"The Good, The Bad and The Cuddly" is the eighteenth and final episode of the third season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and the fifty-first episode overall. It aired on April 9, 2018.

Synopsis

The Legends' plan to vanquish Mallus by using the totems doesn't go as planned, forcing Rip to improvise. The team finds itself regrouping in the Wild West where they run into their old pal Jonah Hex. Sara leaves Ray in charge of watching Damien Darhk, while she comes up with a new plan. Meanwhile, Amaya is determined to find a way to use the totems to destroy Mallus.[src]

Plot

"The Good, The Bad, and The Cuddly" begins following last week's scene as the Legends and Damien keep on facing Mallus. The totem bearers have a go at utilizing their freshly discovered forces against the evil presence without any result.

Rip's talking with Gideon on the Waverider about approaches to vanquish Mallus, and he takes a section from the ship. As he leaves, Gideon says that she's going to miss Rip.

The Legends load up the ship as Rip goes out to face Mallus. Rip takes the part he took from the ship — which is revealed as the Waverider's time drive — and he intends to utilize it against Mallus.

Sara brings Rip over their comm framework and Rip says goodbye to the group. He makes reference to that it's an ideal opportunity to see his wife and youngster once more. The time drive detonates, which wipes both Rip and Mallus from the current time.

The Legends are sharing beverages on the Waverider in memory of Rip. Sara says that Rip gave his life so the team could take the totems to a period wherein Mallus could always be unable to discover them. Sara suggests that they hide the totems in Salvation, South Dakota.

Damien's being held in a power field on the Waverider. Sara approaches him, and as opposed to killing him, she reveals to him she's going to keep him alive with the goal that he can endure the remainder of his days realizing he was the cause behind the passing of Nora, his little girl.

Ray enters his labs and reveals to Damien that he's going to chip away at something "stupid" that could bring Nora back.

The Legends venture out back to the Old West, where they start inspecting the whiskey at the neighborhood cantina. In the cantina, the team runs into Jonah Hex. The team's talking when they start hearing shots outside.

They go outside to discover what's happening, and they see individuals from various eras they've visited this season including Julius Caesar and Blackbeard riding through town on ponies.

The team discovers that Mallus has sent them to assemble the totems for his sake. Sara orders Gideon to put the Waverider on lockdown.

Ray and Damien are boarding the jumpship when they're caught by Nate. Nate approaches them and asks what they're doing, and Ray cannot explain. Rather, he punches Nate in the face, diverting him sufficiently long to enter the ship and depart.

Amaya's doing her Lyoga root vision quest trying to perceive how the main totem bearers utilized the totems against Mallus. Nate strolls in and joins her. They discover that the totems must be combined.

Zari's chipping away at programming in her room on the Waverider when she's drawn closer by Jonah Hex. The two visit about the totems and sending a signal for allies.

On the bridge, Amaya persuades Sara to let the team rehash the procedure she saw the first totem bearers do previously. The team assembles around outside to start the ritual. They have a go at making a being made of light that could bring down Mallus, yet they incidentally make a beast like being that Mick rushes to mercy kill.

All of a sudden, Ava appears with Jax, Kuasa, and Helen of Troy to support the Legends.

Ray and Damien come back to Zambesi directly before Nora transforms into Mallus.

The Legends, alongside their new partners, travel through Salvation playing make up for lost time.

Ray and Damien approach Nora and give thumping her a shot. Their punches don't phase Nora, who's changing into Mallus, so Damien pulls out Ray's nanite gun and shoots Nora. Mallus — in smoke form — exits Nora's body and possesses Damien. Damien advises Ray and Nora to run and get into an alternate time.

The team is at the cantina, and we discover Jax is currently hitched with a child. It's been five years since they've seen him last.

Ray returns to the Waverider and takes Nora into the medbay straight, offering her the antidote to the previous nanite shot. She awakens, upset that her dad had her spot as Mallus' physical body.

Ray and Nora discover the Legends in the cantina and warn them that Damien has now been "Mallussed."

Caesar, Blackbeard, and the Vikings come back to Salvation to recover the totems from the Legends.

Sara exits the cantina to defy the three armies and advises them that she's changed her terms on giving the totems over. She's immediately protected by Ava riding a horse, and the pair lead the advancing armies into a trap by the Legends.

Eventually, the Legends can take out the three armies, yet the entirety of the troopers are abruptly revived. The battling proceeds until the troopers kneel immediately; Mallus has shown up in the Old West.

