Synopsis

When DeVoe assaults an A.R.G.U.S. facility to complete his Enlightenment Machine, Barry realizes the only way he can stop him is if he allows Cisco and Caitlin to accompany him into the facility. Still shaken by Ralph's death, Barry isn't sure he wants to risk any more of his friends' lives and considers taking on DeVoe solo.

Trivia

• Diggle's extreme susceptibility to motion sickness is once again witnessed, with Caitlin and Cisco preparing a trash can for his inevitable bout of vomiting following Barry superspeeding him into S.T.A.R. Labs.
• Cisco likens DeVoe to the Legion of Doom, suggesting they send the "Super Friends" to defeat him. The "Super Friends" typically refers to the Justice League of America, the name originating from the TV series of the same name. In that series, the Legion of Doom were also an enemy of the Super Friends.
• When the delivery man delivers Joe and Cecille's food, he goes to compliment the house. Joe suggests the phrase "bitchin'", a callback to the season premiere in which the team decodes a message from an insane Barry that seemingly says "this house is bitchin'".
• Barry says he checked Black-Hawk Island. In the comics the Black-Hawk Island is Hawkman's hideout.
• In this episode it's revealed that Killer Frost has been a part of Caitlin since childhood, meaning she didn't get her powers from the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator explosion.
• When DeVoe, (disguised as John Diggle) at the A.R.G.U.S. facility where Neil Boreman is being held, "Diggle" asks about an eye scan, and the guard explains that the Central City branch had trouble with a transmogrifier at the same time the previous year, so they're taking a DNA sample as part of security instead. This a nod to "Infantino Street", the penultimate episode of season 3, when Barry used H.R. Wells's facial transmogrifier to impersonate Lyla Michaels in order to break into the A.R.G.U.S. facility in Central City where an alien power source was being held. Lyla wouldn't let Barry have the energy source, so he decided to steal it with help from Leonard Snart, as Iris's life was at stake, and he needed the energy source to try to save her.
