"So you're Savitar... I hear you're about to have a really bad day. Good."
—Tracy to Savitar[src]

Tracy Brand is a former student of Central City University's theoretical physics program and an ally of Team Flash. She was instrumental in locking away the speedster Savitar in the Speed Force in a possible future.

Biography[]

Original multiverse[]

Early studies[]

Tracy received a Bachelor of Science in Biophysics and Geophysics in 2008. In 2012, she received a Master of Science in Applied Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 2014, Tracy published a work entitled Metamaterial hyper lens demonstration of propagation without diffraction in the American Journal of Physics. In 2017, she also published a work entitled Controlled double-slit electron diffraction as applied to the physics of badminton in New J. Physics.[1]

Helping Team Flash[]

As of 2017, Tracy studied at Central City University in their theoretical physics program, researching extra-dimensional energy. After failing her dissertation and being made to believe her research a waste of time and resources, Tracy burned all of her work, deciding to take up a job at Big Belly Burger instead. She was stopped by Cisco Ramon, Barry Allen and H.R. Wells, who attempted to assure her that her work was worth its effort, though she couldn't believe it. They were suddenly interrupted by Killer Frost, who was looking to Tracy due to her potential in the future. They were able to get Tracy out of there, before Caitlin retreated. She went straight to the police station, where she described her attacker to a sketch artist. Barry and Detective Joe West attempted to stop her leaving, wanting to utilize her future potential, but she simply wanted to leave.

That night, she tried to get a coffee at CC Jitters. She didn't have any money, so H.R. bought her one. They began talking, specifically about her research on extra-dimensional energy, and how she believed there to be some sort of "Speed Force" that speedsters tapped into. Their conversation was cut short by the arrival of Killer Frost. She shot an ice pick at Tracy, but it was caught by The Flash. Tracy was taken back to S.T.A.R. Labs, where Team Flash explained her importance, revealing how in some future she would be the one to design a prison for the speedster Savitar. Intimidated by their expectations, Tracy went to leave S.T.A.R. Labs, but was intercepted by H.R. He attempted to calm her down and convince her to stay, but she left nonetheless, initially unbeknownst to him. She went to a statue of the historical polymath Galileo. H.R. was able to track her down, taking with him the same kind of coffee she'd drunk before. Tracy explained her feelings of intimidation, but H.R. assured her that he fully believed in her, convincing her to return to S.T.A.R. Labs. Once there, they decided to use Tracy as bait after a friend was taken by Killer Frost. Tracy watched on as Killer Frost and Vibe fought, the latter winning and taking some blood, before her body was snatched by Savitar. After returning to S.T.A.R. Labs, Tracy and H.R. shared another coffee. She spoke of her hypothesis that Savitar emitted too much lightning to contain, hence the use of his suit, thus believing it possible to build a device to harness the power, effectively imprisoning Savitar.[1]

Her Speed Force bazooka fails to trap Savitar, who kills "Iris". It turns out that the dead one was H.R. posing as Iris and she gets very sad after seeing H.R.'s death. In S.T.A.R. Labs, she learns that Savitar would be erased from existence and when the team suggest to find a way to rid Savitar from his disappearance, Tracy is unwilling to help. She claims that he doesn't deserve a happy ending after he stole her happy ending. Harry is sent to convince her to help out with saving Savitar. Harry presents to her, encourages her to help the team in honor to H.R. and acknowledges H.R.'s sacrifice. The discussion is later rendered moot when Savitar puts a bomb on S.T.A.R. Labs.[2]

After Savitar's defeat, Tracy left Team Flash, but remained a consultant scientist for the team. She helped Cisco to find a way to release Barry from the Speed Force.[3]

Neil Borman was sent to Tracy's laboratory so she could control his condition.[4] However, after Clifford DeVoe got a hold of all of the other bus meta-humans, Team Flash decided to take Neil from Tracy's lab, transferring him into A.R.G.U.S. protective custody.[5]

Anti-Monitor Crisis[]

During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, Tracy, as well as everyone in the multiverse except for the seven Paragons, was killed in an antimatter wave by the Anti-Monitor on December 10, 2019,[6] only to be restored a month later, after the Paragons and the Spectre created a new universe.[7]

New multiverse[]

During the investigation into Frost, Cecile Horton recounted her attacking Tracy multiple times. These incidents were some of the charges brought against Frost. It is unknown how this incident was reported as in the original multiverse, Tracy was sworn to silence but this may have changed.[8]

Possible future[]

In 2018, Tracy received the Angert Fellow in London. In 2019, she was the recipient of a Stanton Scholarship and also gained a doctorate in theoretical physics from Central City University. Tracy also published a work entitled Low-dimensional systems and nanostructures in the Journal of Luminescence.

In 2020, Tracy managed to figure out the technology to trap Savitar in the Speed Force.[9] She also published a work entitled Wear resistant super-hard multilayer transition metal nitride coatings and the synthesis of ITO nanoparticles at below freezing temperatures in the American Journal of Physics.

In 2021, Tracy received a Nobel Prize in physics. At some unknown point between 2017 and 2024, she also received a Copley Medal and a presidential commendation.[1]

Personality[]

Tracy is intelligent, talkative and keen. Due to her achievements in many science fields she is an outstanding genius, even though she fails some of her research. Thinking her work is pointless, she decides to quit the college campus by burning all of her work and thinking about working at Big Belly Burger.

Tracy also has developed feelings for H.R., right until he died at the hands of Savitar. As a result, she holds a grudge against Savitar, refusing to prevent the paradox from catching him and believing that he deserves it for murdering H.R.

Abilities[]

  • Genius-level intellect/Master physicist/Scientist: Tracy is a brilliant woman, possessing numerous accolades in the present and near future. Team Flash approached her about her impressive research and hypotheses, including her inquiry into the nature of extra-dimensional energy, her work on relativistic quantum mechanics and its application to interspatial theory to manipulate matter on a subatomic level. Cisco Ramon (through H.R. Wells) mentioned her ideas of wave-particle duality, quantization of energy, and her time-symmetric formulation of quantum theory and how the boundary conditions lead to principle causality and the psychological arrow of time. She successfully deduced the existence of the Speed Force (with the assistance of H.R. Wells) as well as the functioning of Savitar's armor and speed. Two exceptions of her intelligence are failing her university dissertation and the malfunctioning of the Speed Force bazooka.