The Legends who wear the totems enter the cantina to take a stab at the ritual they tried previously. This time the ceremony works, and the Legends can summon a kaiju-sized Beebo to take on Mallus.

Beebo and Mallus keep battling until Beebo in the end body slams Mallus, executing him.

The Legends chip away at wiping the memories of the entirety of Salvation's inhabitants as they start saying goodbye to those companions who returned to support them. The team chooses to give Kuasa the entirety of the totems.

Before the team leaves, Jonah gives Zari his hat. Ray gives Nora her dad's time stone before she's brought away to prison at the Time Bureau.

Amaya's conversing with Sara and Zari when she reveals she anticipates leaving the group, needing to come back to Zambesi. Her and Nate venture out back to 1942 and say goodbye to one another.

The team chooses to travel to Aruba. They're taking in the rays when they're drawn closer by John Constantine, who has the cut off top of a mythical serpent. He informs the group that when they let released Mallus, the time demon wasn't the only thing that "got out."

Trivia

• The title references the 1966 film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, a film which, like the majority of this episode, is set in the Old West.
• The respective emblems when the title card is shown don't appear at the beginning, mostly due to Rip's death.
• Rip's flashbacks while going to confront Mallus are from the episodes "Moonshot", "Out of Time", and "Legendary", respectively​​.
• It's revealed the correct pronunciation of Mallus' name is "Malice".
• While intoxicated, Nate describes what the original Totem bearers did as "They beat him with the Care Bear stare!" and compares the combining of powers into a new being like Voltron.
• When the Legends use the totems to create an entity to fight Mallus, Sara advises to think of something pure and thanks to what Nate came up with, they end up forming a giant Beebo doll. This may be a reference to the Stay Puft marshmallow man from the Ghostbusters franchise, where the titular team is told that the destructor would come, taking a form chosen by the group. Three of the four present don't choose anything, but the fourth member of the team tries to think of something harmless and ends up summoning a giant Stay Puft marshmallow man.
  • The creation of the giant Beebo could also be an homage to the climax in The Muppet Movie when a giant-sized animal burst through the roof of a western saloon.
• Zari says Gary's blonde wig is "very presidential," referring to Donald Trump, the president of the United States at the time.
• If one listens closely while Nate is attacking the jump ship, he yells, "Damn it, Ray!" in the exact same voice as in "Camelot/3000".
• Mick and the rest of the Legends relaxing in Aruba is a reference to the first episode of the season, "Aruba-Con".
• Zari notes that she nearly gets killed with the Legends each week, making it a slight fourth-wall joke on the fact that DC's Legends of Tomorrow​​ airs once a week.
• Ray is the only member of the Legends who does not fight Mallus in the final battle. However, he did wield the Water Totem when the team tried using all of the totems against Mallus at once earlier in the episode.
• When Jonah detonates some dynamite against Mallus' army, the Wilhelm Scream can be heard.
• Similar to how Martin Stein's grandson was named after Jax's predecessor (Ronnie Raymond), Jax named his daughter Martina after Stein.
• After Mick punches Julius Caesar in the face, he quips, "That's a Roman nose." This is an archaic term referring to a prominent or hooked nose.
• This episode marks the last appearance of Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West) in the show as a series regular, as he doesn't return for Season 4.
• This episode marks the final appearances of Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter.
• This episode marks the last appearance of Jes Macallan (Ava Sharpe) and Courtney Ford (Nora Darhk) in the recurring cast, as they were promoted to series regulars for the next season.
• Mick references when Rip recruited them including Snart, Professor Martin Stein, and "those stupid hawk flying chicken people" a reference to Kendra Saunders and Carter Hall who were both on the first season.

Goofs

• This episode and the last episode, "Guest Starring John Noble" suggest that Donald Trump succeeds Barack Obama as president of the United States in the same way as in reality. However, as of the Invasion!​​ crossover, Susan Brayden is president in of the United States on Earth-1.
  • It is possible that Trump tried and failed to become president.
• Nate notes that Jax is wearing a wedding ring, but in the shot when Jax arrives and the next, he is wearing thick leather gloves.
• The time drive was taken from the Waverider by Rip and destroyed in his confrontation with Mallus. It was then replaced on the Waverider by the one from the jump ship. Thus, it's impossible for Ray and Damien to use the jump ship to time jump to Zambesi in 1992 and the other Legends to also use it to time jump to Salvation in 1874.
