate was making the rounds searching for.

Down in the Catacombs, the gathering runs into a minotaur and start battling it.

The Fitzgeralds disclose to Nate the account of the minotaur and he understands he needs to substantiate himself to his dad so he leaves to go into the Catacombs to discover the remainder of the group.

In the battle, Hank gets sliced by the minotaur and the team surges him back to the Waverider. Gideon directs a narcotic to Hank and the remainder of the group head pull out to stop the minotaur.

Ava and Mona are currently secured Nora's cell and the three take a stab at holding. Ava's irate with Mona about her activities with Nora however the three beginning drinking wine bought for Ava's birthday. The three beginning becoming inebriated.

Constantine prepares a creation that emits the aroma of a female minotaur and Nate says that once the beast is diverted, he'll play a tune on his lute to make it nod off.

They accumulate at the watering opening they met Dali and Hemingway at prior and sure enough, the minotaur comes to assault. They almost get the minotaur snoozing yet Hemingway's firearm goes off and awakens it with a following battle.

It's uncovered that Ray shrouded himself in the letter of Nora's and jumps out to enable the trio to break out of the cell.

The minotaur's going to gut Nate when Hank gets a guitar and starts singing James Taylor. Hank's arrangement attempts to divert the minotaur, taking care of it. The gathering hosts a pizza get-together to commend their main goal.

Production

Preparation ran from August 23 until August 31, 2018. Shooting ran from September 4 until September 14, 2018.

Trivia

• This is the last episode of Season 4 that Ray is in his A.T.O.M. suit.
• The episode's title is a play on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel Tender Is the Night.
  • It may also be a pun referring to Nate's retirement from serving with the Legends as the superhero Steel.
• Sara asks Hank if he ever got hit by a girl, a reference to Back to the Future (1985), in which Biff (who, like Hank, is portrayed by Tom Wilson) gets smacked by Lorraine McFly.
• Gideon gets a new look in this episode.
• During the American accent lesson on the Waverider's bridge, a mask worn by the female DC superhero Katana can be seen on the shelf behind Constantine.
• Mona refers to Ray and Nora as her generation's Rachel and Ross, a reference to Friends.
• When the team is talking about a lute Constantine mentions the artist Sting. In John Constantine's first appearances in the pages of Swamp Thing his look was based on Sting as per writer Alan Moore's request.
• As of this episode, the only characters from the first two seasons who are still on the Waverider are Sara Lance, Ray Palmer, Mick Rory, and Gideon.
  • Rip Hunter, Leonard Snart, Carter Hall, and Martin Stein are all deceased.
  • Kendra Saunders, Scythian Torvil, Jefferson Jackson, Amaya Jiwe, and now Nate Heywood have all retired from the Legends.
  • However, Nate will most likely remain a series regular as an agent of the Time Bureau.
• As of this episode, there are officially no meta-human members of the Legends, due to Nate's leave of absence becoming his retirement.
• This episode features many references to older episodes:
  • The death of Henry Heywood in "Moonshot".
  • Rip's sacrifice in "The Good, The Bad and The Cuddly".
  • Ava finding out she is a clone from the future in "I, Ava" and her brief experience of childhood in "Wet Hot American Bummer".
  • Nora's start of her own darkness in "Daddy Darhkest".
  • Nate talking about "that heart of yours" to Ray, which is a parallel to "No Country for Old Dads".
  • Nate's goodbye is similar to that of Jax in "Beebo the God of War", with both revealing their retirement to Sara, hugging her goodbye, receiving a surprise dinner, giving a speech about their growth aboard the Waverider, and finishing with a toast.
• This is the 14th episode in the Arrowverse and the fourth episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow to be named after a character in a civilian sense, after "Sara", "The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak", "Who is Harrison Wells?", "My Name Is Oliver Queen", "Alex", "Zari", "When Harry Met Harry...", "Run, Iris, Run", "I, Ava", "Schott Through the Heart", "Harry and the Harrisons", "Nora" and "The Virgin Gary".

Goofs

• At one point during the pizza party, Nate is holding beer in his right hand and rubbing Ray's shoulder with his left, but the camera returns to him a second later with these actions switched.
• Hank Heywood claims that the Legends have spent $1.7 million on historical costumes. However, previous seasons have shown that the Waverider creates both historical clothes and equipment for the crew for free using Gideon's programming.
  • He also made a similar complaint about the Legends' food supply, which is actually provided by Gideon as well.
  • The only situations that seem likely is that he was somehow misinformed about the Legends' actions, or that Gideon creates them out of some unknown material, like a 3D printer, which means the process costs money.
