The Thinking Cap is a device conceptualized by Clifford DeVoe and built by Marlize DeVoe to help make the former smarter.

History

Wishing to enlighten his students' minds, but unable to execute his plan, Clifford DeVoe designed the concept for a piece of technology he described as his "thinking cap", which would assist a human to use the full capacity of their brain. He requested that his wife, Marlize, create it for him.

On the night of January 7, 2013, Clifford and Marlize attended the switching on of the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator, expecting it to explode, hoping to use the excess energy to power their device, as it would require an exponential amount of it. As the accelerator exploded, Clifford stood in the rain, letting bolts of lightning strike his helmet. Coupled with the release of dark matter from the particle accelerator's explosion, Clifford was transformed into a meta-human and developed highly enhanced intelligence, due to the introduction of the Thinking Cap.

• In the DC comics, the Thinking Cap was the main source of the Thinker's abilities, which included telekinesis and mind control.
