The Flash: Season Zero, also known as The Flash: Zero Year, is a comic book series set between episodes from the first season of The Flash. It ran from September 8, 2014 until July 27, 2015, releasing every fortnight. The first printed collection of the comics was released on October 1, 2014.

The series is co-written by Brooke Eikmeier and Katherine Walczak with art by Phil Hester and Eric Gapstur. The series is said to have a lighter, more fantastical feel than the show, including outlandish and "costume-y" characters.

Synopsis

An all-new digital first series from the world of the highly anticipated new TV show The Flash! Follow the adventures of Barry Allen as he struggles to balance his job as a police crime scene investigator, his unrequited crush on Iris West (who also happens to be his boss' daughter) and his new life as Central City's guardian angel! Non-canon chapters

• 22 chapters have been made non-canon in the shared multiverse; chapters 1-18, and 21-24.
• In the first season of The Flash, the "All Star Team Up" episode, Felicity Smoak addresses Bug-Eyed Bandit as her nemesis and then explicitly states she’s never had a nemesis before, contradicting the existence of the "Felicity’s nemesis" character that serves as main antagonist during the "Smoak Signals" chapters of The Flash: Season Zero. In conclusion, Smoak Signals #9 and Smoak Signals #10 are non-canon.
• In the first season of The Flash, the "Rogue Air" episode, all the prisoners of the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator are all listed, accounted for, and evacuated, only to end up escaping during transport. No appearance or mention or reference to any of the circus meta-humans from the first eight chapters of The Flash: Season Zero is made, and they were locked up in the Particle Accelerator. Likewise for Doctor Wangari Hollowell from the final two chapters, whose codename "Melting Point" was later used on the show for another, entirely different character, Matthew Kim. In conclusion, Hollowell and the circus metahumans are non-canon.
• In the second season of The Flash, the "King Shark" episode, Shay Lamden of Earth-1 is dead, and in The Flash: Season Zero, he is alive and he became King Shark. Consequently, all chapters dealing with King Shark (chapters 11 to 18) are non-canon. In conclusion, the Shay Lamden from TV series is canon, while Shay Lamden from The Flash: Season Zero is non-canon.
• In the first season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, the "Marooned" episode, Leonard Snart explains to Sara Lance that the first time when he meets Mick Rory, Rory helped Snart from getting bullied. But in The Flash: Season Zero comics, Snart meets Rory when he wanted a good partner. Consequently, these chapters dealing with Snart meets Rory when he wanted a good partner are non-canon. In conclusion, "Of Fire and Ice" and "Of Ice and Fire" chapters are non-canon in the shared multiverse.
