"This is a paradigm shift. Aliens are among us. And for the rest of human history, there will only ever be "before Superman" and "after". I am protecting mankind from an extinction event. And if this pearl-clutching jury of my... peers... wants to put me behind bars for it, they are welcome to try. But know this. I will always have my thumb on the scales."
Lex Luthor at his trial

"The House of L" is the sixteenth episode of the fourth season of Supergirl, and the eighty-first episode overall. It aired on March 24, 2019.

Synopsis

Trivia

  • This is the first episode of the series to not feature Jesse Rath (Querl Dox) after being promoted to a series regular.
  • When Lex leaves prison, he leaves a hologram of himself, just like it was done in Superman II.
  • Lex says he learned to play chess from Anatoly Karpov a reference to the Russian chess grandmaster and former World Champion. He was the official world champion from 1975 to 1985 when he was defeated by Garry Kasparov.
  • Lex holding up the giant golden globe is similar to Atlas who in Greek mythology was condemned to hold up the celestial heavens for eternity after the Titanomachy.
  • The Supergirl double has the name "Linda Lee" while working at the bar. Linda Lee was one of Supergirl's secret identities in DC comics.
  • The title is a play on the House of El, Kara and Clark's biological family on Krypton.
  • In the final scene, the Supergirl double is wearing a costume identical to the one Superman wore in the Elseworlds story "Red Son". The storyline is similar also. In Red Son, Kal-El's ship landed in Russia and he was raised by the Soviet government.
  • Lex Luthor knows Kara Danvers is Supergirl.
  • A deleted flashback scene featuring Lex would eventually be used in "Confidence Women".
