Hmmm... Prequel story about a younger version of a Kryptonian hero who is destined to become a superhero. Where have i saw that before? Oh wait, it was when i took a bet to watch all ten seasons of Smallville and won the bet, but suffered. This episode luckily will not be as bad as that experience.

This one starts with a very sad tone going into it. Both our broken heroes, Kara and Alex, going back to Midvale to deal with their current issues. Eliza consults Kara about her problems of closing off, being a pretty good mom about it. There is a reason she used to be Supergirl and this is why. +1

They then have a pretty good transition from adult Kara and Alex to them as teenagers. Cue the flashbacks yall. Cause this is the entire episode. One big flashback. (+1) Now the young actresses playing the younger Kara and Alex do their parts pretty good. However i find there is a little less hope in the one playing Kara, and a little bit too much sass for the character. Just a little strange. (Plus i miss Malina Weissman -1)

At school, the history teacher adresses Kara and Alex as Ms. Danvers. However considering both come from the same family, that is kinda a jerk move. At that point you call them by their first name or use some kind of distinction between the two. -1

Superman being referenced is a pretty good detail to have. Showing how things are going on in his world and all. +1

A brilliant little piece of this episode is Kara learning to control her strength and power when around others. Something she still doesn't even fully master as of Season 1 of the show. (+1) We then meet Kenny Li, Kara's best and only good love interest the show has given her. Along with being an old Superman ally in comics so they work it with their DC universe. It works for Kara to be with someone who is into space travel. Sadly it was short lived. +1

So Kenny Li is dead. A moment of silence for our dearly departed looker of the stars.

...

Okay, i am good. Anyway, Kara goes investigating this case of Kenny's death. Leading to some foreshadowing of the obvious real killer, the Sherrif. Kinda a terrible way to do it though since we barely know this guy at all besides that he clearly is suspicious. -1

2/10

Kara clearly doesn't have an understanding of her powers as of now. So far, we see her able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, fly short distances, and run as fast as a speeding train. Along with minor bursts of heat vision, and night vision slowly turning into X-Ray Vision. (The worst power to give to a teenager tho) So i am glad that there is a clear progression and not just a complete mastery of them. +1

Kara gets the evidence needed to find whoever killed Kenny with her powers, but Alex can't get anything off of it. So Kara recommends they get help from Clark's high school friend Chloe. Little does Kara know, Chloe is just terrible. Seriously, she was like if Mon-El had Winn's skillset, and then in the later seasons of that show was basically a villain, but every main character was okay with it. Then the actress playing Chloe Sullivan got into a sex cult. So she hardly deserves this reference or being a part of the major plotline. -2

Alex goes on to the lead found on the laptop. This one being on the pedophile teacher Mr. Bernard who is that teacher who was kinda a jerk earlier to both Alex and Kara. Kinda saw that coming a little. Someone had to fill the school cliches beyond bully and nerd. Anyway, they really handled the topic of rape well. Probably the only topic related to sex that they actually handled well on Supergirl. +2 (Seriously though guys, leave it to Jessica Jones most times)

We then get a little bit of a red herring in the form of Mr. Bernard in which the show has him act like he did it, but really he didn't. It doesn't really go over well. After all, why would the pedophile who was recently discovered try to increase his criminal charges to murder when he can get off scott free now? So it is obvious it isn't him. -1

2/10... again.

Kara is discovered using her abilities to solve this case by Eliza. So she calls in help from an F.B.I agent named Noel Neill. She helps Kara deal with the grief of losing Krypton and wishing to be a hero. However really, this agent was J'onn the whole time. +2 (I knew it! Erica Durance couldn't possibly be that good without David Harewood as a coach)

They finally find out who the real killer is and it isn't much of a reveal as much as it is just delaying the inevitable, however Kara's epic use of her early power set really makes for a cool entrance when she takes down the Sherrif. Alex hyping it up was just the icing on the cake. +1

Alex and Kara work out their differences and that is how they became the good sisters they are to each other. Then after the switch to present day, the current Kara and Alex finally work out their differences about their losses and go home completely N'Sync. (See what i did there? +1)

Episode gets a 6/10 and with flashbacks aplenty, i got to remember back to when my bonus rounds actually meant something.

Noel Neill being the name of J'onn's cover was good since Erica Durance was his disguise and she played Lois Lane on Smallville (one of the only good things on that show) Noel Neill however is the name of the actress who played Lois in the original Superman serials. +1

Alex Danvers foreshadowing her sense of justice that she gets later on in life as an agent of the D.E.O in the flashbacks. +2

Kenny Li being dead. Seriously guys you fixed the love interest problem, and then you killed him! Why? -1

8/10 is the final score. Next time this entire episode's grief plot is going to be undone cause Mon-El is back and brought some company.
