"You know, you should be thanking me, Captain. The criminals in this world, they have free rein, and they go too many times unpunished. That's on you and your peers. But soon... I will have eyes and ears everywhere. I will be the judge, jury, and executioner! Welcome to the dawn of true justice, Captain. Welcome to the era of the Red Death."

Trivia[]

  • The episode title is a play on Edgar Allan Poe's 1842 short story "The Masque of the Red Death".
  • Iris states she was supposed to become pregnant in three more months, placing this episode in February 2023.
  • Khione appears to have powers related to life; seeing as she revitalized Mark and sensed the baby in Iris.
  • Red Death sentinels

    The sentinels of Red Death.

Red Death uses copies of her armor to take over, similar to how Batman cloned himself in "Return of the Caped Crusaders" after being turned evil and seeing how incompetent the GCPD was.
  • Red Death announcing that she will be "judge, jury and executioner" is a reference to August Heart, the latter claiming that he became "judge, jury and executioner" as he decided to become Godspeed in order to find his brother's killer. Adrian Chase/Prometheus used that same line in the Season 5 Arrow episode "Kapiushon" where while he was torturing Oliver, he explains why he named himself Prometheus because in mythology, Prometheus challenged the omnipotence of the gods. Adrian believed that like Oliver Queen, the gods played judge, jury, and executioner, but Prometheus took away their power.
  • Armageddon (event)

    A still of the Armageddon.

A shot of the Armageddon is strongly implied or reused during Red Death's rule, especially when a viewer looks at the burning car.[1]
  • During the final fight scene, a truck is shown with the word "Sickada". This is a reference to a neighborhood band mentioned in Season 5 episode "Memorabilia".
    • This may also be a callback to the same episode where it is noted that Cicada [II] killed more people than both Zoom and the Red Death.
  • When Ryan Wilder/Batwoman asks if Central City's always filled with metas and bizarre events, the Rogue Squad all answered in unison that it's just another Wednesday; referencing the fact that episodes of the ninth season air on Wednesday nights.
    • The season premiere, "Wednesday Ever After", also focused on Barry and Iris trapped in a time loop, repeating the same Wednesday.
  • No explanation is given as to why Batwoman has been missing the entire time Red Death was active.
  • This is Grodd's first appearance since "Grodd Friended Me", backed up by him mentioning it has been three years since his last encounter with Flash.
  • Barry using a lightning shield and Red Death swinging on a lightning rope during their fight could be a reference to when Captain America and Spider-Man faced off in “Captain America: Civil War”.
  • Joe, Cecile and Jenna are moving out to the country; leaving the West house to Barry and Iris. As Joe feels there's no more need to be in Central City, having done his part in raising its heroes and working as a cop.
